X-Men isn't a series for everyone. My nephews who range in ages 5-13 don't really like X-Men compared to Thor, Cap, Hulk etc. those movies appeal more to kids. Their stories are really about the big hero saving the world. X-Men isn't like that it's sci fi but their issues are grounded in reality and the stories are very complex. Which is why kids and a lot of people have just never stuck to it like other marvel movies. This is both positive and negative. So who knows how this will affect DoFP especially due to the complicated plot. It's sad that people need to be spoon fed things.

IM and Cap 2 dealt with issues grounded in reality. No less realistic than DOFP will be.

Yes it is. That's why they make and sell so much and have dozens of books being released every month.

Not true at all. Alot of this depends on what you grow up with. In the 90s and early 00s The Avengers couldn't touch X-Men. Every kid growing up was obsessed with TAS, the films, games and comics. Look at X3's box office. That's alot of dough, and no 3D to top it off. X-Men had a few ****** movies since 06 and is now getting back. You can't release a few mixed to badly received films and expect to stay on top. Spideys learning that right now.

Avengers are putting out numerous movies and are currently very prominent in todays pop culture. Kids still love the heck out of all these characters. This is definitely mainstream blockbuster stortelling, not rocket science or an abstract indie film where the themes and "Im smarter then you" attitude are what's turning the majority of people off.

I generally think the X-Movies are too adult for kids. There's not as much action as other Superheroes and not as much "saving people", they feel more like drama movies overall imo

So does Batman.

Why do you think we can't get an R Wolverine or Deadpool? They can't risk losing the family audience, too many younger fans. Jackman said it himself.

Yea. But at least we get unrated cuts  blood and guts in The Wolverine! Good enough for me.

Character & story is more important than blood, nudity and F bombs. I never care to see an R Wolverine, and I'm a diehard.

The whole Coin passing through Shaws head in FC really shocked me. One of the most violent things I've ever seen in a pg-13. Sure there's isn't a lot of blood, but my god that's brutal haha.

I think the X-Men movies will appeal more to kids if they have the same tone/pop as the X-Men cartoons or at least the comic-books. I mean, I liked X-Men even before the movies came in, and thats because of the 90s animated series and videogames.

Which was a great move cause they knew fans wanted a more violent take and they could also hold their rating.

Was very impressed they did that.

Of course, but Wolverines is a pretty violent character, that rage and voilence needs to be a part of it. He does shine the best when he's snikt slashing without being censored. It's tough for the films to get around his powers with a pg-13. X2 had issues as well.

I'm all for an R rating, but they have made it work and compromised with extended cuts without it.

I've liked the x-men all my life, and as a matter of fact the first movie made me an even bigger fan due to it's darker tones. it turned me into a diehard fan.

Batman has always been my favorite, and so when the first x-film was about to release, with the adult look, black suits, sophisticated story, it made me an even bigger fan of the X-men. I loved the darker tones and costumes, and still do! I'd like something more colorful now, but as a kid these dark costumes really turned me around. It wasn't just a "kids" thing anymore. When I was a teenager in the early 2000s, that really counted  lol comicbooks and superhero movies were laughed at, the x-men changed that, and changed my life!

Though nothing beats the Saturday morning memories with XTAS.

The black leather costumes in X1 actually turned me off a little, well I was like 10 or 11 when the movie came out and the tone of the film, didn't really feel like X-Men to me.

But flash forward to 2003, X2 came out and I loved it and it made me appreciate X1.

They do deal with issues yes, but there seems to always be a lighter tone to the Marvel/Disney films. Not saying that there aren't some big intense moments but compared to what we have seen in the X-Men series especially Wolverine films and X1 and X2. X-Men has always had more of a dark feel to it. And I meant especially the original two films they were really story, character driven movies that weren't big spectacles which is what we see a lot of now and what DoFP will be but with some great story in there. I feel like Last Stand has felt the most comicy of all the X-Men films due to the story, look, effects etc. X-Men comics ans cartoons do appeal to more people yes, but the movies don't. Which is what I meant to say with my earlier posts. Kids for example and even a lot of adults don't see X-Men as superheroes like they do Hulk, Thor, Iron Man. Obviously because they aren't but they don't hold with bigger audiences. I wish they do.

A lot of the critics are mindless, how is movie being more complex a bad thing?? If you don't get it, don't blame the movie, blame yourself! *sigh*

It would be interesting to see if Lost was a movie what score it would get, might not get 90%+ either due to how complex it is, and some critics just don't get it!

That was such a beautifully cut scene, the tracking of Shaw and Xavier was :hrt:

I love Lost! :hrt: Though it would be quite challenging to do the show in a 2 hour movie format. Too many characters plus the flashbacks are very integral to the story, I don't know how can they squeeze 1 season into 2hr/30 minutes.

Have you noticed how poorly written many of these reviews are?

They spend most of the time telling us about the plot (including spoilers) and so little time reviewing what was on screen (ie acting, cinematography, dialogue, pacing, etc).

I noticed that and I looks like it's becoming a trend.
My local newspaper always explains the whole plot and doesn't really say much about the films (non-)qualities.

The quality of some film reviews are pretty poor in general, sad times for journalism

Not just in the UK. The media is a different thing these days, because of the internet. Standards have fallen!

All most people seem interested in are 'what colour are you' surveys and clips of cats and dogs doing funny stuff.

Yep. Everything is superficial and without too much thought. Media is in a crisis, and people are idiots. Including me.

Very true. Longstanding respected printed publications have standards that make you take them more seriously than guys whose entire reporting careers have taken place on the internet.
