Actually, have any non-superhero comic films received an Oscar? It's probably just a matter of time before the right Vertigo or indie comic is adapted to screen and receives the attention of the Oscar crowd.

yeah... "A History of Violence" got nominated for two Oscars (Best Supporting Actor, Best Adapted Screenplay). And also, "Road to Perdition" was nominated for five Oscars.

YAS! 94% with 52 reviews! Thats just crazy good!

Someone over at imdb.com compiled all the reviews that's come out so far (I suppose these are the reviewers that get posted on RT) and this is what they got:

What a critical smash this movie is!

Would have to recieve 30 consecutive rottens to get below 60% now, safe to say it's not headed that way now

I normally don't say this type of thing but having seen the movie I have a very hard time seeing this drop below 90%, it may even level out at around 95% or higher. I'm going to be very surprised if this gets unexpectedly pounded in the coming days.

Same here.

And 52 reviews are already big indications that it won't drop that much. Plus in metacritic, the score is also solid and higher compare to the other X-Men films.

Are we looking at a dark knight level film in terms of quality JMC?

They're both very different movies so it's not really fair to compare them I think. The execution in this film is great for what it is, but it's not some form of cinematic experience that will live with you for the rest of your life. It's a very good movie in it's own right however. It's wonderfully made and the pacing is pitch perfect for such a convoluted story.

well there are probably a couple of rottens coming. I will be shocked if the New Yorker liked it for instance. They hated TDK and pretty much every comic book movie so far. Lane is very stuff and only likes artsy movies. Then there is Rex Reed but he seems to be behind on his reviews so he might not even review it.

3/5 from another Top Critic, NY Daily News.

Not trying to jinx it but it might be Matthew Kassel that rates it. He has done the last 6.

That would probably be the only way it gets a fresh review there. At least we don't have to worry about that *****e bag Armond White. His reviews were always the worst and sometimes I am not sure if he even watched the movies.

Glad to see it appears to be a return to form for the X-Men!

Two more added, and it's hit 95%

Wow, just wonderful for the franchise and CBM's, hopefully its loved by the fans

Spider-Man is Jealous

I love the X-Men series but this is definitely not the type of series to get Oscar attention outside technical awards. Dark Knight was probably the most likely possibility for a long time and that couldn't even muster a best picture or director nod.

Many of the actors are Oscar quality actors though, if they give a superior performance be it in a drama or X-Men movie it should be counted

If it maintained this rating, it would be the highest rated CBM of all time!

Do you think the somewhat mediocre films in Spider-man and Godzilla might have made DoFP seem better subconciously to some reviewers? Or is that crazy talk?
