Chase is badass. I too don't like Xavin. Can't wait too see what new characters Whedon is gonna throw in the mix

There will be new characters?

When it was announced he would be taking over, Whedon said that he would be adding a new character somewhere down the line.

Oh yay. Was starting to get bored with everyone else who wasn't Victor. Still miss Gert, as well:(

I don't miss Gert. I think it'd be annoying if she came back to life.

I don't want her to come back, which is odd. But I really do miss her.

Well based on Runaways' history and a quote by Molly in the last issue; guess somebody will be dying right before that then.

As long as it's Nico, I don't care. But she won't die. It'll be my fave, Karolina. ;-;

I hope they don't have to kill someone before that happens though. It's already happened twice, and too keep that pattern up, would make things too predictable and lose a bit of the originality of this book.

So it would become New X-Men?

I too would hate it if RUNAWAYS just became too dependant on killing off characters. Especially since they're all pretty good characters to me. Whedon confirmed that he would be adding a new member to the roster and Ryan has already included Nico in released sketches, so she probably lives (along with Molly and Karolina). I'm hoping Chase doesn't bite it.

Speaking of Chase, what's interesting is that we're seeing his "Gert kept me moral" bit in line, yet he's not exactly proud of himself. At the beginning of the issue he claims, "all adults are a little guilty of something" (or words to that effect), and as he is 18 that naturally includes himself. When that kid asked if he was "the devil", he replied with a "maybe". And obviously as he's left Nico alive for now he wants to talk, maybe to talk himself into going through with it. This ties into earlier issues when Chase claimed he'd "repay" Gert for saving his life via CPR in Vol. 1, but on the other hand, there is no way Gert wouldn't be disgusted or stay with him if she learned he sacrificed someone, especially Nico, to revive her. I'm sure someone will mention how he's pretty much "acting no better than our parents" now.

Chase could definately be the "dark horse" of the team after this, something akin to Emma Frost in the X-Men (only without, y'know, being a homewrecker) that Whedon could probably play with. But I agree, RUNAWAYS is too good a book to become a constant "kill-a-thon" every arc or so like NEW X-MEN has become.

Great issue! I'm probably biased though because for once there was a big focus on Victor and Nico.

The scene in Victor's bedroom was good as it started to show us just what is going on between the two. I liked his comment about being a tool and hopefully we'll see him go badass on Chase when he finds out whats happened to Nico.

Nico's dream about her parents was cool as well as her '****' issues are something only hinted at before then.

Even Xavin had some decent dialogue this issue in his conversation with Molly. Something is definatly going to happen to him before BKV leaves.

The end took me by total surprise. Mainly because Nico didn't strike me as being that innocent. I mean Karolina and Molly are probably more innocent then her right?

Can't wait for the next issue. I'd be pissed if BKV actually did kill off Nico though.:cmad:

I imagine the Chase/Victor rivalry will be reawakened. Originally Chase disliked Vic because he was fated to ice his girlfriend, and now the role is reversed.

As for Chase's choice, in terms of religion, Karolina being a lesbian is DEFINATELY "impure" (after all, yes, the strict reading of the Bible does not condone homosexuality, or leaving oxen unpunished for sins, and few religions really condone it, just modern pasters thankfully adapt to the times), plus her being an alien may confuse matters. As for Molly, Chase seems to care about the squirt more than he likes to admit, which was touched on in YA/RUNAWAYS and this issue. Chase may still feel miffed that Nico's random kiss with him back in NY strained his relationship with Gert before she died. Plus, narratively speaking, Chase sacrificing Molly would just be repetitive after the Wilder bit, and Nico is more dramatic.

What I am wondering is, Vaughan has claimed his finale will be a "peak" for the book and while the heat is picking up, I wonder if the Runaways may have a climatic battle against Chase, having them perhaps try to appeal to him emotionally, or a physical battle against the Gibborum? Plus, I wonder if Nico's dream was just that -- a dream. Could her parents have survived? Lord knows Baron Mordo has come back from the dead countless times, and magic has few rules.

I've read through the first digest of the second "season" of Runaways and, you know, kind of disappointed. It's good, there's no denying, but I'm just not feeling the mad love that you people have for the book. So far I'd say vol 2 is off to a better start than vol 1 with me, though, so here's hoping I can view it as a great book and not just a good one.

It kind of sucks that this book hasn't sucked my nuts yet, because I read Y in trades (just read the 7th volume "Paper Dolls" yesterday) and I have some mad love for it, yo. It's my fave Vertigo book ever, dethroning Preacher pretty easily. With Runaways I recognize that it's good but it's like I know it's not BKV's best effort and it kind of irritates me.

I agree that vol. 2 is better than vol. 1 was, IMO.

I also haven't read Y:THE LAST MAN or EX MACHINA so maybe my mind is attuned differently. I just feel that RUNAWAYS has been one of Marvel's best new franchises. And I all mean all new, as in not a branch off of an old one that even YOUNG AVENGERS is guilty of.

Son of a *****(chase) he used the staff of one against her, huh? I love it when BKV brings up little facts in past issues just to bite them in the ass in the future. Anyway, Chase is getting on my nerves.

The latest issue was good but it need more cowboy werewoof action, in my humble opinion.

The art was beautiful. Made me realize that I never want norton on this book again.

Molly voiced something that I've always been confused by- why DOES Xavin insist on looking like a man sometimes instead of being a female all the time? Karolina would like it much more if her "betrothed" was a permanent female.

I gotta agree Alphona's artwork was off the chains

and Xavin answered it perfectly right back... he doesnt because he simply doesnt want to. and shouldnt have to... Karolina is ok with it.. so everyone else should be, you must remember the male form is what HE is use to.. and your going to be or enjoy the form your use to the most

That's part of what I liked about the issue, that Molly/Xavin bit; since this is Vaughan's last arc it's good that he iron out some of the naunces of these characters before he attempts to let them leave the nest without him and this was a key bit. People moaned when Wells in YA/RUNAWAYS didn't have Xavin stay female for long but Vaughan invented that with Xavin, and I felt his answer was understandable. Apparently to Skrulls, gender can change with the same whim as one changes a hat.

I still wonder if that "dream" was just a nightmare or a premonition. Mages are a ***** to get rid off no matter how you kill them. If Geoffry Wilder could return (sort of) via time travel magic, why not Nico's mage parents?

And it does look like Chase's claim to "never use the Staff again" from the "East Coast/West Coast" arc is null and void.
