I'm not sure I would want Marvel-Boy joining the team. Right now he seems set up to be their enemy.

My pet pick for the next Runaway is still Persuasion, the Purple Man's daughter. Sure the team already has an overload of girls, but whatever. The team lacks a psychic and she could fit the role.

And I have noticed that Xavin is more "hostile" in male form. Remember that while he shapeshifts into a girl, gender and all, to please Karolina (a lesbian), that doesn't mean that he isn't truly a male Skrull at heart. Much like you can bleach your roots, but your root color is still your root color.

Has anyone considered that shield may be using some kinda mind control ala weapon x in x2

This was during Baltimore Con 2006, after Vaughan announced that RUNAWAYS #24 would be the last for him and Alphona.

I discuss a few potential pro's and con's in other topics that I don't feel like reposting here. The facts of the matter are, BKV's choice to leave the book is reportedly his own, he picked his successor, and both he and Whedon seem to admire the other's work (Vaughan in other sites claimed that Whedon's work on BUFFY and ANGEL inspired his own work, and Whedon has said a few times that RUNAWAYS is one of his favorite comics). As Whedon has enough namepower to pull the book out of the Bottom 90 of the Top 100 and into at least the Top 50 or better, this is naturally a potentual win for Matvel. Despite some of my reservations about Whedon, out of a pool of a half dozen "A-List" writers one could put on RUNAWAYS, he'd probably be the best pick.

Oh, and Ryan's art rocks. He'll be as solid as Norton is now.

Heh, I literally saw that page and thought, "I can just see ColossalSpoons crossing his fingers and begging for poor Molly to get squished to death".

Look, Marvel doesn't kill pre-teen children. They had their chance with Nathanial Summers in the 80's and we all saw how that went. Plus, one of the few wishes Vaughan made to his successor on the title (who turned out to be Joss Whedon) was "not to kill off Molly".

I like the characters so I'm not a fan of axing off members every 12 issues or so. I'm not as bloodthirsty as some fans are (the issue where Gert died saw a mild bump of a few thousand readers, for instance). I want to see everyone grow and develop. If characters died so often in the old days as they seem to do nowadays, we'd hardly have a Marvel Universe.

I mean, I get the harshness of the title at times but if someone drops every few issues, they may as well change it to TEEN SUICIDE SQUAD.

I can agree. But I like the continual survival of GOOD characters. Like the rest of the team. Especially Karolina and Rex. However, Molly just reminds me of a stereotype of why I began to dislike another type of fiction. Youngest little cutsey girl is arguably the most powerful, naive at first, she's wiser beyond her years, cut of the cloth. It just feels so overdone to me.

Oh, so she needs protecting now eh? I swear, if she hold up that monster's foot, I'll pull my hair out lol. That would be a feat of strength way out of her league.

And they killed that little ghost boy in X-Men.

Like most super-strength characters, Molly seems strong enough to do whatever it is that the plot requires for her to do, although she often passes out from severe strain. Remember when that Wrecking Crew's boy hit her with the shovel? He was hitting with maybe 7 tons of force and she didn't even wobble. Granted, a foot like that is larger. But the image is without text and we'll see what happens. Any number of Runaways could swoop by and save her.

Molly adheres to some stereotypes, true, but she also serves as some comic relief to pop the angst-balloon at times. Besides, a TRUE stereotype of the "team tanker" is just some huge guy anyway.

She's not my favorite member of the team (Chase is), but I don't have anything against her. As a solo character she may not have much pep but she's not one. And at least she doesn't save the day all the time, as happens with kids a lot in movies.

I wouldn't want a huge guy tanker. And you're right, her strength is called upon for whatever turns. Like the seven ton hit would've set off Ultron, but her punch didn't even affect him. It's kind of plot devicey.

And I will say you're right when she's not always saving the day. But I'm kind of tired of her stereotype. The REST of the Runaways were fresh and new. Each one of them cool and unique. In fact, the stereotype I pull it from is reinforced with her "Japanesey" style of hatware you usually catch her in.

That's true. I'm not denying your points on the whole, they're just not as big a problem for me. Frankly what's been annoying me more is Kitty Pryde turning into a real spotlight hog in ASTONISHING, and I actually LIKE her more than Molly. So, yeah, to me she's not the reason I read Runaways but on the team she serves her role as immature power-pixie well enough for me.

It looks like Victor hasn't gotten a hold of piloting the Frogger yet, as he bonks the monster on the head. Good to see Chase's pilots skills aren't so easy to duplicate.

Speaking of which, it's been a while since Old Lace was really a factor in a fight, and it might be interesting if Chase "operates" her to be a little more aggressive to match his outlook.

Yeah. Plus, I always liked that he was one of the few "normal guys" on a team who really did seem like a normal guy. He wasn't a super-genius, a combat phenom or shot arrows or whatever. His IQ was average at best aside for some quirks for repairs, and he just had some street skills and a switchblade (which he hasn't used for much besides threatening someone). But that doesn't matter because despite all that he keeps on sluggin' and would fight alongside the team in Hell itself.

Reminds me a little of Casey Jones, who naturally is in my avatar 'cause I like 'im.

That's true, but that's besides the point. What I liked about him was that it didn't matter how outmatched he was or what the odds were like, he'd grab his bat and rush to fight with his pals anyway. He was all heart. Sure, he's no genius either, but that doesn't negate his courage. I always figured Chase was simular, why Nico usually had to talk him out of TKO'ing himself by rushing at something with just his fists or something. Naturally we know he has to rejoin the team at some point as "Dead Means Dead" is set before CW (where he's back with the team again, at least for a short while), but I'm curious as to what he does while away.

I like Victor too, moreso than Karolina actually, and he's a newer character. The team needed someone who wasn't as distrusting of adults or who was more "standard heroic" in some ways to balence them out.

Why don't you like Molly? She's the heart and soul of the team...and the comic relief. In my opinion, the book would be kind of boring without her...especially now that we've lost Gert and her well-placed sarcastic comments.
