When is the new runaway out? :)
Jan. 10th.

I also will miss BKV terribly on RUNAWAYS. Whedon has an uphill battle here even if he brings his A-game, which his last arc or two on ASTONISHING sure wasn't.

As for Chase, it is possible that he wants to "force" Nico's aid here to drain someone else's soul. I'm anxious to these final Vaughan issues and yet hope Chase isn't completely villified or axed off.

I like Chase. Dont like his transformation.....

I was trying to agree to your idea. I was too lazy to quote you. :csad:

lol I know. I'm just a little tired, and trying to poke fun.

Trust me, I know you're not sleazly like that Darthphere guy.

I'm too uptight to be sleazy. :o

I mean it's possible Chase wants Nico's help to drain that kid or someone else's soul. If he truly was evil and just wanted to off her he could have just stabbed her and been done with it. Either he wants her help or possible forgiveness. Chase has been conflicted through most of this. His first love, who kept him more on the "straight and narrow" than anyone else in his life, just died. Vaughan claimed that "losing a friend isn't something you forget by next issue" and he's absolutely right. However, I do hope he remembers that teams are run by the history and dynamics of a core set of characters; NEW AVENGERS lacked that harmony and that was part of why it struggled. The more of the "old class" you off, the less they have to draw to. I hope Vaughan doesn't go on the beaten path with Chase.

Like I said, the Runaways have almost always either killed or watched die anyone who betrayed them. There rarely has been forgiveness or reasoning. Nico was willing to almost forgive Alex enough to miss him and want to resurrect him, that may be why Chase is intent on talking to her. He knows he has to do something terrible to revive Gert, and he may want to tell the ONLY Runaway who might, MIGHT understand him vs. just getting angry. It will be interesting to see Victor's reaction. Before Chase gave him crap because of Future Gert and him being friendly with her, and now they are in a reverse role. Molly might also be disappointed.

Chase acts the tough guy, but how much is real? He does have a heart somewhere, we've seen that.

Something eggs me on to believe he's going to be both asking for help, and justification. Only to be turned down in the end. There will be hard feelings, but the team will generally accept him back in (sans Xavin) where they know he simply needs help to get over Gert.

It ties into what I mentioned earlier about "forgiveness". Victor would have all right to not trust Chase again. Xavin naturally is rigid. And Molly might be disappointed. But usually, whenever someone backstabs or infights in their team, either they kill them or they end up dying anyway. That's the pattern. Chase has technically been a part of the team longer than Alex and unlike Alex, didn't just join them to help the Pride (Alex only gathered the kids because he learned two of the familes were going to betray the rest).

A fight to the finish against the Gibborum could be possible too. After all, they're the ones who've embarked Chase on this quest. They've been there since the beginning and it may be possible Vaughan wants to go out with a final battle against them. If Chase, say, refuses, they may not take ceasing to exist lightly. ;)

The Gibborim really don't have much power left, and probably can't appear in the normal realms. I'm going with my angle. But I agree, I hope Chase kind of...you know...lives.

im going to miss BKV but him leaving is a good way for me to save money. With JW jumping on the title im going to drop it off my pull list. If his run is good i'll pick up the trades.Save me some money.

Me too. I mean, every team needs that "black knight" member. Wolverine only milked that angle for 30 years. ;)

Well, Chase would be far more interesting than Wolverine, and it would finally demolish that crappy idea that only adults are corrupt and greedy.

I highly doubt that, dun mention Chase ever again in the same sentence as wolverine. Chase will never be more interesting then wolverine, i like him alot, but he never will be in million years.

Technically, Chase is now 18, age of consent.

Ironically, I always felt that those adults who are corrupt, greedy, and so on are that way because they, like most people in the real world, have grown up, but not matured. Maturity and age are different animals.

Technicalities are for murderers with poor arguments.

Chase is still pretty much a kid.

But really, everybody suffers of greet and corruption.

I wouldn't say EVERYONE is greedy and corrupt. Many lack the oppurtunity. And some are simply mature, honest people. Out of over 6 billion humans on the planet, I'd say maybe...1% of all of them. On a good day.

Yes, I'm a cynic. And yes, Chase is under 21 and still a kid.

And yes, marvelman418, you should be reading RUNAWAYS.

Chase definitely has so much room for development as that type of character too. They've alluded that he has a darker past than we realize as well. Seems like Gertrude's death has just brought that dark side out. I enjoyed comic relief Chase, but this new side of him is far more in-depth and interesting.

Indeed.

Comics Continuum has a 5 page preview, although the last page doesn't load right for me.

That scene between Karolina and Xavin/Nico was great!

I've never been a huge fan of Karolina. The whole 'I wanna die because I'm a lesibian' thing didn't do much for me. Then when she went with an ass like Xavin it didn't really raise my appreciation of her.

However, she came across really well in that preview. Looks like shes still carrying a few feelings for Nico even if I am still rooting for Victor to save the day in the next issue.:woot:

I love Whedon but he has a lot to live up to.

Runaways #23 will arrive in stores on Jan. 10 from Marvel Comics. The issue is written by Brian K. Vaughan, with art by Adiran Alphona and a cover by Jo Chen.

Here's how Marvel describes the issue:

"Live Fast,' part 2 of 3. As a new enemy turns Runaway against Runaway, the teen heroes must risk everything to prevent losing another teammate forever."

Runaways #23 will be 32 pages and will cost $2.99.
