If there's one character in the Marvel Universe who needed to get beat up by a 12-year-old girl - it's Wolverine.

But after that, totally the Punisher.

The only thing that could have made that scene better would have been if she'd kicked him in the balls.

Chase just isn't Chase anymore, somehow, though I think that's as much the artist's fault as anything - who in the hell decided he was a varsity linebacker, all of a damn sudden? Also, Nico really shouldn't be taking this much **** off of anybody.

I think Ryan's Chase is probably truer to the character BKV established than Alphona's, actually. Ryan draws Chase like a kid who exercised and played sports a lot, which we know Chase did thanks to volume 1. I think Alphona just drew Chase so skinny because he draws everyone skinny (except Gert, for obvious reasons).

Runaways #27 will arrive in stores on June 27 from Marvel Comics. The issue is Joss Whedon, with art by Michael Ryan and a cover by Jo Chen.

Here's how Marvel describes the issue:

"the team is taking a giant step backwards... to 1907! So what's in 1907? Tons of new characters! Both friendly and unfriendly faces from Runaways issues past! Action! Love! All this and comedy to boot! Also, meet a new character that will become a Runaway!"

Runaways #27 will be 32 pages and will cost $2.99.

It looks pretty cool, even if naturally Whedon liked "fun dumb Chase" and it is a shame that BKV pretty much abolished that by making him "bad arse". Oh, well, I'm still aboard, and it looks interesting.

I really like the cover. Old Lace being a little blurrier than the others (I wouldn't think a dino could hold still during a photograph) is a neat touch.

Could that girl on the cover maybe be the new Runaway Whedon wanted to add to the team? Victor goes all google-eyed for some girl in the past and brings her back to the future with him.

A bit of a cliche but oh well...

I was just thinking the same thing. Chen's work keeps getting better.

That girl really looks more like Karolina than anything else.

It could honestly just be a nice period-looking picture of Karolina and Victor dancing together as friends all Dickens-style.

Her hair is more strawberry-blonde than Karolina's pure blonde. Plus, I see no bracelet on either of her wrists, yet she's not all tie-dyed and glowy.

They were never really together. BKV set it up in his last issue but Joss has seemingly decided to ignore it and go his own way. Revisiting the lesbian thing with Nico/Karolina and giving Victor a new love interest in the past.

Yeah, I'm a little disappointed by the whole Chase character situation myself. I was kind of liking where Vaughn was taking him...but I guess that wasn't in the plan? Oh well.

Besides that the transition between Vaughn and Whedon has been pretty good. A few more issues will really give us an idea though.
