The Sarah Connor Chronicles

They deserve a new season, is one of the best series on TV, and the cast is very passionate about it, which doesn't happen that often.

Part of an interview of CBR with Brian Austin Green:

What’s the word on season three? Have you heard anything yet?

No. Nobody’s heard anything. I’ve heard a lot of speculation, you know, people saying that it won’t be back but we thought that after our first season. We thought that again after the thirteenth episode of this season going into the back nine. We’ve kind of been the show that’s fought its way through and I don’t think we’re done. I don’t necessarily think that FOX is done with it. They really enjoy the show. It’s just that a show like this has a very specific audience. It’s a really intelligent show and for the people that don’t watch it every week, there’s no possible way they could follow it. Josh doesn’t want to dumb the show down for the people that don’t follow it, just so they can tune in whenever they want and sort of pick up wherever we are in the story. So it’s a tough line, you know, it’s a very unique series that way. I mean, it’s incredibly serialized and incredibly intelligent.

Were you surprised when you found out that you were being killed off in the penultimate episode of the season or were you more surprised to find that you would be returning at the end of the finale?

Josh Friedman and John Worth both sat down with me probably three weeks before that second-to-last script even came out. They said, “Listen, we want to sit down and talk to you.” I said, “Oh this can’t be good news if the two of you are sitting down with me.” They said, “We’re killing Derek.” I said, “Seriously? You’re killing him? Like dead?” “Yeah, like Derek’s dead in the second to last episode,” they said. I was like, “Okay?” Then they said, “We’re bringing him back in the last episode.” Then they told me how and they told me why. They told me what they’re plans were for season three. And at that point I was so excited to do it.

The only thing I wasn’t excited about was showing up on the day to shoot the bit where Derek gets shot. It was an odd feeling. It was an odd feeling sort of across the board. The crew, the cast, even though they knew I was coming back in the next episode, everybody was still really uneasy about it as they’ve grown to love Derek. There’s something really endearing about him. I love the way he went out. I love that Josh made the choice that he did. He wanted him to go out like a warrior, like a fighter. There wasn’t this big, long, drawn-out thing where everyone’s crying saying, “Derek no, stay with us, don’t go.” I’m not pounding on my chest, bleeding and coughing. That’s the reality of war. When people die in war it’s not glamorous, it’s not very heartfelt. For the most part it’s immediate, it’s loss and you move on. I love the fact that Sarah, being a warrior, did just that. She took his wallet, took his gun and moved on because it’s what you have to do. I think it was really brave and really exciting.

I know people were speculating that that was why I went and did a pilot, because I was killed off the show. And that wasn’t the case at all. I knew I was coming back.

Do you think the news that you had shot a pilot along with the fact that Derek was killed so suddenly helped add to the mystery and suspense of the show?

Yeah, I actually think it worked out well for us. I mean, everybody just assumed at that point that Derek was completely finished, which was great. I think if I wasn’t doing something else, people would of said, “Oh no, it’s ‘Terminator.’ He’ll be back next episode or it’s a dream or something.”

So if there is a season three and your pilot gets picked up as well, how does that work for you as an actor? Which show are you obligated to first?

Well, the pilot I did in second position, which I was really fortunate to have happen. That’s kind of a rare case where another network will pick up an actor for a show in second position, meaning that if “Terminator” gets picked up they just have to recast. They have to go out and cast again and find someone new to play the character that I played in the pilot. They’ll have to re-shoot all my stuff and kind of start over. But “Terminator” is in top position for me. I love the show and the last thing I would want to do is leave. We all love it. As a cast, we all still talk and we’re all really hopeful that the show comes back because we really love making it. We love it. I talked to Summer [Glau] the other night. We were saying what a great episode the finale was and that we just need to keep our fingers crossed. So everybody’s hopeful.

It seems that fans have had a very positive reaction to you in your role on the show. As a sci-fi fan yourself, were you concerned with earning their approval when you first took the part?

Well, thank God they do. It could have gone either way, you know? Look, everybody knows that. It could have worked really well or not worked at all. I grew up loving “The Terminator” as a kid. When “Terminator 2: Judgment Day” came out, it was just one of the most incredible movies I had ever seen at that point. So for me, it was important. I understood that. I understand the fans in the sci-fi community. I understand their passion for what they grow up loving, watching and reading. I understand that if somebody is going to take that and recreate it in anyway, then they better do it the best ****ing way they can.

I grew up loving “Star Wars.” That was my thing, “Star Wars” and “Battelstar Galactica” when I was a kid. But more so than “Battelstar” was “Star Wars,” it was just the most incredible franchise to me. You know, I was so excited when the new films were released. Then obviously, being an old school “Star Wars” fan, I was a bit disappointed by the way the new ones came together.

When I went into “Terminator,” I felt like I better ****ing kick–ass with this character because he’s related to Kyle Reese. I know Kyle Reese is one of the most beloved characters in the franchise so I knew there was a lot riding on it.

Finally, without giving away any of the future plans that you and Josh Friedman have talked about, is it safe to say that if the series continues it will take place in this new timeline and continue where the finale left off?

Well, it would have to in some way. If that’s the last thing we see, I would assume -- but it’s Josh Friedman, you never know. Our first episode of the new season could be on top of a tree. Every time I think I have some sort of idea of where it’s going, and I have some lame concept of what I think it’s going to be, he always surprises me and comes up with something way better than I could have planned. So I have total faith in him. I have faith in our writing staff and our producers and everyone involved.

I think we have one of the best cast and crews on television and it’s a complete collaborative effort. Everyone in every department absolutely loves what they’re doing and everybody works as hard as they can to make the absolute best show that we can. You know, at the end of the day, even if -- God forbid -- season three doesn’t happen, I feel really fortunate to be able to look back on the two seasons that we’ve done and know that we really made two incredible seasons of television. It will be a really cool DVD series for people to watch as long as they want to.

I heard Thomas might get cast in the new NOES remake, but i doubt, that should interfer if a third season is in deed made.

Thomas Dekker Cast In Elm Street Rehash
Posted on Thursday, April 16th, 2009 at 7:06 am by: Brendon Connelly

The word on the street is that Sarah Connor Chronicles has been axed by Fox. I can’t say I’d blame them. Should that leave you wondering - by any chance - what will become of that nice young Thomas Dekker chap, I have your answer.

According to Ryan Rotten at Shock Till You Drop, Dekker has been cast as Jesse in the new Nightmare on Elm Street. So… who is this Jesse? I’ll tell you what I know…

Shock’s report describes Jesse as “a jock on the swim team” but my information suggests this is incorrect and the swim team character is actually Quentin, to be played by Kyle Gallner. As far as I’ve been told, Jesse Braun is the ex-boyfriend of Kris Fowler (they’re the closest thing this version has to Tina and Rod) and is the first to work out that Freddy Krueger is killing the teens of Elm Street through their dreams. Jesse has a motorcycle, which clearly connotes the kind of character they’re going for here (see also: Thomas Dekker’s stand-by scowling demeanor). He is at the heart of the biggest conceptual change in the new version, which I won’t spoil for you, but it’s worth knowing that Freddy might just have a personal grudge against Jesse.

As ever, it is possible that some or all of this is going to change as the film goes through production and post, but at the moment, that’s the deal. I’m betting it remains intact all the way to the silver screen.

The big casting news, of course, is going to be the girls. It’s no secret that, villain aside, the girls are the key casting in any traditional slasher, particularly as one of them is going to wind up as the ‘final girl’. At least in my experience, teenage girls make up a very large proportion of the cinema audience for slasher films and definitely so in comparison to most other genres. What’s more, a large majority of the teenage girls I’ve taught over the years have admitted to being first-weekend punters for horror flicks too. Not sure why this is, but it seems to be related to the abundance of representations of young women in the genre, even though many of these representations are hardly flattering, and definitely not realistic.

Here’s an amusing idea: if this reboot completely tanks, then it can actually be incorporated very easily into the overall Elm Street meta-mythos with a sequel to the New Nightmare. Or, more likely, it can just be lamented a while and then, as the years go by, forgotten.

Come May when Terminator: Salvation is number one in the box office im sure that fox will announce a new series ;)

Just what I was about to say. Why not wait till the movie makes huge buckets of money?

Networks start announcing their fall schedules mid-May.....I don't see Fox putting it off until the start of June just to see what Terminator does

If the show was canceled, what would Fox have to lose by announcing it today instead of in May? Absolutely nothing, because if the show is canceled, then it means that Fox and Terminator are done, professionally.[/obvious_bale_reference] Also, look at this from Warner Bros' perspective-- do they want it to be announced that the Terminator TV series has been canceled, 3 days before the new Terminator movie comes out in theaters? It would make the Terminator franchise look weak, and it would create a ton of bad buzz about the movie and the franchise in general that could potentially hurt T4 at the box office.

IF the show is canceled, then it's possible that Fox is contractually obligated to not announce it, since Warner Bros. may be shopping the show to other networks. However, I think it's a lot more likely that Fox is merely using the close proximity of their fall schedule announcement and T4's premier as a bargaining chip to get a cheaper rate on TSCC's broadcast rights. Warner Bros. on the other hand wants to get a higher rate, and they're likely negotiating to get TSCC on a better night to justify it. At the end of the day though, hopefully they'll come to an agreement that makes both parties happy, and most importantly gets TSCC on a better night!

My preference would be that they do 13-10 episodes in a better time slot, and then if Fox gives them the OK they can make the back nine of season 9 be a lead in for season 4. If Fox says "no, this show is toast, you have 9 episodes to tie things up and then you're done," then they can end the show with Season 3. I don't think they should start season 3 with the assumption that this show is gonna get canceled though. I'd prefer the show not end until season 4.

You may have something there.

They should at least do another 13 or 10 episodes to close up the storylines
I would be happy with 13 more episodes, I really would.

I missed there not being any new episodes of TSCC on tonight.:( Now I have nothing to watch on Friday nights until Monk & Psych start back in the summer.

TV Ratings: 'Prison Break' tanks in Friday return
CBS and ABC split Friday as 'Prison Break' can't even muster 'Dollhouse'-sized audience

Fast National ratings for Friday, April 17, 2009.

Prison Break" shifted to Friday night and did dismal ratings numbers for FOX. On the bright side for the network, the show has already been canceled. On the bright side for FOX, the "Prison Break" numbers almost make "Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles" and "Dollhouse" look great in comparison.

Oh and ABC and CBS split the night.

ABC won in the key 18-49 demographic, doing a 1.6 rating. CBS and NBC tied for second in the demo with a 1.4 rating, beating the 1.0 rating for FOX. The CW's 0.5 rating trailed.

Overall, though, CBS averaged an estimated 6.55 million viewers and a 4.4 rating/8 share. NBC was second with a 3.8/7, followed closely by the 3.5/6 for ABC. FOX's 2.0/4 and The CW's 0.9/2 followed.

CBS won the 8 p.m. hour with a 4.5/9 for a repeat of "Ghost Whisperer." ABC's "Wife Swap" was second with a 3.7/7. NBC's "Howie Do It" averaged a 2.0/4, beating the 1.8/4 for a repeat of the season's most recent "Prison Break" on FOX. The CW's repeats of "Everybody Hates Chris" and "The Game" trailed.

A repeat of "Flashpoint" gave CBS a narrow 9 p.m. win with a 4.2/8, nipping "Dateline NBC." ABC's "Supernanny" had a 3.2/6 for second, topping the 2.2/4 for FOX's new "Prison Break." That "Prison Break" episode averaged a 1.2 rating in the 18-49 demo and 3.38 million viewers. The show will return to the 8 p.m. slot next week. Meanwhile, The CW was last with a repeat of "America's Next Top Model."

NBC won the 10 p.m. hour with a 5.4/10 for "Dateline." CBS' "Numb3rs" repeat had a 4.5/8, beating ABC's "20/20" for the hour.

All ratings information comes from preliminary Fast National Nielsen data, which includes live and same-day DVR viewing. All numbers are subject to change.

More proof that Fox has no clue what the **** they're doing. They take a show off the air for six months, put it back on in a graveyard slot and honestly expect it to do well?

Im disappointed that Savannah wasn't in the season finale... I know she was mentioned a few times throughout the episode but still... I wonder what kind of role she'd play in season 3 if we get a season 3 that is. Would be interesting.

^ Sarah's surrogate daughter?

F'ing Fox, my facebook page is dedicated to promoting SCC and lamenting its premature Termination. :(

I just caught the last two eps yesterday morning after reading that the show was doomed (by USA Today). There was a morning thunderstorm that lasted for HOURS, and it felt like the appropriate time to close the windows, nestle down, and intimately enjoy the remaining episodes on my DVR.

Hopefully this sends the message to Fox that Friday nights suck for dramas / action shows. Maybe since Prison Break did even worse numbers than TSCC typically draws (3.38 million versus 3.5 million) TSCC's producers can make the case that TSCC needs a slot other than Friday. TSCC's numbers for the back 9 weren't much better than what Prison Break did on Fridays, but at least the case can be made that Friday overall isn't a viable night.

Well it really doesn't....when CBS has 3 dramas on Friday nights that do well...Ghost Whisperer (which has been on for a bit now), Numb3rs (this is its 3rd season now I think) and Flashpoint (which is doing well)...the problem is that Fox's target audience isn't home that much Friday nights...so it sucks for Fox....not for other channels

It's funny 'cause it started during the whole pop idol fad in the early '00s, but now that's mostly subsided (replaced by pop punk and emo bands, which are even worse) and American Idol is still going strong. Does anyone other than old women even listen to these people's music after they win?

Sheep food is all Idol's good for. It's a saw mill for people's time, and as long as sheeple are desperate for "public" inclusion, they'll keep watching mindlessly.

Well if ET says its all but gone, might as well count it as gone.

"F--- EW!" That magazine has turned into a soft gossip rag with no couth of scholarship or even noteworthy journalism.

Great, just what I needed.

Another tv series I invested some time in to be cut down before reaching a proper conclusion. :whatever:

I knew I shouldn't have bought season 1 on blu-ray. :cmad:

Whatever! Be proud of that purchase. After watching the finale I feel like they gave me the kind of closure that encourages me to pick up BOTH seasons on Bluray when I make the jump...early purchases too!

WTF??? That last episode confused the holy hell out of me and left me wanting more and now it might be canceled? Worst day ever man!

Read Friedman's interview. They closed all of the character story arcs and shifted the show completely. That makes it the PERFECT occasion to go out w/a bang, or possibly end up on another channel.

I hope so, we need a 3rd season.

This much is true. But I think of it this way: Even if T:SCC never sees the light of TV day again, the quality is worthy of say, a third & fourth season released in comic book form??? Think about it, Buffy, Angel, Firefly, and now Pushing Daisies all executed transitions to that form, and T:SCC is right up that alley in terms of fanbase. You heard it hear first.

Closure-filled? Did we watch the same episode? Is that like saying "Valentine for the fans"?

Yes, it is. Giving you every answer you want would be like telling you to watch Idol. Baaaaaaaaaaaahahaaaaaaa....

CBS is the #1 network though, and they've pretty much got the drama audience locked up for Fridays. There's just plain not enough viewers to go around between 4 networks on that night, and Fox has proven that.

Plus, for everyone that isn't out on Fridays, cable more often offers better programming than the networks. Before T:SCC came on Fridays, the only show I would ever watch when home were cable: Survivorman, Man vs. Wild, HBO, FX, etc...

I could certainly see her appearing in the future, no doubt with a furious confrontation with the Shirleynator over abandonment issues. And as a 20+ year old female redhead, she'll no doubt be played by a hot actress. Which then lead John disgusted with himself; for being attracted to both, the girl who looks exactly like Cameron (meaning she'll likely be killed by her some time in the future for Cameron to steal her identity) and the little girl he had taught how to tie her shoelaces! And being unable to choose!! :woot:
