Or in another timeline.

In general, it's not ridiculous to assume that Sentinels are a technology that doesn't quite work out in the 70's, is put into retirement, and then through advances in tech, becomes a key part in the struggle against humans and mutants in the future.

Hmmm based on pics, anyone getting the X-Men Evolution vibe here?

So if the Sentinels have been around the entire time, where have they been?
not everything that was around in the 70's-80's are still around today, or talked about/ mentioned on a regular bases

gained, 18 foot tall robots is a hard thing to forget about, but, if it was just a normal part of their history, its not necessarily a big deal to them

Maybe the Sentinels failed or malfunctioned during a public demonstration so they were not taken seriously, but Trask fixes and refines them. So they are just waiting to be used.

They're 18 ft. tall. They already are approaching The Animated Series size, if they're not there already. The people in the background, closest to the sentinel, look as though they pose about as much a threat as Rogue and Wolverine in these shots.

That's what threw me off. I was focusing too much on the people in the foreground.

Interesting to have the Sentinels appearing in 70s and 80s events. As if the timeline has already been altered before Wolverine ever went back.

How awesome is it that the things are maroon/purple?

They wouldn't have to go back to 1973 to stop it in that case

I think the idea is they create more and more through the decades, upgrading them and stuff, they are like body guards to stop mutant attacks and stuff in 70s,80s ect ect

I think people have to realise that just because there was no mention in the OT doesn't mean there were not some around, it says there was something like 8000 around the world by 1990s

People need to stop looking so hard into what was not said meaning something didnt happen to what wasn't said didn't need to be said

tho, you would think if they were still around during the OT timeline, there would've been at least one at the United Nations summit (in x1) with all the worlds leaders gather in one place

Well that website has given dates and stuff saying that they did exist and 8000 mark 1s where spread out around the world by 1990s, I'm not sure you can go by the idea that all that is from the point wolverine arrives because it makes the whole process of this website meaningless

It may end up a continuity error in united nation summit, but mostly the sentinels were not mentioned at all, it doesn't mean they didn't exist though, but it probably will be explained

There will probally be some kind of explanation on their role in series.

Maybe they fell out of favor after the reagan years.

Maybe they were declared to inhumane, causing too many casualties than targets. And are banned like Sarin Gas, Napalm, or even the Atomic Bomb.

I dunno i think if there was a time they stopped being a threat they wouldn't have had to go back to the 70s to stop it, the only reason you would go back that far is if you are desperate and that was the only way to stop them

i am shocked that they are purple. the color works so good on the sentinels. i thought that fox would make them black. black is cool right?

they look amazing.

It's not that they stopped being a threat they just stopped being used but most likely being perfected in secret not to mention the blueprints probably still existed. Just because no one uses it doesn't mean its not a threat. And it seems that its going to make a comeback. The only way to get rid of the threat is to prevent it from being created.

Precisely.

They have to go back to 1973 because somehow the crux of the future destruction all begins and is traced back to an event in 1973.

The creation and unveiling of the very first sentinels. Stop it being created, stop it being around in the future to be commissioned to control and destroy mutants.

The Sentinel designs have grown on me, I'm okay with the glass visor over the face now. However, I think the Mark X will be more of the version that I was expecting. Hopefully bigger as well.

I'm predicting Legacy Virus :D. Just reading in 1973 the first genetically modified organism is created, a simple bacterium...Viruses start out as bacterica :D
