Homecoming The Side-Villains: the Shocker and Thinkerer thread!

Y'know it really is trash compared to the Shocker suit in the past Spidey films...oh wait. :)

He's right you know

There's a point when youy have to admit when you've gone too far down the rabbit hole when trying to explain why something looks crappy. At this point you're making up nonexistent back story to excuse it.

I don't see you providing any facts

It's true, though. Shocker, in the comics made the suit to absorb the shock/vibration waves from his Gauntlets. That's why it it's made up, of what looks like cushion pads.

I'm not the one writing fan fiction here.

Yes. He has a padded suit in the comics. The... comics. Not in those pics though.

*facepalm

unless you have x-ray vision I don't know why you think the underneath of the vest wouldn't be padded. Pretty sure the clothes underneath will be padded in the chest and ab areas, you just can't see because the photos are so low quality and he has a vest covering most of his upper body. And it's not fan fiction, I'm just stating facts from the comics and my opinion on what the movie shocker should be based on the comics.
Want some evidence? here you go

"To guard himself from this, he developed a protective costume consisting largely of yellow quilt patches designed to absorb the shock. The costume is made of foam-lined synthetic fabric which absorbs all vibrations and establishes a vibrational shield which deflects normal blows and allows him to slip from any grasp."

"After finally being caught and incarcerated for his crimes, he developed a pair of gauntlets designed to shoot air blasts, vibrating at high frequency." - this shows that he created the gauntlets in prison

correct, the same cusion patterning is used for shock absorption in architecture as well, ever been in a recording studio? even some cinemas have it, that crisscross cusion you're talking about absorbs types of energies like sound for example.

Costume looks fine , other then he looks kind of skinny

But after the over the top costumes in ASM 2 , I like how their dialing back on these costumes , kinda fits in with that Vulture concept art

He'll probably look more beefy in action due to camera angles, special fx etc.

Vulture's design looks far better for me. That was one comic design I had no problem not seeing. Though the jacket gives a nice homage with the furry collar without looking silly.

I do like that they went with the full mask , most these Hollywood movies seem to try and get away from that , they even cover up his eyes

I do like that bomber jacket for the Vulture , I thought it was a pretty clever idea

We are now in the golden age of Superhero Movies so get excited to see more stuff thats accurate to the comics :D

Are reports coming in that the pics are fake? Or do you think people just really want them to be fake?

I get the comments on the dirty jacket but if this is his first altercation with Spider-man or a first attempt at a suit that costume wasn't bad. It leaves them room to improve as he potentially receives backing, improves his design, and moves toward a potential Sinister 6 movie.

THE ANT-MAN SUIT WAS MADE BY HANK PYM WHO HAD ALOT OF RESOURCES BECAUSE HE WORKED FOR SHIELD! SHOCKER IS A STREET LEVEL CRIMINAL!! I am sorry for raging but I don't understand why people don't get this.

Thank you. The only feasible way I see an Ant-Man type suit or something is if he stole it from BioTech, Trask, Hammer, OsCorp (God forbid) or some such.

I would have loved to see a more comics accurate adaptation than this, but I'm really totally OK with what we have here if it's real. I definitely think it will look better in action and it's a very good adaptation compared to say someone like Loki or Yellowjacket (who both looked great IMO but not comic accurate--Shocker keeps just enough design elements to be recognizable and accurate enough for me to give it full support).

But does that mean that all Spider-Man villains who don't get their costumes from there are going to look very low tech and low budget?

Of course not, many of them have backstories such as owning a corporation (Osborn, Kingsley), advanced knowledge of special effects and costume design (Beck), or volunteering for an experiment (Gargan) that more logically fit with a great, Hollywood-style costume. That's what bothered me most about one of the comments in this thread. Someone said something like "when I look at this, I don't think Hollywood-designed." You're not supposed to, hello! I don't go to the movies to say "This is very Hollywood-script like. I greatly enjoy how Hollywood polished that guy's costume was." I go to see characters I enjoy brought to life!

Shocker has many different characterizations from different eras (Silver Age vs "Superior Foes") and universes (616 vs Ultimate) that I can understand why he came out looking like this.

Now if we got a Green Goblin who looked like he'd been dumpster diving despite owning a large corporation and having many materials/technologies at his disposal, that would be different.

But the fact is, they're taking a very street-level villain in Shocker and fully embracing that aesthetic. As mentioned, I'd love a more faithful take but I'm perfectly OK with this as what we got.

Something to consider too is wasn't there filming at a prison? Like a prison breakout? What if these photos of a supposed Shocker suit are, again, his prototype suit, Tinkerer or Vulture get Shocker out, and then give him an upgraded suit and gauntlets.

No one "has to explain" why the suit looks "crappy". It's already there as a part of his character. His suit SHOULDN'T look professional, because he doesn't want a professional suit. Shocker as a character would not bother to make something "look nice". I expected his costume to look homemade and tossed together, and that's what they did.

Not necessarily, you have to remember Shocker built his first costume while he was in prison
