Homecoming The Side-Villains: the Shocker and Thinkerer thread!

Ehh, Mysterio is a little different IMO. Heʻs supposed to be hokey. Itʻs his schtick. And I wouldnʻt be opposed if they updated/changed his costume some (certainly not digging that fake concept art you posted though).

I know, which is his charm. However, some want classic Mysterio's design with his updated personality that was in a Daredevil run as opposed to Spider-Man. Just doesn't work.

While I understand the idea behind your Vulture posts, I really think those are still a little too fantastical to come off in the somewhat (and only ever-so-slightly) grounded MCU at least costume-design wise.

I disagree, especially with the top two and the last two. Similar to Falcon in that regard but different that he'd stand out on his own as he should.

I like the addition of the bomber jacket, not big on the blue circles in the wings, and I donʻt hate the mask, especially assuming that it wonʻt be on much of the time Vulchie is on screen. So I donʻt love or hate the concept art for the movie, but Iʻm certainly not mad it. I didnʻt expect a straight-up adaptation of the Vulture purely based on Malekith and other Marvel villains. Some designs just donʻt translate to the big screen--(like red hair and green eyes--IʻM KIDDING!!!).

Fair enough to you, but as I said, there isn't really any I've posted there (maybe with the exception of WoS' design) that would be difficult of translating to the big screen at all. :oldrazz:

Still feel like their change was more forced than anything else. I also don't really put much stock into the grounded arguments of the MCU because every bit of the MCU is different. Plus, we're on a forum about guy in red and blue spandex fighting people depicting reptiles, rhinos, etc. so eh.

Regardless of my lame joke, I understand why some concept artists/producers/etc. decided against a Vulture costume closer to what you posted. I wouldnʻt have minded it, but I really am intrigued by the concept art and the idea that it will look more classic and appease more once we see the Vulture sans helmet in the film.

He'll look better, sure, but not sure if it'll make that much of a difference.

Oh, his face is obscured so he's still Mysterio. :o
But i like the first design :csad: :o

The execution was poor, but I don't think TASM2 was totally awful in how they did the Goblin design. I think the best and most plausible way to get the classic Green Goblin look is to have him mutate. Turn his skin green and his eyes yellow. Then give him some armor and a purple hood and you got a solid Goblin look anyway.

Plus I think it kind of cleans up the origin, in a way. Instead of "I drank a formula, got super strength and then decided to dress up as a Goblin" it goes to "I drank a formula and got turned into a Goblin creature with super strength."

It really doesn't change all that much, and in a practical sense, it makes much more sense than a super emotive mask. It's the best way to get the classic look on screen.

Would we actually be able to identify that as a Green Goblin without the glider? Methinks not.
Would we be able to identify this version of Vulture without his wings? See what I'm getting at, the only thing that makes both of these designs even slightly recognizable are their silhouettes.

I'd prefer Mysterio to look like his comic book-counterpart. Never was a fan of the Ultimate look. Looked to Daft Punk to me. I want the hokey fishbowl, cape, and Ozymandias-looking costume. There are some villains you can update their looks or ground them but his is one that is made to be over-the-top.

With Vulture, I don't see how it was so hard to do the "SSM" design only with green.

I hope they don't change too much about Myserio's look when he comes to film as well. I love the classic costume.

Completely agree with this.

This is true, but it's also comics. Everyone needs a gimmick in this world, and the MCU is no different. Cheesy? Yes. Who cares, though?

I wouldn't necessarily boycott the film if the Goblin transformation was physical, but I'd rather see the mask personally.

Well, to be fair, the Vulture without his wings is just an old geezer. Minus the helmet, this one may be the same way. My point was more, the Goblin without his glider is still the Goblin--supposedly. The Vulture without his wings is, well, an old fart.

To each his own for sure! I like the approach they've taken, and while I love and appreciate the Vulture's classic look, I guess I never really expected anything super close to that... maybe that's why I'm less bothered.

How would you guys feel about the short-lived Mysterio redesign by Romita Jr. from the mid-90s during the Clone Saga? I really liked it personally lol.

There was only a few appearances of this outfit, but in ASM #413 they did add the fishbowl back. I'd love this as an "updated" look if we can't have the true OG:

Thoughts, gentlemen? Have you ever seen this costume before? Love it or hate it?

I miss the purple. Plus, he looks too alien and galactic to me. Give me the wannabe sorcerer with the Egyptian looking ruler-duds any day of the week.

He wasn't really a wannabe sorcerer until SSM took that route (at least not in 616 that I can recall off the top of my head).

I love the purple as well, but pray tell how that is influenced by Egypt other than the all-seeing eyes?

I guess I always saw his costume as he was trying to be a god or whatever. And the eye motif always seemed Egyptian to me like as far as the hieroglyphic eye symbol. *Shrugs*

I want this for Mysterio. There are a few manips that have been done over the years of Mysterio by posters on here that have been like, "Yep! That's perfect!"

I wouldn't mind if Shocker's design was like this instead of the classic containment suit that he used with the gloves

That's not awful, it still has the yellow padding, I'd accept it, but...

This is PERFECT. It's basically live-action ready. Come on Marvel, listen to Shia and JUST DO IT!

Personally, I really am not digging that at all. The skull, the weird drapes, the hood and chain, all seem off to me.

Agreed on that Shocker design! A few minor tweaks and it's cinema gold.

Bottom. That is like camera-ready, needs to happen cinematically awesome.

Any, the top one is a design i myself really like, the second one, it could use improvement, maybe something like this:

But overall, that Ultimate Alliance 2 design, badass, really amazing!

Depends what you want out of Mysterio, really. Some want to take him seriously and some want him campy.

I want him on the campy side, myself, with a comedic actor in the role. Sucks Starr is playing a random teacher, but hey. :oldrazz:

I think it would be kinda of interesting if Mystery kept changing costumes based on what was happening in the movie. Maybe it wouldn't be practical but you could chalk it up "Hollywood Flashiness/Ego". :hyper:

I personally like the Sci-Fi look he had in the SM2 game
