I think it's really for the best. If they would have established from the beginning that the X-Men franchise is more colorful, and all the X-Men dress up in unique and iconic suits, it would have worked. But the Movies firmly established that is not the case. Especially with a Wolverine that makes fun of costumes and cares so little to keep a low profile. What does Logan need a mask for? To hide his identity? Even he doesn't know who he is. For protection? He's got an adamantium skull.
Maybe he could have donned the suits once in a sequel, and then it gets trashed beyond repair. And I doubt he's going to call Mariko and ask for a spare.
