Anyone else notice how chipper Cap seemed? He came off as so much more comfortable and funny! He was a bit too serious in TA and TWS, which made sense because he just got defrosted and thrown into a strange new world.

Cap finally seems to have found his place.

Yeah, I was surprised how funny he was made to be.

Cap was written really well in this film. I've criticized his characterization in the past in Avengers and Winter Soldier but Whedon really delivered here, well done. This is the most I've liked Cap since The First Avenger.

Hanging out with and doing good work with The Avengers probably put his mind at ease about things, where as he just work up in The Avengers and didn't like Shield's methods in the beginning of The Winter Soldier. I liked that a lot.

It's a small detail but I really appreciated how he landed on his feet after being knocked into the air by Pietro in the opening.

Yep, I loved that little detail. Whedon did his homework.

I wish they would dump the whole Sharon thing, because it's just icky. I really think they should just leave the relationships for Steve out of the MCU. Face it, he's like the ultimate good guy for us, and no matter what, no girl is going to be good enough for our Cap. But, if they do decide to go this route, I think they should just create a new character, someone not part of Shield or the Avengers, someone with no ties to Cap's past.

Agreed regarding Sharon. Recast or no, the Peggy connection is icky; it's firmly established that Peggy is the love of Steve's life (so far?) and the Sharon connection would just be wrong.

And this is a hero's tale, the Avengers that is, and so, I guess that's OK. But I'd hate it if his whole story is told in the movies with not even a hint of a personal life (romantic interest) outside of his heroics.

Also, it was touching to see Steve looking deleriously happy for a nano second in his SW-induced vision dancing with Peggy and then...nothing.

Keep in mind it was one director's vision of the character, and now he is out, it could change.

The Russos seemed interested in giving him a love interest.

The MCU Sharon, who got like three minutes of screentime total. Not sure if I'd call her "boring" just yet, she hasn't gotten to do anything yet. The ironic thing that I noticed involves CW. Given how this movie ends:

With Cap running a more SHIELD-like Avengers group with ex-SHIELD personal involved. It'd seem to point to him being the pro-government one. Also his beliefs in the first Cap movie and some of his comments about innocent people paying for the Avenger's screw-ups. TWS really is the big outlier in that regard, everything else points to Cap being the pro-registration one. Likewise nothing about the end of this movie points to Tony going all government-cheerleader, quite the reverse actually. It'll be interesting to see how the Russo's reconcile that.

Steve's in charge of a private organization, not working for the gov't.

He was already suspicious of SHIELD in Avengers when he found the weapons and the TWC didn't exactly engender trust when they tried to nuke NY. In TWS he's with SHIELD partly because he doesn't have any other place in the world and partly because it's what Peggy built and he's supporting the legacy but even pre HYDRA reveal he was getting sick and tired of Fury's lies, duplicity and and unethical stuff they were asking him to do.

Yes he's tired of innocent people dieing for their mistakes but those mistakes are not ones that are restricted to non gov't agency and he has little trust in them.

It's clear in AOU that Tony is still

suffering from PSTD and still fearful of world invasion while also feeling immense guilt about his creation of Ultron. I find it believable that he might come to think if the the great futurist couldn't successfully privatize world peace then gov't maybe should be involved. He also had Scarlet Witch in his brain and she went into Hulk's brain and caused that rampage. Toss in Bucky and his past and the incident that's rumored to spark The Civil War and one could see how he buys into regulation of the super powered.

As for Sharon in the MCU unless she's recast she's not going to be interesting no matter how much time they give her and to beat a dead horse any romantic relationship with Steve would be creepy as hell after they spent so much time building up Peggy as his lost and mourned great love. The MCU doesn't need another romantic relationship subplot that doesn't work.

Making a lot of assumptions there. Frankly Steve spending the rest of his pining over "the one that got away" instead of finding some measure of happiness is just not appealing to me. It's also not what Peggy would want (Hell she eventually got married).

Same here. I don't understand why people think Steve should remain a virgin just because he can't have Peggy, and like you said Peggy didn't swear off family and children even after she was heartbroken over Steve's apparent demise. Peggy will always have a special place in his heart, but it's not like these two were ever married or made a promise to never see anybody else. In the comics, Steve had moved on, and it's time the MCU Steve does the same.

If Cap does need a love interest, I actually wouldn't mind someone from off world, like Sif or Gamora, who I think are excellent personalities, and that they can handle themselves. Also, I believe it's been hinted that Steve, due to the serum, will outlive any normal human being, so if he was to fall for a earth chick, him outliving her for a great distance will again put him right back into that depression he was in the beginning. Gamora's and Sif's life expectancy will be considerably longer than a mere human. And if people gripe that "it's not in the comics" guess what, a great deal of stuff we are seeing in the movies are not like it is in the comics. Pepper Potts was married to Happy in the comics, and no mention of that in the movies, and, Tony had a fling with Gamora in the comics, which I doubt we will see in the movies.

I personally would love it if we had a movie where Cap did go to Asgard to help Thor out with some great evil.

She's gorgeous, has a great personality, can kick ass, and if Thor can have a relationship with earth's plain Jane, then why not Sif have a relationship with super soldier Steve Rogers?

I have no problem with Steve moving on it's moving on with Sharon that's disturbing. If they ever wanted that relationship to not be creepy then the MCU shouldn't have introduced Peggy let alone invested so much time in building that relationship up in the movies and TV show to then pair him up with her grand niece as some younger Carter replacement. Icky.

It only works in the comics - barely (there are so many issues with that on and off again train wreck of a relationship) because Peggy was not a major player in the comics let alone introduced first. The MCU is a different beast otherwise we wouldn't have Tony & Pepper or Nat & Bruce or Clint

Sharon is far from the only game in town as concerns a potential love interest for Steve. At this point even Maria Hill makes more sense, and there's Wanda etc. Moreover EVC is blah as an actress and their chemistry test in TWS was a fail which is something of an accomplishment seeing as he had chemistry with every one else in the movie.

This makes me wonder if Disney was the one that pursued Feige to use her, considering she just happens to be in their show Revenge (which I couldn't get into, because like you said, she's a bland actress) Too bad they didn't use an actress from Once Upon a Time, they have a few in there that would have been better. But then again, like you said, it's the whole Peggy's niece thing that is revolting. I really hope the producers just scrap the thing altogether. Just kill off the Sharon character in the next movie, and get someone else (like Sif!)

Sif has everything MCU Sharon (or Sharon, anyway) hasn't. It could definitely work

If I'm gonna "ship" Cap with anyone other than Peggy now, it would be Maria Hill. I agree with those that say despite being unable to be with the love of his life, the guy still deserves to move on and have some companionship. I prefer Hill over Sharon (ew), Sif or Natasha for that. Steve/Maria would be similar enough to Steve/Sharon from the comics, but without the ick factor and with a character who's already carved a nice place for herself in the MCU and has a working rapport with him.

I personally don't think MCU Steve should remain a "virgin" (the "" is because retconning of some sort of experience is always possible, despite the fact that Chris Evans himself apparently also believes that Steve is a virgin) because the character needs to some extent live in the world and have some stakes in it beyond his personal idealism.

I want a love interest for Steve to move on to only if the writers & directors are committed to actually thinking it through and giving it appropriate screen time amidst all the action and service to RDJ. Otherwise, leave it alone.

The next evolution of Cap should not be just be more skills, but more depth of feeling. He needs to have something of personal value to loose. And this doesn't necessarily need to mean a love interest, but an interest in his own life. Unless the MCU really plans to go down the road of Saint Steve, Super Soldier. [blackout] In which case, it's a good set up for killing the character or sending him back in time or whatever, once CE is done with the role.[/blackout]

I don't think anything in AoU said Cap doesn't want to meet anyone. He just said he doesn't want to leave the life. He can still be a superhero and orchastrate the Avengers, and have a love interest. They're not mutually exclusive ideas.

Given Cap's nightmare in Ultron [blackout]I don't think he'll get a love interest. At least not until some sort of epilogue. He's terrified of settling down and having no one to fight, and going back to being useless little Steve Rogers.

So I don't think he's ready to move on. Not just because of Peggy, but because of the idea of dating in general to him[/blackout]

I definitely thought Steve's vision tugged my heart strings the most. I also like that it's open to interpretation.

The line of thought that appeals to me most is

His greatest fear/regret is that he missed his chance at his dance with Peggy, and that he'll always be alone. I like this one because it shows how much Steve really loved Peggy, and how loyal he is to her. I understand why people would rather that he moved on, but even if he does I love that this vision showed how much he truly wanted to be with Peggy. Like they say, true love only happens once and I can see Steve living that. Deep down, he's just a simple good man.
