That's why I dont believe in the "Destruction of Metropolis" people keep refering to.

It's still very much possible, it would just mean said scene was shot in studios and in front of a green screen.

IMO it's still only a marginal improvement. I've rarely been impressed with such methods, as they almost always fail to replicate the size and scale of the real outdoors.

If anything, I just see the final climactic scene taking place where it happens in ONE specific area in the city (that can easily be filmed within a studio lot), with Superman and Zod having flown through Metropolis, and having a fight mid air, causing the people of Metropolis to run in fear like we saw them having filmed.

If it was anything like that, we'd have seen it on the set pics. It's one thing I'm worried about; seeing so little action outside.

I don't know...

I know there were reports of smoke being pumped into one of the city sets... There's no smoke without fire :p

Don't forget, we haven't seen ANY set pics from the chicago shoot, have we? If we'd seen plenty of pics of the chicago shoot and nothing in it indicated a big fight scene, then I'd be a bit more worried. But they just simply haven't let anything be leaked...

Which actually makes me think they are MORE concerned with covering up the Metropolis fight scene than they are the Smallville one, which we've seen a hell of a lot of pics for.

But hey, I could be completely wrong. Maybe the Smallville fight or the Airbase scene are the final showdowns. I'm sure they'll still be amazing. :)

I'm just keeping my fingers crossed for a Metropolis fight... It fits with the fangirl ideas I had for the movie :D

I truly hope that's the case.:yay:

I'd hate to think that the action scale of this film will be of that like the action sequence in New Mexico for "Thor".

This is a big concern of mine also but what keeps me positive is I cant imagine Zack Synder making a film that would feel as small scale as Thor.

Oh, I just remembered this from a while back as well!

[QUIOTE] But there’s some construction going on at a building on that block, and the above poster is on a wall facing where the movie was shooting. The logo of the actual construction company is on there, but I don’t know if the construction company or the production company is responsible for it. Either way, I love it, because it took someone’s attention for detail to create it. If you look closely at the bottom, the logos are for the "Daily Planet Reconstruction Fund," a couple of City of Metropolis agencies, the United Constructionists union, the "Metropolis Green Building Initiative," and the "Metropolis Transit Authority."[/QUOTE]

Taken from comic book movie.

Thor just didnt have very good action IMO. It was kinda dull staged and I didnt find the CG very convincing.

Just because it's on a small scale doesnt mean it cant be epic. You're just not looking at it the right way.
A good little intimate boxing-match can be epic.
As long as it's dramatic and well staged size is not important.

Every Synder movie explodes with effects to make it look bigger and better. 50% of the time, it pays off.

Here's the thing, if they're filming outside, there's nothing they can do to stop leaks. Nolan is one of the most secretive directors around, but even he couldn't prevent the constant snapshots every day he filmed.

I just don't like studio sets because they almost never come off as convincing. Your avvy for example, I'm almost positive that is green screen. It takes me out of the experience for a bit.

True and I can agree with that. That's why I was thrilled to hear at first that they were trying to film on location as much as possible, but when it comes to the action scenes, we haven't seen as much filmed outside.

As for my avi.lol, well there have been photos to confirm that they most likely filmed that sequence outside on location instead of their background being entirely Green Screen.

The cheesy costumes still ruin the illusion though. :oldrazz:

Does anyone think their likely to be taking much from Last Son?

I've just bought it, haven't read it yet, but just flicking through I could see how it could be quite appropriate :)

I'll post more on the matter when i've read it (might be a few days due to work) but has anyone else read it?

Pretty certain they are. As some of us have stated in the past. Nolans, Goyer and Snyder will probably taking inspiration from Last Son, Birthright, For All Seasons, Byrnes Man of Steel run, Secret Origins, and maybe a little stuff from Johns Braniac run.

I just want to see something from the film.... anything.... It's a veritable drought in here at the moment....

I remember Goyer specifically citing Johns' whole run as an inspiration. Which makes sense.

you dont like the bad studio sets. big difference.the rotating shot from Avengers is fake . why? becaus they filmd with bad studio spot lights inside. why? who knows.

you know how you film big streets with greenscreen? like this
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kbcOF27M3Ck&feature=related

it is possible to build a small part and then extend it. Nolan also had this option. but he said NO. i will spoil everything because he is obssesed with real location and realism.

It's a very well done shot, but even in theaters I noticed it was just a good fake. Most of the CGI in Kong had a paint-like sheen to it, which I'm sure was intentional. Still didn't feel real.

Yeah. They made CA's outfit worse than it was in the solo film. Black Widows hair is horrible. Thors suit still looks like a Halloween costume.

Arrghh

All that CGI used in Kong, just didn't feel real to me. You can tell in that one it was all just CGI.

Dunno about Black Widow and Hawkeye. They dont really look cheesy. They look more "real". But Cap and Thor look like crap. Oddly Cap looked better in his old baggy outfit than the new skintight one, like you mentioned. The new one just looks goofy. Evans looks so skinny. The shoulders are way to wide and that helmet lacks. But the overall design looks great when Evans is not in it.

Thor's outfit has a great design too (sans the lower parts like the boots), but looks like plastic. And Mjolnir looks like a toy mostly because of the weight-thing.

Only one person that looks good in Avengers is Loki.

The sfx in fantasy or period movies get extra scrutiny because we know they can’t be real – even though they’re well done technically.

There’s something informally known as the “toupée fallacy.” It begins as a claim that fakery is always easy to spot. But it’s a fallacy because there’s no way of knowing how many really good fakes escaped notice. :cwink:

Eh, I can't say I've ever bought into this. At least personally.

I was blown away by Jurassic Park. Incredibly impressed with Transformers. In awe of what Avatar depicted. In every single scenario I knew I was looking at something fake, but that's what made it so unbelievably good; it felt like you were looking through the lens of a camera that was shooting at something real.

I'm not the type to go against what my eyes tell me. Regardless of what I "know" is true.

As for your examples, I'm actually pretty adept at spotting where the green-screen and vfx are. Like I said before, it's good -- but it doesn't fool me. The best example in recent time that absolutely floored me was how much green-screen Zodia used. I had zero inclination anything was off, until years later when I got the BluRay and checked out the extras.

The one thing that I'd like to know is why does Zod need a CGI suit, along with the other individuals that were seen wearing them (assuming that they weren't just Shannon's stunt doubles) when Faora doesn't?
