TSS cost nearly $200m to make. That budget, in hindsight, is inexcusable.
Im sure idris, Viola and Margo didn't come cheap and the heavy vfx will make a budget go up real quick.

I think this has a chance of becoming a cult hit even after its run is done with many of the GA who stayed away finding out they like it a lot when coming across it on streaming.
True, but that is reasonably common in cult films. I think there are many in the GA (the kind who like unusual and risky films (also the type of films that go on to become cult films) and don’t go so much for franchise sequels) who are into this kind of thing but wouldn’t expect to find it in or look for it in a CBM. I’m hoping word gets through to them asap.I agree, i can actually picture this making bank on home video. I think the movie is just a little…TOO off kilter for general audiences like Birds of Prey was. This is several notches above BoP in terms of quality but it still has a niche feel to it. I can easily see people being kind of like “wut?” at all these obscure, weird villain characters. Hell, I’m a seasoned comic book fan and i had no idea who the Hell Ratcatcher 2 was.
Ayer’s SS had some big anchors for audiences to latch onto in order to ride with the movie’s concept. Here…not so much. They have Harley and Idris Elba and John Cena in a funny helmet, I guess?
At least it wasn’t an R for the sake of a few curse words. This was a pretty hard R and part of the fundamental makeup of the film. I’m not one for excess gore but most of the elements of the film fit together naturally so it was always going to get that rating and will just have to deal with any box office consequences. It’s not even suitable for young kids lol.GOTG also wasn’t rated R and released during a pandemic. The Suicide Squad is fun, but it’s a lot harder to market to kids even though a ton of them are probably gonna see it anyway.
Yeah, it even made the most violent moments in the Deadpool movies look tame. I’m actually kind of shocked that the MPAA allowed some of the stuff that they did, likeAt least it wasn’t an R for the sake of a few curse words. I’m not into gore at all, but I could cope with pretty much everything - even though it was pretty consistently out there throughout. The one thing I don’t like watching is bone breaks (the wrong way). Had to look away at one point and pretty loudly said “no!” in the cinema. Yeah the difference is that this film revels in those things while the other films you mention are doing it to tell the story. That is part of what this film is - a crazy, dark, no-holds barred comedy. This movie just isn't going to be for everybody, especially compared to something like GOTG which is nowhere near as weird, crazy and most of all gory as this movie was.
I honestly think the niche, vulgar humor is less GA friendly than anything regarding the violence in the movie, but I guess it could be a combination of both aswell.
Even films like Logan, Joker and the two Deadpool movies seem more appealing in comparison, but atleast Gunn didn't waste the almost $200M budget he recieved for it.
Somehow I feel like even if he had been aware of it, it wouldn’t have made much of a difference. It’s not like it would have made any sense for any of the supporting cast of BOP to be shoehorned into this. That being said though, it is a shame that Ewan McGregor’s Black Mask didn’t survive that movie because I feel like Gunn could have had some fun with him in TSS.Incase anybody was wondering:
I don't think him dying really matters. They don't seem to care about continuity so if Gunn wants to use him in something else I'm sure nobody would oppose itSomehow I feel like even if he had been aware of it, it wouldn’t have made much of a difference. Probably not but DCEU in general seems to adhere to continuity to an extent. For example, the events of the first Suicide Squad aren’t mentioned in Gunn’s movie but there’s nothing to suggest that they didn’t happen. But I don’t think there’ll be any resurrecting dead characters without explanation unless The Flash completely shakes up the timeline.I don't think him dying really matters. Incase anybody was wondering:
similar to the first movie, it's the middle-aged folk who are weighing down the audience exits on Gunn’s Suicide Squad with 66% over 25 giving it a B, and 37% over 35 a B-. In fact, the over 25 crowd enjoyed this sequel slightly less than Ayer’s giving it a B- to the first’s B.”
