The Suicide Squad: General Discussion and Speculation

I can't tell you how badly WB has dropped the ball with the Harley Quinn character, if there was ever a character that embodied the phrase "sex sells" it was Harley, yet for whatever PC reason they chose to go away from it, and here we are, back to back flops with that character front and centre.
So…you’re arguing in order for Harley to be a viable character in movies she has to be sexualized?

Wait, so… you’re arguing that the only way for a Harley movie to be successful would be for her to prance around half naked the whole time? Dude… just watch a porn parody or something. I’m sure there’s a film called Suicide Squat or Butts of Prey out there.

I like this version of Harley just fine, best part about BoP and SS imo, its the mainstream audience that doesn't.

Harley did the best under Gunn direction, she wasn't like "oh look at me! Look at me!" and she didn't look like an action figure but a real character with some subtle nuances.

I think this is the last we're gonna see of Harley for a while and I'm ok with that. We got three movies with her and I personally felt Margot was good in all three despite the varying quality of the movies themselves.

I say give the character a break for 2-3 years. Get a good Gotham City Sirens script going in the meantime with Catwoman and Ivy and get that movie get that greenlit for 2024 or 2025 for her big comeback.

Eh, Gunn is definately getting another movie from DC, maybe with a lower budget and Margot has already expressed desire to continue, I can see Gunn and Margot coming back for some other DC movie within next 2 years. (Secret Six ?)

Her booty shorts look is still far and away her most popular look. Men and Women loved it. Go to any costume party and you'll see that particular outfit in abundance

Also bring back Joker. How does WB expect people to care about her break up when all we've gotten was like 5 min of them together

Gunn so far appears to be the only director to understand the character and know when to unleash her or pull her back a bit

Honestly, this is why I have a hard time taking SHH's Anti-Harley/Margot takes seriously. There's usually some weird, biased agenda behind it.

Harley became famous off a kids cartoon...she doesn't need "Sex sells" as a gimmick.
I've noticed for some time now the criticisms of Margots Harley rarely ever made sense. Her most iconic look is the jester outfit, and she had that look for years and years. It's only in the past decade with the arkham games, Injustice, her solo comic, etc, that her look has changed. Harley's "sex appeal" was never what made her such a popular character, especially among women.

Also, Margot as Harley has continued to be one of the best characters in the DCEU. People love her, and I'm looking forward to her returning for more.

I tell u when I started looking a Harly as a "vixen" is when I started going to NYC Comic con and seeing the cosplay not ever from the book material that being said

BOP dropped the ball badly not cause of lack of skin the movie was just awful no wY around it and Robbie was a producer on that so she has to take some blame for thst I thought Gunn finally gave her proper material

Saw TSS in theaters on Saturday! Man, what a ride. Thoroughly loved this movie. Felt like the action, humour, and pacing were all great (didn't understand some complaints about Harley's "love" story being a drag.... it wasn't that long in duration, but whatever). The third act was phenomenal. Really excited for the Peacemaker series now, while simultaneously mourning how poorly WB has messed up this universe. I couldn't help but think about how cool a Batfleck VS Bloodsport scene would be, or what it would be like to see Superman take on Starro. I'll give Gunn credit though, he made me care a ton about some D-level characters.

Yikes. Yikesssssssss. Yikesssssssssssssssssssss. This is.... yikes.

They just want to see some boobs, ok?! IS THAT TOO MUCH TO ASK??

I really enjoy BOP. I get why some may not, but It's fun to me.

Same here. It’s a lot of fun. Some things don’t work (Harley’s attack on that police station is bull****; she would have been shot dead within seconds) but the characters are great and it has an awesome sense of style. TSS is a better movie for sure but BOP is also a worthy film and better than most of the WB’s post-Nolan DC output.

Birds of Prey wasn't awful...but I didn't think it was great either. There were things I enjoyed about it, but ultimately I walked away thinking this would have been way better if the main character was Huntress. Her and Black Canary I loved in the movie. I also wasn't in love with the core plot.

Birds of Prey is one of those movies where the story is meh but one or two performances make it worth watching, and for me that was Robbie and Ewan McGregor.

Ewan Mcgregor was immaculate as Black Mask. He made the movie. You can tell Ewan really sunk his teeth into that role. Easily one of the best cbm villains we’ve seen in recent years. Idk what Yan was thinking killing him off so definitively like that.

This movie was the first in a long time where I really feared for the characters and was worried about them dying. It's not like a lot of comic book movies where most characters have plot armour.

While I didn't love this particular death, it really set the tone for what to expect:

Boomer getting demolished by a helicopter

The only death that bothered me was
Mongal's. Her father could wipe the floor with the JL and she dies from a helicopter crash? Really?

Yeah, I’m not that familiar with
Mongal but unless she’s like 1,000 times less powerful than her dad, she should have been able to take out everyone. Oh well; I kinda look at her death as an Easter egg; Mongul is a D-list Superman villain so his offspring is probably a Z-lister and I doubt anyone outside of hardcore fans like all of us even knows who she is.
