The Suicide Squad: General Discussion and Speculation

That “but this is the DCEU, so…” is so oddly ominous. Lol they’ll be aight. Black Widow is the eleven-hundredth entry into a well-oiled, highly trusted machine. TSS is practically the opposite. Those comparisons are tired. I’m sure they’ve also already taken into account the loss they’re likely to suffer here, but it hasn’t ruined any relationships. Peacemaker and more plans exist now.

If it opened big the same doom and gloom would show up. It's just nature now.

WB knows the score just ignore the bs.

TSS also has HBO Max free streaming to go up against and a poor first film to contend with vs a universe of well received films backing up BW. Can’t really compare on that front, but that said the reception so far to TSS makes it seem like it will be something very memorable. As I mentioned earlier, word of mouth could be quite powerful for it.

Who is watching this tonight? I am soon on HBO Max! So ready.

Yeah. I haven’t seen the film yet but the near universal praise tells me that the only people who will be hating on this film are people who just loathe Gunn in general and maybe some diehard #SnyderIsTheOnlyThingThatMatters crazies. It sounds like he really made a superior film here.

The Suicide Squad was insane and everything I was hoping for. Such a great film and a perfect example of what happens when a director has complete freedom to do what he wants while also understanding the material. Bloodsport, Ratcatcher 2, and of course Harley Quinn were my favorites. Btw Margot was at her best here! She IS that character and im already eager to see her reprise the role again!

Loved it! James Gunn knows how to write or an ensemble cast! Once he is down with Marvel he needs to foresee the entire DCEU!!! The action was on point, the cinematography was amazing, everyone got their moment to shine. Like give me part 3 NEEEOOOEWWWWW! LOL

I liked this movie quite a bit. I don't know if I thought it was best DC film since The Dark Knight, but it was a lot of fun and full of surprises. Definitely will watch this one again. So much better than 2016's garbage they put out

Garbage James Gunn gore fest
Well, it is the suicide squad, and the lead characters are scumbags and murderers and a shark.

Finished watching it Thought it was okay definitely a lot funnier than the first one I’d give it a 7/10

Can you imagine this happening to Black Widow ? Yeah, I can't, but this is DCEU, so...

People will continue to use the first one as a scapegoat but ignore the fact Godzilla vs Kong made almost 100m more than King of the Monsters which was hated and flopped and opened in far worse covid conditions

I'd just like to know one thing...

The team spends damn near the whole movie recklessly killing people, but all of a sudden when Starro gets loose and threatens a country full of innocent people, that's when the Squad grows a conscience?

Wish Bloodsport had that same energy for Supes after putting him in the ICU.

In terms of DCEU films, this is currently battling Wonder Woman for the #1 spot on my list. Already watched it twice haha.

Literally nothing like Paul Dini's version. She's basically female Deadpool although at least Deadpool you can buy because he was a mercenary soldier before becoming Deadpool.

When was Harley ever John Wick with a gun when Paul Dini was writing her?

He meant personality, not shooting skills.

Loved it. Gunn’s directing and the way he handles the characters and ensembles. Great cast, action, cinematography and humor that worked so well for me. Had a blast with this film.

I knew some of the deaths going in but not all so I was surprised a couple of times. Margot gave us her best version of Harley yet (and I think she’s been great as Harley in her previous films). Bloodsport was awesome, Ratcatcher II and Polka Dot Man were great. King Shark was so lovable haha. And damn I think Cena did an excellent job as Peacemaker.

Oh and again as with Gunn’s GOTG films the music choices and use of them I thought was great.
