The Superman Suit thread!

The suit isn't perfect, but I think you guys are being a little harsh.

I think a better promo pic would've made a big difference, these desaturated blue tinted promo photos we keep getting for film and tv shows baffle me, they're consistently the opposite of flattering for any character not named Batman.

I don't disagree. For that to be our very first look at the character, it's disappointing.

Uaergh. Just thinking about a Batman series on the CW makes me shudder with fear.

Well then I guess it's a good thing we're not getting one and have never been given any indication that we would. :o

By the new gods and the old, I indeed hope we never will.
Just imagine all.that.LEATHER.

Oh Gawd, the endless whining about the leather with you people. Aside from possibly the cape and the boots, it doesn't even look like there's any leather on the Superman costume.

Well, whatever they end up with can't possibly be as bad as ... whatever the hell this is....

But if they don't constantly s*** on the shows then how are they supposed to show excitement for the films? :o

They're probably running out of leather after designing all those Flash and GA costumes. :o

The bodysuit is fine, I like the shield and the boots are OK... I guess. I hate the cape attachment, I don't like the belt and the neckline is too open for his build. I'm sure it will look better in motion, but still. Not that good.

I tried adding Superman from the JL promo pic. I'm not very good at this (I had to create part of his arm and hand), but you get the idea. BTW... Yes, CW loves their leather costumes, but the costumes on Supergirl aren't made out of leather (except for the cape and boots, obviously).

I can't help but think that we've been spoiled by the movies. I don't think the SG costume is bad by any reasonable standard. Hell, compared to the costumes the network usually churns out, it's almost a miracle that it looks as good as it does.

Actually, now that I really look at it, I think the belt does look pretty out of place I bet if they had made the lines on his suit red like they did with Kara's that the way all of the lines slope down toward the belt and it would make it so the belt didn't look so out of place.

Agreed, he makes Tyler look like a Supershrimp, although to be fair he does have a little help from a muscle suit which it seems Tyler does not have the benefit of.

To be fair he has a lot of help from the muscle suit. The two suits are going for different designs. The JL is attempting to mimic visible human (or Krypton) anatomy, the CW suit is sort of just going for the leather protection look, sort of Netflix DD like.

I would argue against it helping him to the extent you are suggesting, I think that is 90% Henry as recent pics and gifs of cavil show him to be pretty massive.

Yeah Henry is a big guy but that's lost visually if the suit is not designed to specifically showcase that as is the case with Cavil's suit.

Tyler Hoechkin is not a small guy btw:

So his suit is obviously doing nothing at all to even try to portray at least his natural musculature.

Movie costume wins.

The TV costume looks kinda ok. I like the material and the colors. The chest symbol obliterates the DCEU one... but holy ****, some of the details almost ruin it. The belt looks awful; it makes his torso look like a cylinder. The cape looks extremely flat and rigid.

It's basically the rebirth suit with some small changes.

I think it is more accurate to say it is a fusion of elements of the new 52 superman suit, unique elements like the cape clasps among other things, with the DCEU suit serving somewhat as a base for inspiration judging based on the material look they went for. As for it being the Rebirth suit, to me the rebirth suit looks like it was based on the DCEU suit (plus some elements from his first introduction 1938 suit if the blue boots mean anything), as is often the case when such an effective and awesome trunkless design is created.

Padding is a necessity. People can b**** about padding in superhero costumes all they want, but at least it gives an actual appearance of shape.

Exactly. Actors getting buff for Superhero roles these days is more about them looking good for their shirtless scenes than actually being needed to look good in the suit.

Either way Cavill looks so much more muscular than Tyler in their respective suits due to the design of the suits period.

Because Kara is already wearing a red skirt, it feels kinda weird that Superman doesn't have any red trunks when standing next to her.
