I don't really care if a movie has a huge cultural impact. It just needs to tell its story. Saying that Superman's death in BvS and subsequent return in JL has no cultural impact isn't really a slight against the actual stories of the films.

I'm not saying it has no cultural impact. I'm saying it carries no weight because the death is done far too early in his journey and it doesn't resonate as well. And because we already knew that JL was happening and he was returning the tension was seriously undercut.

His death happened at a good time in my eyes. Everyone was questioning his motives. He was questioning if the world needed him. He decided it did and died saving it. Could've honestly just been one film if not for all of the MoS callbacks. I don't think his death was supposed to carry any weight beyond how it affected the characters in the film. I mean, even the film itself makes it clear he's not actually dead. We weren't, as audience members ever supposed to think he was gone for good. We're just supposed to feel for the characters that do.

Iunno, like I always knew Bucky would come back, but that still carried weight because of how it affected Cap. And he was pretty boss when he returned. I remember the Flash series had an ep where it seemed like Barry died. The preview for the next ep showed he hadn't. Same sorta deal for me.

I certainly hope that if this is suggestive of a black suit (regardless if the suit in the pic is truly b/w or not), that a black suit is not the only one for Supes and that the JL teaser pic of the whole team is more accurate to the final product. If not, I think it would make the whole team look dark by comparison what with Bats and Borg already rocking the black and grey look (with a splash of red).

Batman retired at the end of TDK after being active for what, a little over a year? He saved a city once and stopped a terrorist; superman saved the entire planet twice and died trying. In terms of disappearance I'd say Superman's is much more culturally significant.

Nah. No upgrades. More like he has so many powers and he doesn't know that he has them or how to use them voluntarily. Some of them have to be "powered on" or "booted up".
