They are great, the hush story line got me back into collecting batman again, check it out rene

Thanks guys... here I am at work and I can't keep from crying about this.

Either eventuality is awful, but if someone poisoned him my faith in mankind will take a serious hit...

I'm a pretty trusting soul, but for someone to stoop to that I cannot even imagine.

It would probably be one of my neighbors and if that is the case it makes me doubly glad to be finally leaving this stinky cow town far behind me for good. Anyone who would do that to an innocent dog intentionally doesn't deserve the air that they breathe.

He's such a great dog, like your cat was. He'll play until he can't anymore... Even with how sick he is he still loves to get a back scratch and even wagged his tail when the vet came in to look at him this morning.

I really hope he pulls through. Nobody that full of love and life deserves what he is going through.

Thanks for the kind words, it means a lot.

I hope he pulls through okay trip, he's a beautiful dog :)

How is he this morning, triplet?

Well, good news... He's doing much better.

What happened was that the results from the test that would "definitively" prove whether my poor dog had that rare blood disease was inconclusive. :sigh:

So, we decided to give him a chance and told the vet to go ahead and treat him for some of the other possibilities. She was skeptical they would work, but the blood disease is very rare and since none of the tests were conclusive, we were cautiously optimistic about doing the other treatments and he's feeling much better today. (He's getting vitamin K, antibiotics and steroids.) So, he definitely doesn't have that blood disease because those treatments wouldn't have helped him if he did.

They still don't know for sure what caused his blood clotting problem, there are about three possibilities aside from DIC (the blood disorder, I don't remember what that stands for) but he'll continue the other treatments for about a week. I'm not sure when he's coming home yet, but I think it will only be in another day or so.

I'm so relieved.

Thanks to everyone for all the support.

:D

YAY! That is wonderful news! Now your dog needs to come home now so we can have a party! :D

Well, all riiiiight!!! ^5!

That's treatment for rat poisoning. You might want to "innocently" ask you neighbors if they've recently had a rodent problem or if they've discarded old rat poisoning within the last few weeks. Watch their reactions to the question. You can learn a lot by what people don't say.

After you pup pulls through, you can rename him.
"Krypto," "Clarky," and "Lex" come to mind LOL.

I'm so glad we can joke about this now. :)

I'm really glad he's feeling better! I hope it clears up completely very soon.

Thanks, he's not out of the woods yet...

He'll probably be at the vets at least one more day, if not two, as long as he keeps improving. But the vet said he was wagging his tail this morning and his appetite has returned somewhat...

I'll go see him later this afternoon.

Bad news... He had come home yesterday, the posts regarding that were deleted, but he's had a relapse.

This time his brain was affected, the vet thought he was either suffering from a clot in the brain or a bleed in the brain. There's nothing left to try, so we had to put him down.

He was only a year and a half old and he was a wondeful dog. Full of life and loving...

I'm devastated. The whole family is.

I'm devastated. The whole family is.

For a dog that was destined to only live for a year and a half, he was lucky to have spent that short time with such a wonderful family that loved him so much ..

You know how I feel already, but again, hugs to all of you.

Thanks, I just can't stop crying...

I'm not sure what I'll do... The whole family moving to florida without me thing would have been made easier if he was here with me and now he's not. I'm devastated but it's still so fresh...

I'm sure I'll feel better tomorrow, but he was such a wonderful dog. At least he isn't suffering now.

His last few hours were so awful, he was disoriented and couldn't eat or drink and he'd even lost his vision. He was confused and probably scared too.

Putting him down was the best, and the hardest thing, we could do...

So, I'm sitting here getting slowly drunk and watching Smallville while my family sleeps upstairs... My way of trying to forget, for a little while anyway.

Thanks for the kind words. I did love him so much, he loved us so purely and with such joy.

Thing was, he seemed like he was close to being back to normal just this morning... he was playing and wagging his tail, and then this afternoon he declined so quickly, he was on death's door only a few hours later....

At least we knew him for the time we did. He was such a great dog. So smart and so loving.

I'm not sure I'll ever meet another one like him ever again...

I'm so sorry to hear of your sad news, I do hope you are feeling much better today. I know what it is like to be away from family in a time of need.

Try to focus on the joy that he brought to you and your family's life. :)

Getting drunk and watching Smallville.... I think we could be good friends. :)

Oh, triplet, I'm so sorry to hear it. :( I've been there, and it hurts like crazy. But it gets easier in time to focus on the good memories. You're in my prayers.

Well, they haven't gone yet... it's complicated. My husband got this huge pay increase (50% increase over what he'd been making here) for this new job in Pensacola. But we have a house that might not sell quickly, the average listing time for houses in this area is 8 months, and I have a job that pays pretty well so they're leaving me behind until the house sells.

As good as his new salary will be, it's not enough to afford two houses...So, I will keep working until this house sells and then I can join them and just be a housewife for awhile... I might not even worry about getting a job right away.

But the new job is in Pensacola... :sigh: There may not be a whole lot of options in what kind of house we will be able to get that is still standing.

Luckily, Dennis has weakened to a catagory 3.

I'm trying, it's hard though with all his toys and little reminders around the house.

I'm extremely sorry Triplet, I know how hard it is to lose a pet, its definitely like losing a best friend. You do whatever you need to, to ease your pain. Sometimes little things like Smallville to make you smile help alot

Wow! That is complicated. When we moved here to the States, I decided that I "needed" to become a housewife, and I'm loving it. Me time, after all these years.

You go girl!

I hope the house sells quicker than 8 months. Could you rent it out?

oh trip I'm really sorry :( I had gotten excited on your last posts that said he was getting better. I really feel for you, he looked like such a happy puppy, and I'm fighting back the tears from my all too familiar recent experience as I type this... Things like this never make sense. But you've shown that you truly are a loving and caring person by letting Leko go and not wanting him to suffer. As a pet owner, that truly is the ultimate sign of love. I really believe people like us are chosen because we made our pets short times on this Earth the best they could have possibly been. It hurts very bad at first, but I have begun to take solace in the fact that I made my cats short time here, the best any cat could ask for. I can tell by your posts that you've done the ame for your puppy.. I know your Leko, and my Mickey are in a better place now where they no longer hurt anymore and happily await the time when they'll be with us again.....

Thanks Hulk, I'm sure you're right.

I'm am infinitely sad today....

I guess I should be grateful that as terrible as his last hours were he was happy yesterday morning. He shook himself like dogs do and wagged his tail and even played with one of his chew toys before he started to decline, so it was good he was home for that.

He wouldn't have had that at the vets.

He was a very happy dog and I'm sure when I see him again, he'll run around me in pure joy at seeing me again like he used to do.

I can't tell you how much everyone's kind words have meant to me.

Sharing grief helps, so I'm appreciative.

It is good that he had that. It's comforting to have them happy right up to the end -- comforting for him and for you.

This is an interesting article, although it is entirely off-topic...

Anyone here planning on seeing Burton's blasphemous rendition of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory?

I'm not. That whispery, high pitched voice that Depp decided to use (he has described as a cross between kid show host's - ala Mr. Rogers - and a game show host's) drives me up a frickin' wall! Whenever I hear him as Wonka, I cringe.... I don't think I could take 2 hours of that voice.

Personally, I will proably spend the weekend reading my brand new copy of Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince so this film (or any other) wouldn't be getting any dough from me in any case... So maybe Warner's has a right to worry.

;)

When "Harry" Met "Charlie"
By Josh GrossbergTue Jul 12, 5:59 PM ET

Will Harry steal Charlie's golden ticket at the cash register?

That's the tantalizing new question gripping Hollywood now that the great box-office slump has been busted. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, J.K. Rowling's sixth installment in her mega-selling magic boy franchise, arrives in bookstores at the same time Warner Bros. is unspooling Tim Burton's update of Roald Dahl's kids classic Charlie and the Chocolate Factory hits movie theaters.

Warners execs have good cause for hand wringing. The heavily hyped Half-Blood Prince goes on sale at 12:01 a.m. Saturday with more fanfare than all the previous Potter books combined.

Rowling's U.S. publisher, Scholastic, has ordered a record-setting initial print run of 10.3 million copies of the 672-page tome, and booksellers nationwide are gearing up to host Midnight Magic Parties. The buzz is so great that book chain Barnes & Noble plans to celebrate the landmark release with Potter gatherings at more than 670 of its outlets, according to PotterParties.com.

And both the book and the movie target the same family-friendly demo.

While it's hard to compare rival media like books and movies, especially with differing price points, recent history has shown that Harry has some serious sales magic no matter the competition.

The fifth chapter, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, was released in 2003. Retailing for $30, it sold a whopping 5 million copies its first 24 hours. That $150 million in first-day grosses for Scholastic far surpassed that revenue generated by the weekend's blockbuster movie opening: Universal's The Hulk, which took in $62 million in its three-day debut weekend.

"It's an interesting concept that people even acknowledge that the Potter books are so popular that they have an effect on other media," says Paul Dergarabedian, president of box-office tracking firm Exhibitor Relations. "But that said, the people who want to see Charlie and the Chocolate Factory will see Charlie. There's plenty of time for both."

Dergarabedian believes that Charlie has a built-in audience of those adults who grew up with Dahl's book and the 1971 adaptation, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, who are now parents who want take their children to see it.

Then there's the Johnny Depp factor, says Gitesh Pandya, editor of BoxOfficeGuru.com. The Oscar-nominated actor, whose quirky take on Willy Wonka sparked talk in recent days over whether he based the candy man on Michael Jackson, is a big draw for cinephiles who enjoyed his previous collaborations with Burton (see Edward Scissorhands and Ed Wood).

"You have two giant audiences [the filmmakers] are tapping into," Pandya tells E! Online, "the family audience that loves all those lavish effectsand the audience which loves to see Tim Burton and Johnny Depp together."

Both Dergarabedian and Pandya conclude that Harry won't dent Charlie's box office. Traditionally, they say, competition among various media hasn't stopped moviegoers from flocking to the megaplex because people can usually squeeze both events into a weekend.

"If you look at past history, Disney and DreamWorks tend to fight it out a lot," explains Pandya, "so you'll see Shrek 2 come out on DVD the same day The Incredibles hit theaters. You might think people will stay home for the weekend and watch Shrek 2, but The Incredibles grosses $70 million its opening weekend."

Adds Dergarabedian: "You can counterprogram a book or video to a movie opening, but once people make a decision to go see that movie, they'll do that--and buy whatever competing property is out there. To me [the Half-Blood Prince] is less problematic than two movies chasing the same audience."

That's one thing Warners won't have to worry about. The only other big release this weekend targets a more adult audience, not families: The Wedding Crashers, starring Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson. The R-rated film is being released by New Line, which also happens to be owned by Time Warner, parent company of Warner Bros.

Besides, Warners owns the movie rights to all the Harry Potter books. (The next celluloid installment, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, based on the fourth of Rowling's books, is due out in November.)

Meanwhile, as fans around the globe get ready for a return to Hogwarts, Harry's publishers are casting a dark spell over anyone who attempts to spill Half-Blood Prince's secrets before Saturday.

Rowling's Canadian publisher, Raincoast Books Ltd., revealed that several copies of the penultimate adventure were sold by a store in Vancouver and it has since gone to court to obtain an injunction barring those buyers from disclosing any tidbits about the plot. As an incentive, the publisher also promises that those who return the title before the on-sale date will receive book plates autographed by the celebrated author.
