Cool article. I think it might have an effect alot of bookstores have midnight parties etc.. and alot of kids won't want to be interrupted till they've completed it to be dragged to a movie. I don't have any desire to see it except fot the fact they trained 40 squirrels to sit on stools, crack open nuts and lay them on a conveyor belt. I have to see at least that sceen at some point.

Yeah, I like the way the author of that article was trying to be optimistic about opening night. I'm sure the HP release will have a big (deleterious) affect on the opening of Charlie....they should have thought of that earlier. Someone was sleeping in the board meeting when they decided on the release date of that movie--Johnny Depp factor, or not. I grew up with the Charlie book and first movie, and although the re-adaptation of it may be interesting, I can always rent the Gene Wilder version on video or read the book to some kid I think might get a kick out of it....as for the Harry Potter release partie(s)....even for an adult like me it sounds like goofy fun, and I'm looking for a kid or two to borrow to take to one. Never mind the movie...it'll wait. What was Warner's thinking?

Don't know, but I wish I did 'cause I ask that question every day.

Wait... what thread are we in? I'm losing track. :p

Seems that a trend is developing, don't it? :p

Speaking of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory...

When I asked my 8-year old daughter if she'd like to see that movie, she crinkled her nose and said, "No mom!" as if it was such a ridiculous question in the first place. Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't she the age of the target audience? Or are they going for the teenagers? I just thought that was a perfect testament to how bizarre the previews come across; even to the children.

I'll keep the original version close to my heart. I loved that movie when I was younger...still do, it's a classic.

So, for those of you who remember me complaining about my job and Evil Lex Luthor wannabe boss, I have good news. I got a new job and I start the 22nd. Its a weekend job, 3 days a week, 36 hours, get paid for 40, optional overtime and I make more then I do here. In my opinion, its easy work. The best part is, I have 4 days off a week now, and Ill be able to use that time to work on things important to me like my art. So, Im happy now.

Congrats on the new job and you suck for only working 3 days a week

I still love watching that movie. Gene Wilder was a perfect Willie Wonka. I don't begrudge remakes, and sometimes it's great to see all the special effects updated. I want to see the new one, but Depp look more creepy than anything else. My daughter has already said that there's "no way" she's going to see it.

Great news, DZ! Personally, I think the best part is that you now have time to persue your art even more. I hope you don't forget to share some of your new stuff. :)

Great news, DZM! I know you were miserable in that other job...

:D

Thanks everyone and yes NHAWK, I do suck cuz of that :) Im excited to have 4 days off to work on things that make me happy.

Bad news... He had come home yesterday, the posts regarding that were deleted, but he's had a relapse.

This time his brain was affected, the vet thought he was either suffering from a clot in the brain or a bleed in the brain. There's nothing left to try, so we had to put him down.

He was only a year and a half old and he was a wondeful dog. Full of life and loving...

I'm devastated. The whole family is.
I am deeply sorry Cindy :( I know what its like to lose a close pet, a member of the family.

thats awesome to hear. I have a bit of similar news myself.

Last week my company filed Chapter 7 bankruptcy out the middle of nowhere. I was lucky to have cashed my final check before the whole company went kaput. So I've basically been out of work since last Friday. (why I havent been around here a lot lately) Luckily I had an interview lined up with Comcast on Wednesday and it went well. They called me back today at about 4:30 and are making me an offer that's, get this, $5k more than I was making before plus they have 100 times better benefits, one of which is free cable and internet access. I'm supposed to be getting in writing tomorrow, and if it looks okay, I'll accept and be working there by the 25th....

Comcast, right? When you get all settled in and comfy and stuff, can ya give a shout to your compatriots in Boston? Woburn, to be specific. They STILL don't offer SV in HD here. Can you say, livid? Gah!!!

Comcast, huh? So you're who I need to call when my cable modem goes down in the middle of the day and I'm kicking things left and right. (The cat goes into hiding).

I'll remember that. ;)

ok, so this is my last week at work and im not really doing anything. So Im trying to send myself pics to use as desktops for my phone. I tried downloading some from supermanhomepage's site, I could see them, but not download them (maybe they were he wrong shape for my phone) I could get the ringtones, but not pics. Anyone have any idea how to download pics from your phone? I can send the emails to it, but I have no idea how Im supposed to actually download it.

do you not have a WB HD channel there? Thats odd because all locales should have CBS, NBC, ABC, FOX, WB, UPN, and ESPN in HD by now. I'll have to check on that one

Apparently not. I've looked too, unless it's "hidden" somewhere. If you find out one way or another, lemme know. I was going to call them a few weeks before the season premiere to complain. It really does bug me. It's pretty much the only thing on broadcast television that I watch besides an occasional baseball or football game.

Ooooh, Huuulk!
My cable modem went down again late last night. Aren't you the new Comcast Cable Guy around here???
;)

Hmmm. Well, here's an article (extremely conservative in nature, so venture at your own risk  ) about Lois Lane and how women's portrayal in the Superman-verse has changed through the years in a negative way:

http://www.americanchronicle.com/articles/viewArticle.asp?articleID=1243

I seriously roll my eyes at a LOT of that nonsense, but there's a few points that do ring true. And without getting too political (never talk religion or politics in an open forum - you're only asking for trouble) it DOES make me wonder how SR will be received by the right wing when it unspools. Of course, if I'm correct and the reveal at the end of the film is that the kid is really Superman's, well I guess that will quell the general public. In all honestly, I'll be SHOCKED if it's not.

Anyhoo, thought it was an interesting read, even if I disagree with most of it.
