It's good, I'll give you that. But the best? I think not. :o

It's the best that's on until Earth's Mightest Heroes comes back I'll give it that. :o
i think young avengers could give earth mightiest a run for its money once it hits its stride

but it's a good year for animation me thinks, can't wait for ultimate spiderman to join the rosta as well

I just really liked Root's voice for the Drifter and the way he would just float around. Somewhat odd. The character was almost like a more abstract idea and I thought that was interesting.

I did like that this episode opened up the world of Third Earth more. Lion-O tries using Thunderan currency, but it's worthless now. This also gives an idea about other societies and people on Third Earth and their view of Thundera. It is clear the swordsman village knew about Thundera and Thunderan currency as well as Thundera's downfall. The Duelist and other swordsmen were well versed in the Sword of Omens.

Siby, you make some good points about the Sword of Omens. And I like those ideas about the Sword sort of having a mind of its own and not allowing itself to be used against other Thundercats or for frivolous purposes. But this show is still its own thing at the end of the day and there will be some tweaking. We know the Eye of Thundera has the spell to ward off evil like Mumm-Ra. But the Thundercats society weren't exactly choir boys either.

I was surprised to see Lion-O able to use the Sword of Omens for frivolous things like cutting that slab of stone and dueling the Duelist. I remember in the original series the sword refused to be used for inane purposes.
Well, it was to help Lion-O win money to buy supplies for his fellow Thundercats.
Siby, it wasn't necessarily inane to do the contest because Lion-O competed in order to win money and get supplies for his friends. So it was a noble goal.

But in a way, the Sword of Omens didn't really work or show its true power in the sword fight. Plus Lion-O had not really been all that good of a sword fighter before. He just sort of got by with the sword's power and brute strength.
Exactly. On top of that, Lion-O has relied on the fact that he's wielding the Sword of Omens and his confidence as well to give him an advantage.
That last part kind of made the climax fall apart for me, really. One doesn't just miraculously develop amazing swordsmanship because some washed-up old rabbit mutters a few platitudes. Kind of awkward. But I guess you could chalk it up to Lion-O actually having learned proper swordsmanship on some level but suppressing his true skill with his recklessness and impatience. That's what I'm telling myself so it makes sense, anyway.
He didn't miraculously become an amazing swordsman, he learned to not just attack head on and to use grace. Clearly, letting the duelist keep attacking to the point of frustration was his downfall and Lion-O used that to his advantage in order to disarm him.
I thought it was kind of silly how Lionel just suddenly had the skills to take down the Duelist after having a talk with the Drifter but the fact is that as a prince, he was trained in combat and all he had to do was clear his mind and use those skills.
I think Lion-O was trained in basic combat, but has improved greatly in his battles. The lesson was to be confident in himself, and not just the power of a weapon.

I liked the Drifter. He was clearly meant to be a take on Hanzo. The character was very interesting in how relaxed to the point he literally drifted with the wind and at the same time he was a very powerful swordsman who could dominate if he so chose, but he had no interest in that, or much of anything.

nothing....matters...

What show or movie is this from? It looks cool.

Wasn't the Drifter's name Hattori or something similar before he became the Drifter?

That was my very first thought when I heard the name of the sword, Hittanzo. If you remove the 'itt', you get "Hanzo".

Yeah, Hattori Hanzo. ;)

They took his first and last names and combined it. That pretty much sealed it for me.

I like him enough to co-op him for an avatar, for now.

Considering your nick is Panthro, pretty much an entire episode was dedicated to the backstory of Panthro/Grune. You should've noticed that.
And that was a very good episode, one of the best so far. I'm aware that we're only about 7 eps in, but the next time they take a detour it'd be nice to see some focus go to either Tygra or Cheetara. Or Slythe for that matter.

That picture is of Owl Man from the Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths animated movie.

Originally it was a script meant to be a sort of bridge between Justice League and JLU. But then it got re-worked to be one those newer DCAU movies.

EDIT

Reminder for everyone, the show will be going on a six week break and new episodes will come back with the debut of the first volume of the show on DVD.

Also, first ever Power/ThunderCon in just a couple of weeks as well.

Its going on a six week break?? Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

Back to the last episode, I enjoyed it but I felt Lion-O defeated the duelist a bit too quickly. I was actually expecting the drifter to show him some techniques rather than repeat that line of the willow.

Also I'd like to see some more development of the other cats, I really enjoyed the Tower of Omens episode because it showed each cat contributing in their own unique way to that particular mission. But I do understand that the writers want to show Lion-O growing as a leader

Even though Lion-O didn't use the power of the sword, the sword in the original series would never have allowed itself to be drawn. It would make itself too heavy to wield or get stuck in the claw gauntlet. I think of the sword like a sentient weapon from D&D. They have a purpose to be used towards and some have huge egos that the wielder has to overcome in order to use it against its purpose.
.

The sword did that in the original serie ?

Yes, it did. I seem to recall Jaga appearing and telling Lion-O why the sword wasn't doing what he wanted it to.

I'll try and find out which episode(s) it happened in. My daughter watches it every now and then. She's into Arthur and the Knights of Justice and Jayce and the Wheeled Warriors right now.

I think it is so funny when my kids talk about Blackstar, He-man, Thundercats, or any other show from my childhood to the other kids and they give them a weird look like, "what are you talking about". haha

oh what, a break??? why can't these things get their proper runs, animation is far harsher than normal shows and needs it full run to make it's impact

I think Lion-O had problems with the sword when he became angry at someone and wanted revenge. I do remembering it happening but its been a while since I last saw it.

Blackstar? OMG, you really are hardcore.

allowing your kids to watch proper cartoons from our era may make them unnecessarily epic in comparison to their peers

they will grow weary with the world and end up wanting to kill them all like dr doom.

The genius' at Cartoon Network scheduling strike again.

Six week break?!! Dammit! So they bring back Young Justice and take Thundercats off for a long ass break? Damn you Cartoon Network! Damn you all to hell!:cmad: *pounds fist in the sand*

The sword did that in the original serie ?

yeah. In the second episode of the original, just before mumm-ra transport the mutants to attack lion-o, Lion-o sees a deer, goes 'oh what great hunting', has his sword at the ready to attack the 'innocent' creature and just before he goes to strike, the sword lights up and flys out of his hand and lands in the ground and Lion-o can't pull it free. Jaga appears and he tells him that the sword will only combat evil, not kill an innocent creature.

Good stuff.

Btw... SIX WEEK BREAK? Why? It's on a bloody roll

if they were gonig to take a break, they should have done it after the legacy episode, it felt like a much better conclusion to have a break on and would leave us all hyped

I swear these breaks really hurt the shows for me. I watched a couple of shows last night after a two week break and they didn't have as much oompf to start out with.
