Hey, question for you guys. Was the blind Thundarian in the watchtower the same one we saw in the old series? They introduced three of them together. The old cat, a girl, and a white cat. I'm not calling them Thundercats because in the old show not all Thundarians were Thundercats. To be a Thundercat you had to be royalty or something.

Who else jumped up like a little kid when Lion-O did the classic Thundercats chant?

That was just awesome. And the fact that they did his stances from the original opening was just ****-tastic :D

And the fact we got to hear Claudis, voiced by the original Lion-O, Larry Kenney, shout 'THUNDERCATS, HOOOOO' was just as awesome. I'm sure I could hear his Lion-O in that :D

I'm 100% certain that he was Lynxo.

Also, yeah. From the original show, it was royalty only that could be Thundercats. But you could be initiated in to the Thundercats by the lord himself if he deemed you worthy of the honor. I take it that still applies in this show.

So Lion-O, Claudis, Panthro, Tygra, Groon, Jaga and the clerics (Cheetara is a cleric) are Thundercats.

When Claudaus said

"The book told that it was the Thundercats, our ancestors, who first defeated Mumm-Ra. It was the Thundercats who brought law and order to a world of warring animals."

he meant the species thundercats.

Mumm-ra's been plaguing the thundercats civilization for years.

There was no Panthro 1.0 a thousand years ago.

But there's really no reason there couldn't be, though. It'd be a pretty interesting way of bridging the two series, and I don't see any reason not to at least be able to look at it that way until they directly say otherwise inside the show. The canon between the two would obviously be kind of loose, but still possible.

I apologize if this has already been asked and answered, but it's basically the only thing about the premiere episode that's been bugging me: Why is Tigra not the heir to the throne? He appears to be older and it certainly seems like everyone--including Lion-O, to some extent--actually wants him to be the next king, yet everyone takes it for granted that Lion-O will be instead. Is he supposed to be adopted and thus not a part of the royal blood lineage or something? That would explain why he's a tiger instead of a lion, but I can't recall any clear statement to that effect in the episode.

But otherwise, it was a damn good start to what's looking more and more like it'll be a damn good revamp. I especially liked how the Thundercats were not perfect rulers of a utopian society under Claudus.

Part of me wonders however, is this set in the same reality as the previous Thundercats? I kind of got the feeling that these characters were kind of descendants of the old Thundercats

I had the same feeling as well.

The old Thundercats defeated Mumm-Ra in the distant past.

Colonized Third Earth and banned technology.

Their civilization became decadent and that allowed Mumm-Ra to return.

Tygra is adopted so he can never be king according to Groon, but I've also heard the producers say that only Lions can rule in a article i read on IGN. So either reason I guess is acceptable for Tygra not to be king.

He said something about respecting the bloodline, so maybe he is adopted. I figured that maybe Tigra was born to a tiger mother, so he couldn't be the heir because the Thundercats would always follow a lion like Claudius and Lion-O.

Yeah they mentioned Tygra not being of the bloodline right before he and Lion-O had the duel.

Maaaan, I was ready to throw my remote at my tv when it looked like Panthro pulled the doublecross.
Hopefully he shows up real soon.

i know what you mean. that was the one thing i was like wtf they made panthro a bad guy. glad that isn't the case. overall i like the changes, love the kingdom, so full of cats.

oh and why is lynx-o still the "look" out, dude starts blind in this series, give him a break already. i laughed when he came on screen, i feel sorry for him, especially since he started out blind in this series, lol.

I agree with Gold Samurai. The notion of the old Thundercats (from the original show) being reincarnated is a rather silly concept in my opinion. If they were meant to be linked, it would make more sense to have entirely new and different characters -- not Lion-O 2.0, Pathro 2.0, Cheetara 2.0, etc.

Lynx-O is a better lookout than most of the sighted cats on lookout duty. He was able to smell the lizards coming before anybody even saw them.

I too was thrown for a loop and cursed this show for making Panthro evil. Then he changed and it turned out to be Mum-ra, I was relived. To me Panthro is an integral part of the team given that he makes the Cat's Lair, the totally awesome Thundertank, the flying airplane thingy, and other cool devices.

As for the debate about the original series being the past of this series, I think it could work. At times I thought the narrative led you to believe that that was true. I'd be okay if they went that route.

i was making a joke about lynx-o being blind already. he may have been blind in the old show but they showed him when he had sight on thundera, so we knew he wasn't born blind. so now we get a new show and this is the origin it was weird that he was already blind. i know it's a different take, and i do like it alot, it just made me laugh. also there really is no reasoning behind him being the lookout if he is blind. to someone who is just watching this show for the first time, without having seen the old show it must be confusing. think of it from their stand point. "hm a blind cat is the look out", that is quite strange. im sure later we will see him in action. so far the show is really good.

Lynx-O is in the look out because of his awesome sense of smell. Where is Dread and his reviews of the show? Dread needs to review this show!

This show is off to an awesome start. It is quite possibly the most ambitious animated series in Cartoon Network history.

I also loved Mumm-Ra's tease of the classic incantation only to be shut down. It got a great reaction at Comic-Con.

Also I don't think this show ties into the original Thundercats. I think the showrunners are just building their own world and mythology for the show. I get it in that it's almost like referencing battles long past. It was almost like Claudus was referencing the original 1980's show. But I don't think that will work out like say Beast Wars which was a continuation of Transformers G1 mythology.

I said it before....the trailer alone killed the 80's one.

And now...the first 2 episodes has cemented my prediction.

The 80's one had a bland dialogue and slow pace.

This on the other hand... is PERFECT.

This is what the Thundercats should have been in the first place.

So what if Tygra is Lion-O's adopted brother??

So what if Thundera is not a planet??

So what if Wily Kat and Kit were not part of the royal family in the beginning??

So what if Cheetara might end up with Lion-O instead of Tygra??

Get over it Fanboys!!! This is way better than the original!!! :cwink:

Anways,

This is the best re-vamped 80's show!!!

Hope Bengali and Pumayra shows up later on and Hope Lynx-O survived the attack.

The twins could provide some good underground hiding spots/where to find food.

No one is talking about literal reincarnation, though

In terms of character development and story arcs, hells yeah. It's better than the original. I just hope it keeps going. I love the original Thundercats, but now that i'm older, this is what I want to see. Character growth.

Also, I believe in the comics, it was shown that Tygra was Lion-O's older step brother. So as I knew that was part of Thundercats history, I'm cool with that. I like it in fact.

Thundera not being a planet was a big thing. But, seeing how this show is going in a different direction, being an established kingdom on third earth (is the planet called that?) works brilliantly. These thundercats are not technological like the original show. This is a more 'primal' version of the cats.

But damn, have respect for the original. For if that never was, this new take would never have happened. Also, the way mum-ra was introduced in the original was far darker and better paced than the new one. Oh, killing Claudis was HUGE. It was a wow moment. BUT, I will still say that the original gave me a more chilling and 'scary' introduction to the ever living source of evil.

Both a great shows for different reasons. I will always love the original But I'm very happy with this take. It's just great to see the cats back on tele :D

But, I doubt this show will have a kick ass theme tune. I can't think of another cartoon show that had as good an opening as the original.

Okay, that makes sense. I kind of figured he was adopted, but they could've been a bit clearer about that.

I don't think they could have gotten any clearer than when they said he was adopted. :o

Also there's that glaring difference in.......I guess you would call it race.

They didn't say that, they implied it with an offhand reference about "the bloodline." It was ambiguous, you contrary bastard. :cmad:

Yeah, they definitely never outright said he was adopted. I was a little confused about that too but I guess that "bloodline" reference was enough to assume adoption.

IT WAS STATED YOU OBLIVIOUS FOOL! :argh:
Fie. FIE, I say!

Oh well, at least Panthro wasn't evil. I got kind of pissed when he pulled that knife, but then I was like, "Oh, cool, it's just Mumm-Ra."
