The Thunderbolts* News and Discussion Thread

Sentry looks more marketable to the general public compare to a group of six people wearing monotone clothes except for Red Guardian*

And just because someone's in a cape, it doesn't mean it would translate as a generic superhero movie. The Boys literally has a lead villain with a cape, no one confuses the villain as a superhero, or viewed that show as typical superhero show, because clearly the promos show a different thing*

By that logic, Brave New World should've been a hit. Audiences are no longer as enamored with the superhero concept as they were. In this climate, looking unusual for a superhero movie is better marketing than looking immediately recognizable as a superhero movie, unless you have the nostalgia/fan favorite character factor in your corner (which they don't).

Sentry also isn't the villain they're selling. 'Bob' appears to be part of the team and everyone is pretty obviously going to be shocked he is also the Void. So if the trailers did focus more on him that would mean showing him as a classical superhero helping the team and fighting the Void, which would absolutely make the trailers feel more like your average superhero movie.

I hope Yelena gets a new costume at some point

It looks like such a generic black flight suit
I'm fine with it being a little looser fit to give her more mobility, but do something to make it more interesting

lol toy companies crack me up.

“Oh, you wanted to maintain some secrecy for your film…? Well, ANYWAY—”
Marvel secrecy ain't what it used to be. They probably told Hasbro it was fine. After all, they blatantly plastered Red Hulk all over the Brave New World marketing when that's something that probably should have been saved for the movie and they also basically spoiled Thunderbolts last week with the Doomsday cast announcement.

Okay, you are confusing what i said. I didn't flat out say superhero costumes guarantee being a hit. In this scenario though, Thunderbolts* plastering Sentry everywhere would help the marketing, as I don't think Thunderbolts is gonna come close to what Brave New World is getting at the box office.

The movie literally has no hype, after two trailers*

Plastering Sentry everywhere would be more likely to hurt than help.

Sentry is no Thor. Nobody knows him, it would just confuse regular moviegoers. Their strategy is good, is built around mystery. The entire marketing campaign for Thunderbolts* has been interesting, different.

I really hope, if this movie is as good as it looks, that it does well at the box office

Its one thing when its a mediocre movie like Brave New World or Quantumania
But for a good Marvel movie to fail would be a major red flag that Marvel's run of dominance is truly over

If I had a penny for every time the Marvel movies were dead or, ruined…

The Thunderbolts made their entrance at Cinemacom. Looks like the cast had fun doing this movie and love the focus on on-location, stunts and practical effects. I also like the mystery surrounding Sentry and how they have kept his appearance in the dark, a stark contrast from Red Hulk. Hoping this movie succeeds, it's definitely my most anticipated project in the MCU - along with The Punisher special. This movie is going to crush it!

The general public didn't know Guardians, Ant-Man and Shang-Chi either before their first movie came out.

We'll see in a month, if hiding Sentry in the marketing works out*

It’s not as if Sentry is the worlds most popular, Superhero.
Not a lot of people outside of forums like these have heard of him.

I know that was only a minute of BTS footage but I do like that not every single background in this movie is going to be green screen. Like they’re actually on tangible sets :weeping: .

Well, the congressman Bucky news makes me happy. Still weird in the first place, though.

Guardians was riding the Avengers wave, MCU wasn't missing at that time. They gave us another team and still had a stone in their movie.

Ant-Man did well enough in the BO but I still know people that have skipped the Ant-Man movies not viewing them as important. It was the 1st movie after Age of Ultron and ending phase 2 so it got boost from those.

Shang Chi first MCU movie post Endgame in the world and theaters were just opening back up after a pandemic.

Thunderbolts* is riding no waves, not setup by any previous movies and not expected to set up any future movies since F4 is doing that.
This movie can be good but I don't think casuals are going to run and see it or watch on stream unless in Avengers Doomsday or Secret Wars there was a link in Thunderbolts* that made you have to see it.

Tickets apparently go on sale this Monday 4/7
on Fandango they have times showing and 2pm showings look to be the earliest on 5/1

I got so excited by on set shooting that I forgot about Florence’s stunt. Incredible work Ms Pugh :wowe:.

Dude was a Congressman for like two minutes, and they don't explore it at all. A pointless, stupid, and unbelievable subplot that made no sense. All of it happened off-screen.

They definitely set that up in BNW to expand on it more in Thunderbolts since the latter is more Bucky's movie, though honestly a subplot about Bucky being elected to Congress would have fit better in a Captain America movie than a couple of Hulk villains. :o
