The Tobey Maguire/Peter Parker Thread

I think he is a great actor who has given a very strong and memorable interpretation of Peter Parker that at least in this decade would be hard to replace for general audiences....but I would not call him the perfect Peter Parker or nearly definitive. But a good interpretation that works, especially in the first one.

I agree wholeheartedly on that! He was a very memorable Peter. Maybe not THE most perfect. It remains to be seen whether anyone else proves good enough to fill his shoes. But I'm open-minded enough to think it's possible.

You think TMags stayed in good shape? No way, man. He was in great shape for sm1 but sm2 and 3, he was out of it.

Oh yeah. He was real fat...

LOL.

Tobey was in good enough shape for SM2 and SM3 IMO, he didnt look fat, and we mostly couldnt tell whether he was ripped or not, except for that one shot in Spidey 2.

But the main thing is, his acting was spot on, especially in 2 and 3.

Tobey was in good shape for all three films. He's not fat at all and if you don't believe me, then look at his stomach in Spidey3 when his shirt is ripped.

Well he was certainly very muscular for a guy of his frame and size in SM1 and had more of a wirey lean look which also worked in SM2 (due to doing Seabiscuit right befhore hand where he had to get down to jockey weight). In SM3 he got in shape by losing a lot of...excess mass he gained on vacation time, but the muscle definition for the fanboys who stare and pause at the shots of his ripped shirts and put them online freeze framed isn't up to snuff. But for the rest of us who don't obsess over it, we would never have noticed it anyway.

Tobey was in good enough shape, I don't expect him to look exactly like Spider-Man as far as muscle goes.

Well, he looked the part to me, and thats what counts, there was barely a scene in the last 2 movies were you could notice whether he was buffed or not anyway.

And lets face it, it doesnt matter, only his performance matters to me, and IMO, his performances were fantastic.

Of course his performance matters but he shouldn't be fat either which he wasn't. He was perfect as Peter Parker/Spider-Man. Along with James Franco, his performance improved throughout the franchise.

Agreed, I knew he was the perfect Peter Parker/Spider-Man when I saw the first film. Right then and there, I was attached to that Peter Parker/Spider-Man and he did an amazing job in all of the Spidey films.

i dont really care for muscle definition....really, in SM3, he was a bit chubby, and you can tell by the fat under his chin and his more bloated appearance while in the suit.

Are talking about during and after the airial battle he had with harry? If you are, his body was that of a normal person who doesn't work out. If you're talking about the scenes where he's taking off the symbiot, the parts where you see his body(skin) from the front was actually CG...(the same way they cg'd his body in sm1 before he collapses onto the floor in his room):o

I'm not saying muscles is THE most important thing ut lets face it, spider-man has muscles and is toned. If the guy playing the role is getting $20million for it, I expect to be convinced.....and yes, performance does matter too and imo, the performance was horrible and that's mainly because of the script Maguire had to work with.

oh yea, i remebered he was wearing something blue where they were shooting in the bell tower

Yes, that's correct. I saw this during the specials on the dvd.

I was talking about after the airial battle he had with Harry. Sure he was in normal shape, but personally, I'm fine with it. As long as he's not fat and he cearly isn't.

Well you won't see Christian Bale looking like he hasn't worked out in The Dark Knight...but not everyone can do a Christian Bale I guess...

Tobey not only plays an amazing Peter Parker/Spider-Man, but he's also an amazing actor in general. He was fantastic in Seabiscuit, Pleasantville, The Good German, etc.
