The Tobey Maguire/Peter Parker Thread

He's getting that now but surely Sony is smart enough to put caps on it. With in excess of 2 billion dollars raked in thus far from these Spidey movies, please tell me how that a single actor's compensation, no matter how large, could possibly bleed the franchise dry?
I personally would rather that the money go to the betterment of the franchise. I think the point here is, they could find another good actor to fill the shoes of Peter/Spider-Man without dishing out the huge bucks to Maguire. And the face of Spider-Man is Spider-Man not Maguire. In short, it's unnecessary money that would be taking from the box office/DVDs/merchandising/Budget, when it need not be so. That's what I meant by bleeding the franchise.

Jack Nicholson still gets millions from every Batman film ever made, even Batman Begins and The Dark Knight. It's written that he made the best written contract deal in Hollywood history. This is how desperate WB wanted Jacky. I don't think Sony is as stupid as Warner Bros., but whether Maguire returns or not will have a lot more to do with money, and less to do with the script. Remember, Spider-Man made Maguire, not the other way around.

:whatever: First of all you trivialise such a gruelling work out then you claim you can do it a couple times a day...lmao! I hope you're being facetious.:o

You want a really gruelling workout? Try doing an Arnold workout by reading what his training regimens used to be. That workout is not all that difficult, especially since one muscle is somewhat resting as you do another exercise. The only reason why it's gruelling to you is probably because you were never that strong to begin with. :o

I understand your point. I myself would even prefer that if Maguire did come back that it was for reasonable, even lower compensation and because he felt he wasn't finished with the role and had something more to contribute to his character's arc - not to add more millions to his -aire. I really admire actors who do work for the love of the work rather than for the pay, like Clooney doing Good Night and Good Luck for $1 just because he wanted that film to get made. I hope someday that Maguire could be there - to do a film for nothing because he loves it so much. But as of now he has agents to pay, a production company to fund, and there is unfortunately a perception of worth attached to A-list actors whereby industry standards foster the pursuit of ridiculous sums and supply and demand sustains it. Given that I bust my ass 80 hours a week for nominal pay, it's all ridiculous to me anyway. I still think that at this point in Tobey's career, his film choices are not going to made based on dollars and cents but rather quality. He's not the bankable star based on public movie star persona. He's bankable due to the quality of the projects he selects. And he's in the acting profession for the long haul, not to rake in as much as he can now and hope it lasts him a lifetime. There's still his credibility as a serious talent to protect and I think given the harsh criticism of SM3 that Tobey will really think long and hard about continuing in the franchise, no matter what they offer him.

but whether Maguire returns or not will have a lot more to do with money, and less to do with the script. Remember, Spider-Man made Maguire, not the other way around.

I disagree. But that's just my very strong opinion on that subject based on all I know about the history of Tobey Maguire. To each his own way of thinking.

we know spidey made maguire and he's very thankful to sony and sam
for giving him the opportunity to play spidey
coz he's not the typical superhero he's nerdy and quiet
just what they need for spider-man
but IMO tobey is a great spidey and peter parker
and I want to see him return for the next trilogy :woot:

To be honest, I think this workout would only be hard if you're someone who doesn't work out regularly.

Yeah, that's what I meant. Someone who is just working out and jumping into it could seriously hurt themselves in the process.

:whatever: I was benching 120 at the age of 18.:o

What size weight dumbells you lifting and how many reps you do?:o

Exactly! It is a killer workout and only underscores my previous comment about it. Wait, you do this 6 days a week??:wow: :wow:

Monday thru Saturday.

Usually in the mornings; and then during the summer, it gets hella hot.

Edit: Extra cardio too since the workout only has the box jumps, so I do cycling too, plus boxing and a couple miles around my ex-high school's football field, and some extra sit-ups and push-ups for the hell of it.

LMAO! Ohhhh look who's steamed. I'm guessing I might as well consider the above response a rather fitting summation of your intended post. :oldrazz:

Not quite.:o

I had written a damn lot and posted a few pics. Took me about 13mins to put together...I can't be assed to do it all over again. So at the end of the day, agree to disagree.

Sucks when the connection craps out. Happened 3 times to me as I was responding to your last post. But thanks for the putting forth the effort for what I'm sure would have been a thoughtfully framed entry into the debate. I swear sometimes I only come back to the Hype to trade piss with you. :cwink:

If you mean the most weight I can lift, it's probably over 70 or 80 lbs which I could probably do over 10 times & that's really good considering my age. Benching 120 is nothing, I have friends who bench more than that & they aren't even 18. You're not impressing me dude, so stop trying.

I still don't believe that workout is all that tough so I don't see why Jide is so shocked. It's good that you can do the workout non-stop but seriously, there are much more brutal workouts than that. Take me for instance, if I want to quickly work out, since I work out at the comfort of my own home I may do:

50 sit-ups
25 push-ups
100 jumping jacks
10-25 reps w/ weights
50 sit-ups
15-25 push-ups
10-15 reps w/weights
100 jumping jacks.

Now, that's just some of what I might do but try doing that wihtout stopping or with one minute's rest throughout the whole thing, it's not super tough but you'll feel the burn.

So. I'm telling you that I was comfortably benching 120 at 18. I could lift more but I didn't and stil don't have sufficient time at my disposal. Btw I forgot to mention I was benchin 120 at 30 reps non-stop:o Wether that impresses you, I couldn't care less but to people who know all about working out, that's f***ing incredible. Right now at age 22, I'm benchin 190 at 15 reps.

With regards to the 300 workout so that there's no misunderstanding, are you telling me, you do it without resting because that is ultimately the whole point of that particular workout...that there is no rest time and if you're saying that you do, then you're simply a liar, assuming you're using more than 15kg weights.

I work out at home/garden

1000 crunches
500 squats
.....No rest time here

...then after a lil' rest I do 300 push ups
various exercises with 30kg dumbells with a minimum of 30 reps and that's with rest.

I only do this on saturdays and during the week when I can find the time but on a daily basis the crunches, pushups and squats are a must.

I have a weight bench and everything to do the 300 workout at my place, so it is comforting to work out either by myself or with my brother, which usually the latter is best, some of that stuff is best to have someone watch, to make sure you don't mess anything up while doing an exercise(it can happen, when I first did deadlifts, I killed my back). Jumping jacks are always fun and push-up, sit-ups combo, you should do a bit more, I do 1,000 sit-ups and at least 250-300 push-ups(aside from the 50 push-ups for the 300 workout).

I'm still not impressed because I've talked to people who can lift way more than that. Hell, my brother is benching over 240. :o That is no where near being incredible.

When did I say I've done the 300 workout? How could I have done it if I learned about it last night? Seriously, start reading more, it does the brain good.

Seriously, stop lying. We all know you can't do all that if you struggled with that little 300 workout.

Yeah, that's impressive, 195 is not. Seriously, Jide is a weakling compared to most people who work out regularly as they can bench much more than that. I have friends who are benching at least 150 so 195 is nothing.

Btw, I recently got some new weights & I haven't bee able to do any exercises since Monday because my chest hurts. What's wrong?

I'm not a doctor or anything, but if you bench, you could have done that a wrong way, cuz it deals mostly with your chest when benching...other than that, I would not know...I never did hurt my chest before...back, yes; legs, yes; forearms; yes, but never my chest, lol.

Hrm...have you been sick?

I've been curling & the only thing that I could think of would be that I lifted too much weight when me & my friend had a contest to see who was stronger. When I try to curl my chest hurts or if I lift anything heavy period. Also, a few days ago I got real dizzy when I tried doing sit-ups.

I can bench 800 with my pinky and not break a sweat :hyper::ninja::oldrazz:
