The Tobey Maguire/Peter Parker Thread

Speaking of an Ultimate Spider-Man film, I don't think it would be as good as these Spidey films. As I have said before, I'm not a fan of Ultimate Spider-Man and I don't think it would attach to the audience as much for some reason.

They're playing Spidey 1 on tv..again..But man..Tobey looks hawt in that movie. Raaawrrrr.:o;)

*sighs* Take a couple days off Mr Jide

Dag nabbit. You deleted the latest and greatest from Mr. Jide. I was so looking forward to responding to the notion that all us Tobey Maguire fan club members toil our days away droning on and on about what a perfect Peter Parker Tobey is and how we want him to stay in the franchise forever and ever.

Long time die hard Tobey fans can't wait for Maguire to hang up the tights and get back to the critically acclaimed type of work he was focused on prior to the Spider-man franchise taking over (and some would say interrupting) his career. It will be great to see him get back to projects in which skill of subtlety and nuance are highly coveted in performance and where the audience members are more concerned with the drama and emotionalism unfolding in the story than they are the actor's body fat content.

I kind of agree. I think that if there is going to be a Spider-Man 4, that needs to be the last film of the franchise & needs to be the last Spider-Man film for a while. It'd be horrible if Maguire got typecasted like Christopher Reeve & was unable to find a lot of work for the latter part of his career.

Yeah, I saw the new issue of Wizard at a store but I was all out of cash so I wasn't able to pick it up which sucked.

That wasn't needed. The mod ended it with that, don't keep acting like a jerk.

Jide takes yet another swing at the Tobey loyalists. I saw the post. Thought it deserved a response which I do not feel was half so antagonistic as what has been allowed to transpire here post after post. Dozens of pages of posts here of unmoderated railing on Tobey's body fatness and/or the Tobey fans who don't see it as a problem. I state in so many words how much I look forward to Tobey leaving the franchise and doing work where his acting is more appreciated than the look of his body. And this makes me a jerk. Whatever.

Nah, you're not a jerk. Wanting to see an actor in other movies doesn't make you a jerk. If anyone is a jerk, it's Jide for wasting our time in all of those pages of Maguire hate.

I don't think general audiences would even know what Ultimate Spider-Man is. I think you can get away with a USM reboot without upsetting the majority of movie goers.

I don't care and didn't watch their complaining, but after Morg stopped it, he should've let it go as well. That made him consume the persona of a jerk.

Well, I'm just saying, we still shouldn't be throwing names around, that's how Jide got that probationary ban.

Ultimate would make a great Series...not so much movie.

Although Ultimate isn't really THAT different from 616, during a movie intrepretation that is.

Different look of villains, slightly different characters... etc. Could be a movie, but would be much better as a toon IMO.

Well, the majority of movie goers who have seen the Spider-Man film's would most likley wonder why the Green Goblin is literally a monster. Personally, I think that it wouldn't do that great. In the end, People who are familar with character's from the film's would probably think it's confusing and not needed. Don't take this the wrong way though, it could pull through and be a great film, but classic movie Spidey is in the high leagues and I don't think an Ultimate Spider-Man film can surpass what this current Spidey saga has done in the past 7 year's. Same for 616 Spidey and the Ultimate Spider-Man comic's. I always thought the Ultimate Spider-Man comic's never had enough potential to match up with 616 Spidey, so I feel the same way for the film.

If they ever re-vamp the franchise, keeping Norman has a brilliant scientist and turning into this huge monster known as Green Goblin would've been a perfect ending to a trilogy, imo.

I think that'd be best kept in an ultimate franchise of movies although it would've been nice to see Harry undergo that transformation.

Not IMO, I've always known the Green Goblin as a Villian who wears a costume, not a raging, growling beast.

I don't mind the new adaptations of Norman and Harry...them going into actual transformations into goblin creatures just make it more personal and shows the real monsters coming from the OZ serum.

It was personal in the classic Spidey comic's. The Green Goblin was the first one to find out who Spidey really was and to top it all off, he killed Gwen Stacy, Spidey's first true love. Same for Peter and Harry's confrontation in the comic's, starting from when Norman died to Harry's death in Spectacular Spider-Man Issue #300. I just feel Ultimate Green Goblin deviated too far from the original Goblin, which is what makes Ultimate Green Goblin a less interesting character.

No...what you say is personal-personal, what I meant was that the serum both Norman and Harry takes makes them actual monsters, as in personifying how tragic taking that serum actually does to a person, also shows when the Ultimate Kaine gives MJ the OZ serum and it even turns MJ into a Demogoblin version(which was kinda lame, imo, but it still signifies how devastasting that little serum does to a person).

I wouldn't mind seeing an the Ultimate Green Goblin adapted onto the big screen but he should be a bit more intelligent, of course.

I dont see how anyone couldnt like Tobey in this role, i hope he comes back for Spidey 4 as it would be hard for me to imagine anyone else in the costume.

I personally thought some of his acting throughout the trilogy was superb.
