The Tobey Maguire/Peter Parker Thread

Props to Tobey for his trilogy of Spider-man movies. He did a damn fine job. Quick comment, however ... those complaining about the lack of classic Spider-man quips and witty comebacks and dialogue ... that wasn't Tobey's fault. That's how Raimi wanted to put Spider-man on screen. I remember an interview for the first movie addressing this topic. He said something to the effect, he was worried audiences wouldn't take him seriously, or get sucked into the threatning moment or buy intot he sense of urgency if he was ALWAYS making quips like he does in the comics. But beyond that, there is some great one-liners from Spider-man through out the movies. Could there have been alittle more? Sure, but that isn't Tobey's fault. And for the most part, I agree with Raimi. I think it would have effected the seriousness of the movie in a negative way if there was too many quips. Hell, when Tobey delivered the quips, it wasn't wooden or stiff, they were completely hilarious.

"Cute outfit, did your husband buy it for you?"

"Let mom and dad talk for a minute, will ya?"

"Here's your change."

Hopefully we see more in the 3rd.

The only problem I have is this, I think Topher Grace (like Christian Bale for Batman) was born to play the role of Spider-man / Peter Parker. There are so many innate and natural qualities that lend themselves to those characters via said actors. I personally think Topher would've been an even better Spider-man / Peter Parker than Tobey. And that is saying ALOT. My only wish is that someone else would've been casted as Eddie, so if they decide to make future Spider-man movies, Topher could've played the main character.

I think you nailed it right on the money there

My only problem with Tobey leaving is with, if this film leaves us on kind of a cliffhanger (which it probably wont), but it’s fair to say I think they’re going to leave Venom as a possibility for the 4th or 5th movie. If they don’t that’s quite stupid because all this hype and fuss and we may only see 5-10mins of Venom.

Anyhow it’s going to be hard to sync up a new actor and director to this type of a story
Which was exactly the problem with X3 IMO? I really want to see a new take on Spiderman Its going to be hard for me to get use to new characters after 3 movies though, however it could be a really good move for Marvel if they took a serious approach to Spidey like Nolan does batman (not that serious it is spidey, but more serious).

But Toby was good if Raimi is on board again I’d hope he stays, but if there’s no Raimi and this film takes a new direction there’s no need for Tobey,

But who Will fill his shoes???

:( My sweet Tobey. I'll sure miss him. It's gonna suck ass to see someone else take his place if they do an SM4.:csad:

This sucks big time. If Raimi leaves, I will loose all hope.

man, there won't be a "Spider-man 4" without Tobey, but definitely there will be a new beginning from zero.
Hate to say this again but as long as Spidey 3 is an earner, Sony will be willing to recast title characters of the franchise in order to make sequels no matter how different they are from the originals. Something like Batman Forever. It's about money not quality.

and how ended Batman?

Batman Forever was a success because of Batman Returns. In this kind of movies we see the consecuences in the next film of the franchise. So, If sony doesn't want to kill Spider-man like Warner did with Batman, they shouldn't do it.

I hate when people compare Spider-Man to Batman.

That's too bad. If Tobey leaves that would probably mean this will probably be the end for Raimi as well. So Spider-Man 4 would be more like a restart.

I don't think there will be a restart considering the first movie was so successful and its only been a couple of years. If there is a spiderman 4 it should continue on

I always knew they were going for only one trilogy. I think it's enough, becuase right after 4th film people would get bored and uninterested in the franchise (like how it happened with Superman, Batman and TMNT).

Now we need to wait for restart, which will most likely get it's green light in 2020-2025 ;)

You people are so clinging, it's sickening. If Raimi/Maguire doesn't stck around all will be lost, like there's no more people out there who can fill their boots. There's talent everywhere for Spidey's films, Sony/Marvel just have to find them.

I don't care if he comes back or not. If he's right and this movie concludes the trilogy and there are NO loose ends remaining, then Sony can do whatever they want with the franchise.

However, I think he'll be back. He's been saying the same "I dont know if there are anymore stories to tell" line for going on a year now. When Sony approaches him with that nice 25-30 million dollar check to do a fourth, he'll eventually come around.

Superman, TMNT and Batman sequels were uninteresting because they were sh:tty movies...and that's why they were restarted.

That's another reason, which shows that usual comic book movie franchise can be no longer than 3 films.

Well, to be short and sweet, Tobey has said that if they come up with more compelling stories to tell, he's up for it. And those compelling stories don't have to stop just because your favorite villain has already been featured. Let's just enjoy 3 and see what happens.

Edit - The compelling stories also don't have to end because of the current character arcs being wrapped up. New ones can emerge, and there's a lot of untapped potential in characters like Gwen and Doc Connors like I said before. Potentially Bruce Campbell too! :D

I loved Batman Begins, but the one thing I damn it for is putting this idea of a restart in everyones head. Ever since it came out, everyone is constantly talking about restart this and restart that. It's annoying.

Well, Superman needed a re-start.

Superman needed it for special reasons.. :( But Batman and TMNT went down on their own because of the people handling them and HOW they were handling them. This issue doesn't seem to be hindering for Spider-man by any means (or the latest incarnation of Batman for that matter), so I don't think we've got anything to be worried about. :woot:

Until I actually hear Tobey say he's not doing anymore Spidey movies, I won't believe anything. :spidey:

If there going to try and continue from 3 with a new lead it should be gyllenhal.

Otherwise they should just keep the first 3 in broad continuity and pull a supes returns..i dont like the sound of it but w/e, it will probably happen.

Tobey should stop being spiderman after this third one. I think he has done a magnificent job playing peter and spidermans role. And plus theres no way that Spiderman 4 or 5 or 6 will ever beat Spider-Man 3, and i hope you guys can agree. Mysterio, shocker, scorpian, electro hahah, please sam just stop after number.
