I winced at the studity of that line. In Amazing Spidey #317, Eddie says to Peter:

"As for your beloved secret identity, well, I want you for myself. If your dual identity were known, there would be too much competition for your scalp."

Venom has always been leery if not in direct opposition to other villians. The last thing he should have done in the movie was go looking for an alliance with another villian.

I know, and I thought about that, but I wished Venom then betrayed Sandman after he almost kills Peter, and then he wants Peter for himself And it takes Spider-man, Harry, and Sandman to take out Venom. And then Harry dies, and Spider-man forgives Sandman, because he did help out.

Also, if you consider the movie's Eddie Brock, it does seem like he would ask for help from a big-time villian as Sandman.. Plus Brock JUST discovered his powers.

I agree, the team-up was my least favorite thing in the movie. So fundamentally not Venom that everything that came after smelled funny by association.

Thanks for the reminder about the secret identity thing. It's kind of cool, but one gets the idea that the writers were just using it as a device to give Venom more staying power, to explain why he didn't just ruin the hell out of Peter's life right away or keep threatening him with it.

Actually I think that aspect of Venom should have been featured prominently in the movie. Look at what the other villains did with the knowledge that Peter is Spidey. GG used it to hurt Peter's loved ones, Doc Ock didn't know it long enough to do anything with it, Harry used it to hurt Peter and his loved ones, and Venom used it to...(you see where this is going). It would have been cool for Venom to do something new with it, i.e., threatening or attempting to "out" Peter. The best Venom scene in TAS is when Peter runs into Eddie standing on the wall, who taunts him about "what JJ would think, hmmm.." which leads to the sweet chase scene and then Venom dangling an unmasked Peter in front of the news cameras. SO AWESOME.

UPDATED..

My Fav. Venom/Eddie lines from the movie.. In order..

1. Venom- " Look, I wanna kill the spider, you wanna kill the spider.. Together, he doesn't stand a chance!.... Interested?"

2. Venom- " Never wound.. What you can't kill"

3. Venom- "I like being bad... It makes me happy."

4. Eddie- "Ooh my spider sense is tingling.. If ya know what I'm talking about"

5. Eddie- "Hey Parker"

6. Eddie- "I come before you.. Humbled, and humiliated.. To ask for but one thing. I want you to kill Peter Parker"

7. Eddie- "You made me lose my girl.. Now I'm going to make you lose yours... How's that sound? Tiger?"

8. Eddie- "I'm thinking Humiliation.. Kinda like the way you humiliated me.. Do you remember? Do you remember what you did to me?"

9. Venom -"I want him dead too Flint! That's why I've been looking for ya. Oooh yeeahh, I know ALL about you. Like the fact that Spider-man won't let ya help your poor daughter. It just.. ugh.. It just that doesn't seem right to me."

10. Eddie- "Parker you are such a boyscout. When ya gonna give a guy a break?!"

11. Eddie- "It's Brock sir, Edward brock junior." (Like 500 times. lol)

12. Eddie- "WHAT THE HELL?!"

13. Eddie- "Parker...?"

14. Eddie- "It's Brock sir, Edward Brock junior... And I'm dating your daughter. (Different than #11)

I can't remember too many more..:woot:

Forgot Eddie's last words...

Eddie- "PETER!! WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!?!?...... NOOOO!!!"

Kidnapping MJ and threatening to kill her doesn't count as "hurting Peter's loved ones"? It would've been redundant for Venom to torture Peter since Harry had already kind of done that.

And now that you mention it, I really wish Raimi had adapted that scene of Venom hanging an unmasked Peter in front of the news reporters. It would've worked into the whole "I'm going to humiliate you" angle, and might even have validated that awful British woman's existence.

Yes, it does, maybe my point wasn't clear, basically...exactly, it would have been interesting for Venom NOT to do that again and instead do the other bad thing w/Peter's secret identity.

Eddie Brock Jr. was Peter's Daily Bugle partner while he was fired by Jameson.because he wants to be a brilliant evil vigilante to become as Venom

You've hit the nail on the head my friend.

Venom's scream sometimes reminded me of Peter Pan's crow in Hook. lol.

They should have went with that angle--"I'm Eddie Brock, and I NEVER want to grow up! Take your power and responsibility and shove it Spider-man, you must die so that the symbiote and I can continue to skateboard and have fruit-fights."

I wish Eddie would've stalked Peter more, when he got the suit.. like tortured him too.

tortured maybe, stalk yes. id rather see some stalking for some days and harry trying to find peter and kill him, and then at the end of the fight u see venom laughing when both harry and pete are gone. then a fight and venom somehow like gets hurt badly then asks sandman for help. maybe like showing how the symbiote it flamible, cuz it is. like have him throw some symbiote at spidey and it disinigrates in the fire or something.

I'm betting you if they were to give Topher 16 monthes of weight training like they gave Thomas Hayden Church, you'd see a definate change in Topher's appearance. .

Topher could train for 5 years and not look anything like the 616 version of Brock. He simply doesn't have the frame to support a large amount of muscle. Church was already a slightly larger than average man before he began training for SM3. He was no stranger to the gym as Topher was.
Topher could lift every other day, eat like a horse and take every legal supplement from GNC and still not break 200lbs. He just doesn't have the genetics. As long as Grace is in this role, we are stuck with the consolidated version of "Venom"

Oh booh-hoo. I'd rather be "stuck" with a good actor who made am or einteresting character than any comic version of Brock in the past than some stupid werestler who can't act that fans always suggest.

BTW some dartists have drawn Venom as smaller and more animal like such as JRjr and that was always an interesting image. Mind you the character was just as boring in those issues so it didn't help.

But Topher plays the role of Eddie Brock/Venom perfectley. it's not about his size, it's about his acting for the role which is really what matters. His acting was awesome IMO.

It should never be a matter of either/or. Each person cast for a role should have the proper look & screen presence, which Topher did not. That person should also be able to act, which Topher cannot. He was especially awful in the church scene. He cannot pull off a dramatic scene, period. He should stick to goofy teen material. That is the only thing to which he's suited.

i dont' understand why so many of you have a problem with topher. every scene he was in was acted out perfectly. how else would you have wanted him to be without him being an ass to everybody? the character is depicted as a shallow guy who only looks out for himself, very selfish and a kiss ass. thats how i remember him being in the comics and thats how topher grace portrayed him. he is as good of an actor as anybody else and shouldn't be limited just because his isn't buff or known for much of anything edgy. he depicts normal people with the qualities that are required for that person

if venom had more screentime that would have been beyond awesome, but that isnt' tophers fault in any way. more venom fighting, yes, some kind of humiliation without the world learning of peters identity, that would have been good too, but topher pulled off every scene he was in perfectly

That's not Venom at all. Eddie Brock is a psychologically broken man who's twisted sense of honor is constantly at war with his perception of himself as a victim. The unoriginal, uninteresting character that was written for SM3 is nothing like the Eddie Brock that became so popular over the years.
I can't blame Topher for that though. The character deviated totally from it's comic book roots. That's bad writing. Raimi decided to consolidate several versions of "Venom" and drop him into a storyline that, until SM3, resembled a conventional 616 type storyline. That was stupid directing. I can only blame Topher for trying to do something for which he was not suited. He should have kept his lack of ability and lack of screen presence away from such an anticipated character.

Go see In Good Company.

He is actually a very good actor.

Who did you want for Venom by the way? Please don't say a wrestler, though.

he was the best person to do it, he did it, he IS eddie brock, face it. thats eddie brock to me. now if he was trying to be all buddy buddy with peter, or being a dumbass or something then yea, that would have been out of character. theres this guy taking pictures of spider-man, a rival for peter (quite a serious threat money wise) who keeps getting humiliated, both by spider-man and peter. got his camera broken, humiliated at work, lost his job and likely any other job in that field, he's obsessed with gwen who he sees peter with, he duzn't necesarily hate spider-man, but peter, which is why he asks for him to be killed. he's unstable and out of his mind.
"who's twisted sense of honor is constantly at war with his perception of himself as a victim" and how exactly was that not the character in the movie?? he obviously thinks he is the best thing since sliced bread with the ladies, he's cocky, he dated gwen once and thought they had something great, he doesn't know how to be a real photographer without cheating just to get some recognition, theres no honor in that. he thinks he is a victim, he thinks he deserves gwen and thinks that when peter makes 'a move' on her that it isnt' in any way because he was a jerk to her in some ways...nuff said
