The Trump Thread!!!

We'll see. Personally, I don't like it either, but I'm fairly certain he's exactly what a lot of America is going to be finding appealing. Don't discount what it's done to racist Americans to have a black president for almost a decade. A lot of people can't wait to hit those polls and vote for the exact opposite.

Cute little bit at the end

Question, don't you think it is just as racist/sexist to vote to someone just because of their gender and/or ethnicity?

Of course it is. But people are driven by emotional impulse. And for a lot of very conservative republicans race is a primal topic. It doesn't make it right, but their inclination to stick to an Us vs. Them narrative is quite strong.

Like it or not, Donald Trump represents everything they want to see in the White House, because at several levels he represents everything racist whites aspire to be.

But politicians know all of this, they know how demographics affect their voting prospects. Indeed, they manipulate that fact as much as possible in order to get their wins. As a presidential candidate, all that voting is about is pandering to the weakest demographics and trying to win them over. For Trump that'll be women and minorities, for Hillary it'll be men and conservatives. In general, obviously. There are exceptions, but elections are won on broad trends.

I feel like it's too late too. Our society is so ****ing vacuous these days. Our collective attention span is shot to hell. Nobody cares about anything except DVR'ring Duck Dynasty.

I hate Duck Dynasty

Did not people vote for President Obama simply because they wanted a "Black" President? Democrats are just as bad if not worse that Republicans. There are people who will vote for Hilary simply because they want a female President.

Actually, I would argue that people vote against the other guy. No one wanted to see McCain in office with his idiot running mate Palin sitting in the Vice's chair. If people vote for Hillary, I would think it's because they're voting against the Republican candidate (even more so if it's Trump).

There probably are.

But morally speaking tolerance wins over bigotry.

He really doesn't. He represents the version of Republicans that the left thinks we are. There's way too many candidates in the race right now and we have no idea how this will shake out. We are the same party that nominated conservative moderates the past two Presidential elections. We will do the same again.

You couldn't be more wrong. Your party has changed, and not for the better. Their vicious, disrespectful, and racist attacks against President Obama for the last six years has taken it's toll. Trump is the Republican Party. I know the truth hurts, but you need to accept it and move on.

There's no escaping the fact that Donald Trump is exactly what a lot of white America wants right now. Deep down inside in places they don't like discussing in polite company they desperately want to see him become the president.
So basically Trump is representing and appealing to the inner racist of some of white America.

Question, don't you think it is just as racist/sexist to vote to someone just because of their gender and/or ethnicity?
I think that's the point. It can also be said to be sexist/racist to NOT vote for someone because of gender and/or ethnicity, so doing the opposite is just reverse sexism/racism. It's a lose/lose situation really. You're a racist/sexist whether you for for or not vote for someone based on gender/race, so in the end I don't think it really matters.

That's what this election seems to be, more so than previous ones. The voters will be voting for the other party because they don't want to vote for Hillary/Trump. I guess it comes down to who will have more haters by the time the voting begins, more so than who has more supporters.

Vicious attacks on Bush from the left is ok? The left "praying" to Dick Cheney to die during his heart surgery is ok?

The Left attacking Mitt Romney because he had his newest (adopted) Grandson on his lap for his family's Christmas Card is ok!? Face it both sides attack accept it and move on!

But the rest of us who have to live here too don't :whatever:

Even with some progressive victories like legalization of gay marriage, American society in general seems more and more like it's pandering to the lowest common denominator. The Learning Channel and History Channel filling up with redneck "reality" shows like Duck Dynasty, Alaska Bush People, Honey Boo Boo, and all the other trash that keeps popping up glorifying people who can't count to ten without taking their shoes off.

Intellectualism is looked at as a dirty thing, redneck culture is glorified, book stores are closing down. The media will talk about a celebrity divorce for days on end but not even mention stuff that's systematically destroying the world. Congress and the Senate slash tens of millions from the education budget while throwing money at Israel's military or our own unnecessary wars like it's water.

There is a concerted effort in this country to drive down the national education level and intelligence level and destroy the collective American attention span and get everyone vegetating on their couch watching Honey Boo Boo or Keeping Up with the Kardashians instead of worrying about politics or the way mega corporations are systematically destroying the planet.

Who talks about the North American honey bee slowly dying out? Does anyone realize how many plants that we eat every day won't survive without bees?

No, Kim Kardashian's butt is more news-worthy.

That's the mentality they want Americans to have. Because that level of vapidity is required to get someone like Donald Trump elected.

They want an entire nation filled with people too stupid, too apathetic, and too ****ing clueless to question anything that's thrown at them.

Oh believe me, things are a nightmare down here. We have disease wiping out our orange groves devastating the citrus industry (I used to have a nice orange tree in my backyard that got whacked by it), invasive plants sucking all the oxygen out of our lakes and rivers and destroying ecosystems, invasive animals such as giant Burmese pythons all over the place, flesh eating bacteria and other dangerous things all over our beaches, and all sorts of other crap. And we have no idea how to stop any of it.

These are major concerns for this state.

No, the worst part of it is coming from the Republicans and you know it!!!!!

Still doesn't excuse Democrats and their supporters for acting badly as well.

In this case it does, because I'm trying to save the world. If a Republican is elected as President, and they retain control of the House and Senate, then the damage they would do for the next four years would be irreversible.

Thank you for pointing this out.

Vicious and disrespectful, yes. But that what he deserves. George Bush was an idiot and was treated with the same disrespect. It goes both ways pal. The racism bullcrap though, just stop. Anytime anyone disagrees with Barack Obama, that must mean they are racist, right? Did it ever occur to you that some people just don't like his policies and procedures? Just like no one liked Bush's policies and procedures? No, it didn't, well ok. A smart person politically would tell you we have had two of the worst Presidents in United States history for back to back double terms.

Oh, and by the way I'm a white guy from Ohio that hates Duck Dynasty and will say that the only true statement Donald Trump has made is that this country has lost precious jobs to China, Japan, Mexico, etc. And THAT is the fault of both parties.

Yes I was critical of Presiden Bush Jr which I think is a good thing. No one if perfect and while Bush got us in the Iraq alot of his tactics allowed President Obama to take out Bin Laden, Also most of the left will not attack President Obama because they think he is some sort of Messiah.

Obama backing the Arab Spring and sitting on his hands for 4 months last year allowed ISIS to grow to a point where US intervention is needed but he would not do it.

It is not the left that abandoned him it was the moderates. I don't care what both Liberals and Conservatives say both make up a small but highly vocal percentage of the US voters.

IMO Moderates make up 60-70 percent of the voters. Also President Obama was really the first to fully take advantage of Social Media in 2008. Throw in a bad economy, his ethnicity, a Methuselah opponent, a dullard for a GOP VP candidate and you have a "ground breaking" "historic" win.

No matter what you're opinion on Obama, you have to concede that getting a minority in the White House was a groundbreaking, historic day for America.

I suspect it's more than just some, but yeah. If you want the truth of a matter don't look at what is being said on the actual political platform by voters, look at what's being said in places where people feel like they can't be held accountable for their words, that's where the truth comes out. The fact that the internet allows pseudo-anonymity has shown a lot of people for what they actually are.

Go to any YouTube comments section, the replies on news articles, etc. That's the truth right there. And from what I gather there's still a lot of prejudice and hate. And it's built up for a lot of people over the last 8 years having a man in office that offends and threatens their view of what the status quo should be.

I'm not saying Donald Trump is going to win anything necessarily, but what I am saying is the message he's punting is making a lot of Americans happy - whether they'll admit it or not.

Actually, I find it just as racist to vote for someone simply based on their gender, ethnicity, religion and/or orientation.

And yet, that's how this works. Human beings are very simple, they grant validation to and support for things that resemble them or what they endorse. It's basic. Donald Trump is a rich ***hole that isn't very intelligent. It'd be wish fulfillment to see someone with mediocre intellectual ability and absolute disregard for others sitting in the white house. In fact...I recall it happening already? George something or other.

And what are these "tactics"?

This has got to be one of the most reaching defenses for Bush I've ever seen.

That's like saying "Well, even though he capsized the tanker, the captain of the ship's tactics allowed the coast guard to come and attempt to save some people". Retrofitting a justification onto something that should never have happened to try and smooth it over is ridiculous.

Donald Trump’s Steps to Success!
1. Inherit billions from your dad
2. File for bankruptcy 4 times
3. Put your name on every property you own
4. Put your face in front of every camera
5. Get a crappy reality show on NBC
6. Pretend to run for President every four years
7. Finally run for President and make idiotic statements

To save on water we shall use Gatorade. It's got electrolytes, it's what plants crave

:lmao:

Saw this meme on Bookface and just about died laughing. I know we can't post memes here in the politics section so this is the next best thing. That movie was so far ahead of it's time

I'm a white girl (prefer the term American with German/Italian/Polish ancestry) and I never even watched Duck Dynasty, or any of that reality tv crap. I never watched Road Rules back in the day, and I sure as hell am not going to watch that trash today. Only reality shows I liked were AFV (is that even considered reality) and Extreme Makeover Home edition.

But yeah, agree about our industrial industry being flushed down the toilet. It's a combination of greed and over regulation. I'm in this industry, and the only reason why we are still in the US is because we are a defense contracting company to the US, and the US military prefers to work with companies within the US.

The most appalling thing I think that has happened, is when USDA agreed to allow Tyson to grow their chickens here, kill them here, but then transport the meat to China to be processed, and then shipped back to the USA for sale. I mean,WTF? How is any of this at all profitable for the company in regards to fuel/energy resources being used to transport this stuff halfway around the world and back?
