World The Ultimate Spider-Man Animated Series Discussion Thread - Part 2

I don't see why everyone hates this show so much. It's a cartoon, an animated show on a kid's network. It's supposed to be for kids. I mean, who cares if the show doesn't have substance or character development. It's just a show trying to have some fun--gimmicks are the way to go cause kids don't care about this stuff. They don't care about quality--most kids are pretty dumb. Flashy colors, gags, lots and lots of attempts at humor, crossovers and shameless plugs. That's what makes this show so great--c'mon guys, stop being so hard on it.

Hey Webhead, ready to review season 2?

I started reviewing it a while back and I think I got reviews done thru episode 5 or 6, whichever has the S6. I went on a bit of a hiatus because I started getting into watching some good shows. I did however get a chance to watch some more episodes from season 2 and I'm just procrastinating on writing the reviews. I can tell you one thing, it's not gonna be pretty.

Oops, I forgot.
Opinions and all, I'd like to see the rest of your review.

Hope you like the Spider-verse arc in season 3, it's pretty good, less goofy than what came in seasons 1 & 2.

the cartoon isn't meant to be taken that seriously, and it never was, it's just for fun

This show got better during the middle of Season 1. Season 2 was an improvement.

Season 3 is GOOD.

yeah, I take an occasional look in at the show every so often to see if there's any significant change, and to ME, after three seasons, it's still the s**ts and unwatchable... I haven't missed anything... no big loss at all...

Sure thing, buddy. I'll post more of my reviews when I get the chance--probably within the next week.

I can't see how the show will actually improve upon what they've already done but on the other hand, I can't see how it could get any worse.

its on its 3rd season ain't it? so it must be doing ok for Disney

i watch it every so often and it is what it is and isn't trying to be anything more

I think its kinda fun seeing these rare marvel characters that you don't see often appear

Yep, that's one of my favorite thing about the current run of cartoons.
Too bad there's no Moon Knight, he's one of my favorites, and still haven't appeared much out of the comics.

Is anything Spider-Man related supposed to be taken 'seriously?' I feel like that statement is such a cop-out. It's like when something doesn't have the quality of previous shows or other shows in the same genre, people make that remark or something similar as though it's an argument for the lack of quality. And I'm not directing this towards you but I've seen this comment many times before and to me, it's bogus. A good show is a good show, period. Point is, you don't need to make excuses for a good show.

A piece of advice some folks gave me when I repeatedly bashed Web of Shadows among crowds who enjoy it: "Let it go, your constant critique won't change anyone's mind, if you don't like it don't discuss it."

Was this directed at me, Aziz? Cause if so, then you're sending me mixed signals. I thought you wanted me to continue posting my reviews? I think I've been fair in giving the show a shot...it's just been falling short of the mark, for me.

And on your point, the thread title says "Discussion" not "For those that love the show." As long as those that have gripes remain courteous, I don't see why we shouldn't be able to voice our concerns or dislikes.

there is an episode where he gets turned into a pig (spider-ham) its them levels of silly only the ultimate spider-man would dare cross, the previous cartoon would never ever have gone that far

it really depends what would make this a good show, if it requires being more serious and following the comics better then thats clearly not what this cartoon is, it takes from the comics but it doesn't follow the comics and the humour and sillyness is pretty much what it was built on

Oops, my mistake.
I wish to see your reviews, you do share a little positive in them, and full thought about each season, that makes them better than just "OOoooohhhh, what an embarrassment, end it already.", coming and going with the same lines repeated by some posters who post in this thread.
Even if reviews are purely negative, it's better than the constant repetition of that line in different ways, with no reasoning.

Maybe it would be different if the jokes/humor in USM were, you know, actually funny. As if the constant joking and overboard sillyness isn't already a turn-off, the fact that it misses the mark the far majority of the time makes it even worse. And we're talking about Spider-Man here not Family Guy. Spider-Man should have some balance--there's nothing wrong with humor but since when has he ever been about slapstick comedy. At least with Family Guy, the show has a tendency to be funny, the humor actually pays off.

As for improving the show...how about giving me a character I can relate to or someone I can get behind and root for. You don't need to follow the comics to accomplish those things. I'm all for creative differences when making shows or movies based on Spidey--after all this is an adaptation and not a direct page for page remake. Things are gonna be different and I'm ok with that. I'm not ok with taking said character and dragging him through the mud.

Thanks. Yeah, I try to be as fair as possible. If there's something that I believe is genuinely good, I'll make note of it and talk about it.

Season 3 is GOOD.

I'm finally getting to watch this show with my kids without feeling like it's a chore. Prior to this season, I was glad that my youngest daughter (who is 5 and too young for the live-action movies) was getting into the Spider-man universe, but the show was difficult for any adult or long-time reader to view.

It still doesn't compare to the 90s series, but at least Joe Q. and Disney seem to have heard the outrage from the throngs of older Spidey fans.

That's the only reason I turned in to this show and Hulk:AOS over the last couple of years. I rarely felt like these shows were breaking new ground for their respective characters, but appearances from the Inhumans, Agent Venom, Blastaar, Man-Thing, GotG, and Dormammu were too enticing to pass up.

I thought it would be hard to make a design worse than Dock Ock's but I think Vulture might have done it. XD

Still enjoying the season so far for the most part though.

I didn't think anything could look worse than Green Goblin's look until I saw how they designed the Vulture. What were they thinking, who thought this would be a cool design?

That's your problem right there. You're attempting to apply rational thought processes to the people behind this show. That's just not gonna work.

I know one thing that looks worse. The movie from your avatar.

According to this it looks like the show has ended which makes season 3 the last.

This is from the site when someone asked a question.

Ques: When you say that production has completed on Ultimate Spider-Man, does that mean it got cancelled and there won't be a 4th season?

Answer: Crew has been laid off from Ultimate Spider Man. My information is the show has wrapped, but understand there have been many iterations of Spider Man in both animated and live-action iterations. There can always be more.
