this is news? i thought that was the point of everything bendis had ever done in 616...that characters didn't need to be interesting or evolve to be popular, that they would be popular or unpopular because he willed it so.

Barry and Hal are in the same boat. This modern silver age revival brought on by Johns and Co. The fact that his title might be written well is irrelevant to the fact that he was brought back in the first place after one of the most important deaths in comics history. It's extra saddening knowing how awesome Johns made Wally in his Flash run and just ****ted it away in an instant.

shenanigans. the flash hadn't had a consistent direction or even lead character for years before barry showed back up, as opposed to hal who interrupted a relatively clear path kyle had been on. bringing back barry wasn't solely done to return the silver age hero to the forefront (though that was certainly part of it) he was also brought back to help fix the mess the flash had become thanks to an inconsistent editorial direction.

and reading that all typed out i'm sure someone could make the same case for hal if they wanted to... but **** it, i like barry allen and i'm glad he's back

The only way to fix Flash was to bring back a character that had been dead for 30 years? Ok, sure. Laughable. Who knew good writing wasn't enough.

I still maintain that they f**ked up the Flash book those last few years on purpose.


Why in God's name would Mark Effin' Waid create Vagina Monsters? Hell, even when Bart was Flash, the writing was s**t and the art was the toilet paper for the first six issues. It....boggles the mind how they let it get that bad......unless it was what they intended......Conspirizeee!

Well they definately ****ed up the GL book on purpose by making Hal a murderer and putting Peter Parker on the job.

So maybe you're right.

The Parallax thing was the best thing to happen to Hal. although it could have done with more development. It made him an actual three dimensional character, instead of the cardboard cut out *****e bag that he was/is.

Space cop with PTSD >>>> *****e bag space cop with a superiority complex.

Best thing if you never read one Green Lantern book in your life. Or any Silver Age mag for that matter. You don't make Superman better by deconstructing him. None of the Big 7 can benefit from that.

Hal was always a cocky test pilot straight out of the Right Stuff. Doesn't take a murder spree to make him interesting. Just takes a good writer. Something Ron Marz isn't.
