I doubt Precious will win much Oscar-wise. It hasn't so far with anything else.

I have absolutely no desire to see Precious, but Lee Daniels was on The Daily Show a couple weeks ago and he seems like a nice guy, so I wouldn't mind seeing it win some Oscars. The Oscars are meaningless to me anyway.

Im not saying it should rack up Oscars, but it is a really eye opening movie....**** like that happens more than people want to admit

Yeah, I generally don't put any real weight to awards or anything. I still follow them and like rooting for stuff I think should win though. Well, I did anyway.

So, Corp, are they going to close this place as soon as it hits 10,000 posts?

I'll be closing it, yes. If I catch it right on the 10,000th post, I'll do it then. Otherwise, it'll be whenever I happen to see that it's over 10k. Hype policy, and supposedly it reduces lag, which can only be a good thing at this point. :o

I don't even know what you're talking about. All I know about the movie is that it involves rape and it has a bunch of actors who aren't really actors, like Mariah Carey and Lenny Kravitz.

I'm just going to start calling you Albi.
That's not too far from where I was raised. I've been there. Decent place.
Bwahahahahaha! :awesome:

Oh yeah, that's totally not winning anything. Maybe a technical award here or there. Only reason anybody in Hollywood even paid attention to that movie is because of Peter Jackson's involvement.

It's a shame. I loved District 9.
D9 was pretty good, but I'm pretty sure it isn't really considered Oscar worthy.
It really is a shame... especially as Precious is going to win a bunch of undeserved ****.
Whoa whoa! And -I'm- racist? :o

What's it about again? Is that the one about the girl who gets verbally abused by her mother/stepmother

more like parental rape on a regular basis...Carey plays a social worker, I don't like her much but she isn't horrible

Damn, that's just a few posts away too. I hope Womp is working hard...or barely working on the next one :awesome:

Nah, I actually hope it catches it in time.

Her mom rapes her in the literal sense?

Hmm. Either you or Gilpesh are a *****e depending on the veracity of that statement...

Apparently, Helen Mirren was originally going to play her role. Jon Stewart was like, "So, after Helen Mirren called and said she couldn't do it, were you just like, 'You know who I need? Get me the girl from Glitter.'" :funny:

no her dad rapes her and her mom lets it happen and is also physically/verbally abusive

I thought it was, "Make unsupported accusations of people's taste in movies" day. :?

Cause Gilpy doesn't like it due to it being about a black woman. :o
No. I don't like it because it is clear Oscar Bait bull ****. Let's take a look at the checklist:

Ugly protagonist. Check.
People playing against type to win awards. Check.
Lots of horrible things happen to the protagonist. Check.
More horrible things happen to the protagonist. Check.
More people playing against type in a role that tries to inspire the protagonist. Check.
More horrible things happen to the protagonist. Check.
Movie ends on an even bigger down note (usually something bad happening to the protagonist). Check.

It reminds me of Blazing Saddles when Hedy... I mean Hedley Lamarr says, "And I am most certainly risking a nomination for best supporting actor!"
