I've watched Evangelion twice (it used to air on the local PBS affiliate on Sunday nights), and you're better off not finishing it. That series is so caught up its own ass with symbolism, it forgot to be literal on the surface. It's like reading Final Crisis.

i've found that problem with a few animes. you know what i miss? outlaw star. no deeper meaning, just alot of shooting stuff and flying in space.

oh jeez....does someone sing into a miracle machine to reset everything and save the day?

I just finished the two seasons of Ghost in the Shell: SAC. I really liked them.

ghost in the shell was great, but it would get too dialogue heavy sometimes and you'd have to watch it twice and break it down to understand what's going on

No, everything turns white. It's totally racist.

Or the studio ran out of money. One of the two.

Also, my comic movie list goes like this:

1. Thor
2. Captain America

And that's it 'cause I'm skipping the others.

**** yea....names don't get much cooler than Gene Starwind

Rurouni Kenshin people. Rurouni Kenshin.

Of course, Tronne might disagree.

Yeah it was dialogue heavy, especially the Solid State Society dvd. Oh boy, that was a journey.

Didn't that theme song set the record for the most F-bombs in a composed lyrical manner?
i would honestly be surprised if it did. i've heard it's equal on the radio, so i'm sure that something worse exists somewhere

Well, that's not really all that true at all until the end. Until then, it's very much literal on the surface, even if it's rife with symbolism and ambiguity. The ending, I can understand feeling that way, but it was kind of brilliant in its own considering the background of what happened.

Yeah, but EMOgelion destroyed all those franchises with under-age girls, religious references and questions about one boy's sexual orientation.

God, I detest that show.

That's like hating Watchmen for unleashing the grim and gritty. Hate the grim and gritty, not the series that everyone wanted to rip because it did it so well. Well, you can hate the series, I guess, but at least hate it for real reasons and not crap like that.

Evangelion did well for its shock value and animation quality. It's storyline is a far cry from Watchmen and we've all sort of agreed that Anime/Manga's equivalent of it is Akira which I like.

Evangelion deconstructed the Mecha franchise and not in a way I appreciate. But to each his own. I notice we knock heads a lot on matters of anime Tron. No hard feelings I hope.

That's exactly what Watchmen did for super hero comics, though. They do share a lot of similarities in that regard. Both are deconstructive and satiric nature. Added a lot of depth to a genre that was somewhat lacking (thought not devoid of, by any means) in it beforehand, though instead of opening doors, ended up starting a bad slide that a lot of people ripped without really grasping. Not to say I'm necessarily comparing them directly mind you (especially in storytelling situations), but definitely some vivid similarities between the two. Akira? I don't really see that connection at all, honestly, in either technique or storyline. It's equivalent would be...I don't know, a Grant Morrison comic probably.

Grant Morrison. Thanks for bringing up one of the writers I have a hatred for. FLAME ME ALL YOU WANT PEOPLE! I DON'T @#$KING GET IT!

And, oh yeah, no hard feelings or anything. I never take arguing about this stuff seriously enough to have that.

You're welcome. And don't worry, you're among friends in this thread for that one. We have few vocal members of our little community who spew vile at Morrison in here. I mean, you're all wrong for it, but you're not alone.

I love the way you get all diplomatic. Considered a job as a Spin doctor?

I really like the energy in here right now

On another note, I miss dvr. I'm forced to watch television live and miss out on quality hang out time with my roommies and one of my roommates comely young Jewish gal friends.
