see, what I dont understand is how everyone bashes topher grace.... Do you not realize hes in hollywood they have the best trainers in the world working for them... by the time topher starts shooting he could be 250 and ripped u dont know... and hes a great actor so that shouldnt be an issue...

I mean I know the image we got of him is a wimpy geek on that 70's show but dudes done with that now...

I dunno I think hes gonna pull it off....

I think the Spiderman franchise has done a great job casting everyone so far. People need to relax a little bit and make comments about Topher and Church after seeing the movie (or at least a trailer with the two of them in it). The casting director seems to know what he's doing, so I'd trust him with Topher and Church too. I think both will be excellant in their roles. I understand giving comments/opinions - but one should keep somewhat of an open mind.

It's because those of us doing it don't take him seriously as a villain.

ESPECIALLY as the one this thread is about.

I guess they could've hired Pee-Wee Herman and sent him to acting coaches and bulked him up too, but would we take him seriously as Venom? Same thing with the 70s kid, to a lesser degree. I don't dislike Pee-Wee at all, but would he make a good Venom? Uh, no.

Hopefully this is all much ado about nothing.

I'd model it after this picture.

WHY CALL HIM GOPHER?

Because he's a joke. He'd make a decent Peter Parker...but EDDIE BROCK??? Anyone read comics, not the Ultimate's, the real comics...where Venom originated? Do any of you Topher supporters know what Eddie Brock is supposed to look like? Seriously, remove your head from your ass and pick up an old Amazing Spiderman comic.:mad::confused:

I know what you mean but I still doubt he'll be Venom.Kirsten said this, not Raimi. No offense to the girl but she messes things up

I wouldn't worry too much about it.... Topher won't be Eddie Brock.... I think Kirsten was slightly confuse in her understanding who Topher would actually be playing.

How about you keep your head up your ass and realise what the hell you just said?:o You yourself just said he'd make a decent PP which I more than agree with, so how does that make him a joke?? If anybody's a joke, look towards those with their fingers on the power button.
At the end of the day instead of acting like losers and bashing Grace to death how about sharing some of that blame/hate pie to those who actually thought it was a good idea to green light and cast him. If y'all wanna be mad at someone, how about giving Raimi and the the other execs a shout out for giving Grace the thumbs up in the 1st place?:o...
...If you dont know, you better ask somebody...

I just realized something.... I don't care what you all think lol... thats great

so I think Topher will do a great job... and you guys dont.. cool

settled

Joke as Brock, genius. Yes, I do think he would have made a good Peter Parker. However, I will put my head in my ass so that I can see things your way. Sorry, fresh air clouds my judgement.

Hate pie??? Quit hogging all the "I Topher" pie. Gotta' go, I have an Apple pie in the oven.;)

I suppose this should be posted here as well...

Spidey/Venom/Sandman bookends to be released next year.

Could mean absolutely nothing, but still a bit of a head-scratcher.

It's either Electro or Venom whom Topher is playing. My gut feeling tells me that he's playing Eddie Brock. Either way, they won't be able to hide who's he playing when filming starts, somebody will have found proof by then. If not, we'll know if they don't cast someone who's a muscle bound guy (like the size of Flash in SM1/a little older than Peter's age range) before they start filming soon--if they don't, all things point to Topher/Eddie Brock. Being that he's been in a Sony's Press release, he's not playing a minor role.

Forget about Ned Leeds, they've got one Goblin (II), and they wouldn't dare use two.

What?!?!?!?! I thought you had read the advanced script and proclaimed no Goblin in SM3??? What gives? You get an updated script from Sam... Oscar? ;)

Seriously, why is Topher getting bashed when it was Raimi's choice to cast him?

Raimi's getting bashed plenty in his turn, don't worry. However we don't yet know what Raimi has really done here yet. Meanwhile Gopher is "unsafe at any speed," as a villain pretty much, so he's getting most of the heat. In the main, people don't seem to respect him much - a marked contrast to most other villain castings for these films.

If it turns out the worst case scenario is true, I'd imagine Raimi's in for a bit of heat, not only here but... everywhere.

... but where's Harry, if this is film-related? Do we not get Harry at all this time out? I dunno about this.

I could Topher as a villain.Maybe not like any villain we'd imagine, but definitely a "rendition".I don't care for him Venom, but then again I didnt care GG in armor,or Ock being manipulated by his tentacles. There's really not much you do but complain when it comes to things like that because the directors going to do whatever he wants to do.Topher's just coming off the small screen so I can see why he isn't being praised, but I see him pulling off a good Ned Leeds. If he's Venom, then I'm sure he can pull off a nice Rami-style Eddie Brock. It wouldn't be Venom as I or many others would have imagined, but I don't think his acting will completely ruin the movie.

Personally..... I do think whom ever Topher is, he will do a good job. He's really not a bad actor....I think he will be fine. However, he does not fit the bill or have the build to be EB/V. I'm telling you all....... he going to be you know who..... hey, that's just me :)

Yes, but this explains the seductive appeal of these forums. :) Where else can we let off stream about the latest Horrific Happening? Or rejoice at great happenings, like we did last time. OK, -that- was a depressing thought....

I am curious about something. I know this is too late to do this idea.

But remember in part 2, when Peter saw that guy getting beat up, and he just walked away? I think it would have been great if that had been outside the Bugle, and that had actually been Eddie Brock.
And later have peter meet Eddie Brock at the Bugle, and Eddie's like "Hey no hard feelings, dweebs like us aren't meant to fight. But I'm lifting weights, I'm gonna be big" And have that be all the Eddie you show in part 2.

The in part 3 actually set him up for part 4 as Venom. Have the whole Eddie solves a crime, then Spider-Man resolves it, proving Eddie wrong, and all the other stuff, with Eddie's wife leaving him. When Eddie finally becomes Venom, and realizes that Peter is Spider-Man, he remembers hey Pete could have saved me, but he just let me take it. Just a way to add to the hatred, because the current thing just doesn't equal enough hatred in my opinion. You could also have Eddie's wife being a fan of Spidey's, making Eddie jealous.

You could even have a dramatic scene where Venom's face peels back, and asks him why? You took everything from me. You ruined my entire life. My wife's love, my career. Your supposed to be a hero, and you let those guys beat me nearly to death. Why? And then you turned me into this monster. Why did you do that to me? How could you? All that time, I was struggling to make a career, and you rode by easily taking pictures of yourself, and when I finally get a big break, you step in and ruin it for me. What did I ever do to you? You have done everything to me."
And spider-man could have his mask off, and say "I had no idea. Eddie I'm sorry, let me help you, this thing is changing you. I know because, it changed me."
And then they continue fighting. Of course I'm talking late in a movie with Venom, after it's already been established, that Spider-Man can not take Venom, and Venom's bent on killing Spider-Man. Previously you could even show that peter is unaware as to why this Venom is so bent on destroying him.
