The Wachowskis Returning to Sci-Fi with Jupiter Ascending - Part 1

Matrix spin-off animated series in the same vein as the Animatrix?

So with this movie doing so badly, can we say no more Matrix sequels rumors. :o

If anything another matrix movie might be the one thing that can bring them back . Either that or work on a CB movie.
Here's the thing. I'm a fan of these guys. I would watch all of their movies no matter how good or flawed those movies are.
Having said that they have lost pretty much all of the good will from the matrix movies ( and Cloud Atlas).
I dunno if these guys realise that.... I applaud them for not sticking to one particular style thru out their entire career and taking risks. But it will be very very difficult for them to make "their own"movies. No matter how you look at it, fact it unless you have million to spend out of your own pocket you will need investors to fund movies as well make something for an audience. Doesn't mean that it should be a Tom Rothman abomination . To me the Wachowski's seem to forget this fact. Hence the loss of good will. I'm sure people will disagree with me but unless they accept a critical voice who basically tells them "guys we need to tone it done" they are done for.

It's one of the things which i applaud directors like Christopher Nolan and Spielberg that they realise blow up the budget as well as making something for a broad audience.

I will probably give this a watch once it comes out on Blu-ray. Kunis in my eyes = "B" actress, I just can not stand her for some reason and can not accept her in a leading role. Poor casting choice in my opinion. If it was not for her I might have went to see it.

Yeah, I don't really get the love for Kunis. Yeah, she's hot and she works well in some comedic roles, but she's not a great dramatic actress. I still can't fathom why she got an Oscar nom for her role in Black Swan. I didn't find anything about her performance particularly memorable.

But then, we live in a world where Jonah Hill has been nominated twice, so f*** all.

According to the Deadline article, JA was greenlit at the treatment stage -- not the final script. Jeff Robinov signed off on the casting, production design and costumes, but was gone before shooting began. Not only did the film come in over budget (the actual budget is around $205M-$210M rather than $175M), but the Wachowskis got final cut too.

WB will likely use Jeff Robinov as their scapegoat, even though he's at Sony now.

She didn't get an Oscar nomination for Black Swan or any film. Not even the Oscars are that stupid.

I can't recall the last time I revelled in glee at a movie failing. I don't get some of you.

"Original blockbuster property with high sic fi concepts bombing ????"
"YYYYEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! NANANANANANANA HURRRRAAAYYYY !!!!!"

I fail to see anyone happy that it bombed or is bad. I'm sure every person here wanted a good movie. Unfortunately that's not what we got and the box office is reflecting the quality.

Original is a funny word to use for a miscast remixed Matrix rip off.

I enjoyed it I dont think its as bad as people make it out to be.

I wouldn't call it a Matrix ripoff by any means. It's way different in tone, aesthetic, and the universes are quite different despite sharing some Wachowski signatures. Everything has been done, everything has influences. The Matrix wasn't 'original' either, it fused a lot of familiar elements into a pop culture stew. In today's adaptation heavy climate, it's clear what people mean when they say original. Conceived for the screen and nothing else, that's all.

If anything, I think they had come out with a darker, more 'badass' and more Matrix-like sci-fi film, the narrative surrounding the movie might very well have been "return to form for the Wachowskis".

Nothing is original anymore. Nothing. Hell, Inception is ripped off of a Scrooge McDuck comic.

:o

Personally I found Cloud Atlas to be a way more embarrassing film than Jupiter Ascending, Jupiter Ascending is just mediocre leaning bad. I was in far more pain while watching The Amazing Spider-Man 2 to be honest.

Fanboys that can't read BO numbers?

M01uQ6C.gif

The hardcore Wachowski fanboys are just being straight up delusional about JA's box office numbers not being good.

I should have said some Wachowski hardcore fanboys are being delusional.

It's a fact that the film was No.1 at the international box office this weekend.

I never denied that it flopped.

So stop inventing nonsense accusations and grow up.

This is true.

The Wachowskis had a 300 page draft (:wow:) that was greenlit and "fast-tracked." It was sent to cast and crew, and pre-production began based on that draft.

Obviously, that draft was eventually compressed by the Wachowskis into the industry standard 110 pages, but the 300 page version was referred to by all involved as "The Bible" since it contained all the details of the Wachowski-verse.

I'm actually curious to hear about the Wachowskis talk about the apparently rushed process when they start doing publicity for Sens8.

If anything, I think they had come out with a darker, more 'badass' and more Matrix-like sci-fi film, the narrative surrounding the movie might very well have been "return to form for the Wachowskis".

Totally.

I'm not saying the script isn't bad (still haven't seen it), but it's really the goofball tone of the movie that's been rubbing people the wrong way since that first trailer about a year ago.

If they'd gone back to the noirish cyber-cool of The Matrix, I suspect attitudes would have been very different.

Nothing is original anymore. Nothing. Hell, Inception is ripped off of a Scrooge McDuck comic.

And, incidentally, it has more than just a dash of The Matrix in its DNA.

WB are so dumb, they are so very, very dumb.

:lmao:

Hill deserved it for Wolf of Wall Street
That he did. God, what a film.

Nah, this makes me happy. Though it has nothing to do with the Wachowskis. Max and Da_Champion's agenda makes the reviews and box office numbers very enjoyable.

Wow. What a total baby.

Well I stand corrected then. :funny:

Green lighting M night Wachowskis 175 million dollar film based only on a treatment is one of the dumber things that I have heard.

EDIT: I just read Darth's confession. :lmao:

I've expected Jupiter Ascending to flop for many months.

But I feel sorry for you.
