The Wachowskis Returning to Sci-Fi with Jupiter Ascending - Part 1

I will say, being 16...seeing Reloaded for the first time in theaters. When the Burly Brawl happened, me and bunch of people literally stood up out of our seats for a minute. It was unlike anything you'd ever seen at the time, I was just became overcome with giddiness. The full CG shots are definitely cringe-worthy, but I still have a ton of respect for Keanu learning move sequences that long and complex. Badass.

I'll always have a soft spot for the Matrix sequels because they came at a time when I was just coming into my own as a nerd/lover of pop culture and they kind of solidified for me just how much I loved movies and how much joy I could get out of the whole experience...anticipating them, getting into the hype, going to midnight showings, etc. Good times.
The live action Keanu stuff is fantastic. Same with the Seraph and Chateau fights.

I was actually around the same age as you when they came out. One of the first films I followed from start to finish. I enjoyed them much more in the moment then I do now.

I wouldn't go that far. I do think that for 2003 the VFX were quite good.
And you're right. I wasn't disappointed with Reloaded although i will admit its flaws. Still wound up watching Reloaded about 15 times in the cinema :woot:
The problem with the CGI in those shots, is that it was completely unnecessary. A few shots? Yes. But they couldn't just have Keanu fight with the pole the majority of the time? They did the same thing with the Revolutions finale. Just random, unnecessary CGI shots, when CGI clearly wasn't ready for that kind of stuff yet.

Well for 2003, yeah. There's a lot of great CG work in The Matrix movies that hold up really well, but the uncanny valley issue is something we still haven't currently been able to get past with CG. It just takes you out of it when you have a human face go entirely CG no matter what.

I was bothered by obvious shots of CG Superman in Man of Steel too.

The scene in "Tron Legacy" where Clu goes to Flynn's house is stunning. Still can't believe how real he looks in that one scene.

The CGI in the burly brawl sucked even 2003.

But the Chateau fight. Man. It must be the gold standard for fight scenes in Hollywood.

It is truly stunning. Though for my money, I still prefer Anderson v. Smith from the first Matrix. The tension is palpable.

One thing that definately did bother me was just how fat Fishburne got :oldrazz:
Compare his fighting in Matrix 1 with his fighting Matrix 2.

Speaking of the uncanny valley , i was reading the Cinefex issue of Avatar and there was quote of Cameron where said something along the lines of :
"I'm often asked when we are going to see a fully photoreal CG human and my answer is sooner then when we can make CG blue alien look real".

It's not the exact quote but more or less it came down to just getting the Na'Vi to such stage that they were totally believable.
And i'm very curious what Cameron can do with Battle Angel.

We still haven't gotten to a point where you have a (photoreal) CG human doing all kinds these extraordinary motions which actually immerse the audience instead of pulling them back.

That always bothered me too. Considering the meager diets of 'red pills', there was absolutely no in-universe way to rationalize that one, haha.

I liked this movie very much. I'll own it and watch it many more times in the near future. This is all that matters to me, and I won't bother to read the comments before this one. Okay, thanks.

What is bizarre is apparently they were all going all out training for the sequels. I remember some of the old behind the scenes material. They were pushing themselves. I don't know how he gained so much weight.

Yup. I was watching some of the BTS this weekend, and thought the same thing. Though Fishburne seemed to have put on the weight before training started. Wasn't able to take it off I guess.

You know this movie sucked when people are more interested in talking about the Matrix movies haha.

Erotic dramas tend not to be money makers.

Has there been a successful mainstream erotic drama since Basic Instinct?

That last page was ****ing wild. Max had me laughing my ass off. Good show sir.

I'm thinking that was post was intended for the 50 Shades of Grey thread, lol.

OMG, Eddie Redmayne was awesome in this. He was so hilariously over the top and campy, it was great. It's like he realized just what kind of movie he was in and though to himself "lets see just how ridiculously campy I can go before someone stops me." And no one ever did.

I still can't stop laughing at Redmayne's performance. His scenery chewing probably makes Nicholas Cage proud.

Sometimes performances like that are great. Anyone seen Michael Shannon in Premium Rush? Shannon was having himself a wild time on that movie.

I was one of the few who saw Premium Rush in theaters because of my love JGL love. Shannon was totally on 11, way over the top.

I have to make the decision to see this before Friday or probably wait until blu ray. My theater already cutdown on the showings. Decisions, decisions...
