Could someone explain the significance of the helicopter scene?

Rick saw it in the pilot. It was at that same time a few Walkers saw it and started following it for a few weeks or however long has passed. They eventually ended up near the farm where they heard Carl's gunshot. The helicopter is supposed to show up again in season 3.

I was thinking T-Dog. I mean hey, if they need a black guy... but nah, seriously, I don't think Tyreese is going to show up at this point. But it's possible. I do need to stop making paralells to the comic and show like the Tyreese/T-Dog thing. They're two completely different type of characters.

If Daryl goes like Tyreese did, people are gonna be horrified/shocked/pissed all at once.

But that's what TWD is about. Anyone can go and it pulls no punches.

So far, the show has done a pretty good job at that with shocking people.

Man, I really can't wait to see what they do, given the material in this whole Prison/Governer arc and how much they stay true to it. And if they don't, how shockigng it still could be for people. Including myself, which it has been doing so far.

Part of the joy of watching this show is observing the people who haven't read the comic. They're in for a hell of a lot this season and I can't wait to see how they react to this. Same with myself and how they do everything.

Yeah I agree. I do think it pulled some punches in the finale, but that make sense, given the body count that season 3 could possibly have.

And I agree with you about the Daryl thing. I would be completley shocked. Now, I could see it both ways. They still have enough time to introduce Tyreese and make him an interesting character, though I feel like we wouldn't have time to include the arc with his daughter and her boyfriend. However...given how much spare time they had in this season that I felt could have been cut...they may actually be able to fit all that in.

I'm kind of torn between two opinions in this. On one hand, I'd like Tyreese to be included. On the other, I think it could be a good opportunity to make T-Dog a more interesting character, and have him be someone we really care about if he gets his head lopped off by the Governor. Or they'll do it to Daryl for a huge effect.

Either way, we need to care about the character the Governor does it to.

And I'm glad to hear about the 2nd half of TWD comic. I'm very interested in Rick's character and how much TV Rick will follow that same path. I mean, comic Rick does some brutal stuff. Choking out Martinez is one example. I found it hard not to draw parallels to Shane snapping Randall's neck, for basically the same reason: to protect the camp. Now, given, at that point Shane had other motives as well (trying to kill Rick), but his initial reason for wanting to off Randall was the same logic comic Rick adopted when he killed Martinez.

One of the producers on the Talking Dead said it was just to show how a herd forms. With an unintentional hint that there are more survivors

‘The Walking Dead’ Season 3 Will Tackle Controversial Comic Moments

As The Walking Dead heads into season 3, the series will begin its journey down a darker path than viewers of the television series are currently accustomed to seeing. Fortunately, the producers have no intention of changing the extremely polarizing moments from the comics.

Without spoiling what’s to come, it’s safe to say that whatever terrible things you could imagine happening to a group of survivors in a prison setting that has actual prisoners in it do, in fact, happen – as well as many you could have never imagined.

Comic book fans won’t have to worry about The Walking Dead producers trying to lighten up some of the series’ darkest moments, as executive producer Glen Mazzara reveals that he has no intention of shying away from anything in the source material:

“There’s no place we won’t go. Everything is on the table. This is a cutting edge cable drama. I’m comfortable with that material and we answered a lot of these questions on say the Shield and when I worked there, so I’m comfortable dealing with very, very edgy material.

That being said, you want to make sure that things are not gratuitous, that things are not offensive for the sake of being offensive. I don’t ever want the show to get too bleak. I think we’ve done a good job of creating characters that people care about. I think there’s a heart to the show.

So we will, you know, tackle issues in our own way but right now everything is on the table and I think if you take a look at those last few episodes we’ve been making some pretty bold choices and that’s where the show lives and that’s where we will feel we get the most entertainment value out of the story we’re telling.”

While it’s great the producers have no problem tackling any issue, the network may have. With episodes 1 – 8 of The Walking Dead season 3 already pitched to AMC, the producers are waiting for a green light before they can begin writing the episodes. Whether or not any of these episodes contain any of the more “controversial” elements remains to be seen, but they will come up eventually.

And while there will likely be a few viewers that are uncomfortable with some of the upcoming storylines, there’s no doubt that the producers will be able to handle the darker subject matter appropriately – especially one specific interaction between two of the series’ new characters.

For those fans who are still in the dark, I’m sure you’ll find additional information to satisfy your curiosity in the comments below.

Since I doubt we will be arriving at the prison the first 2-3 episodes, they could tackle the suburban house area from the comics that they skipped.

I'm not sure. The Prison looked relatively close. I wouldn't be surprised if they found it at the end of Ep1.

I can't see them holding off on the prison for too terribly long. I imagine they'd want to spend a bit of time on the prison alone, before they get into Woodbury/Governor territory, and since the actor playing the Governor is a series regular next season, I doubt they'd want to hold off on bringing him in for very long.

This is awesome news. I want them to push the limits in season 3. Weak stomachs not welcome.

I want people unfamiliar with the comics to shocked and offended when they see some of the **** that happens in S3.

Laughs are cheap.... I want gasps.

Speaking of laughs bald Glen will look hilarious if they go that route lol.

Yeah, I wouldn't mind them leaving that out.

I really don't feel like seeing Maggie go all G.I. Jane. :o

Can some one give me an example of some of the shocking moments from the comic (in spoiler tags) maybe a small but not major spoiler if thats possible.

Agreed, Maggie is super hot and her hair is already short.

someone very close to Rick dies.

Rick loses a hand

Someone cant deal with their child being a zombie so they keep them chained and is just very creepy in general

2 of those really bother me but imo anything that happens in a prison is bad.

Given the popularity of this thread and the show, shouldn't The Walking Dead have its own forum like Heroes and Smallville did? Then there could be separate threads for those who have read the comics and those who haven't?

This thread just keeps on going, never stopping and everyone would benefit with having a forum to focus on certain topics and discuss each episode and upcoming ones.

I was just thinking this the other day.

^ Yep yep. There's a Transformers board and this thread has waaaaay more activity than those.

It isnt a superhero show (though..Transofmers kind of isnt either)

If Walking Dead gets it's own forum, Rick should be the sole moderator.

One of the most popular shows on television that is based on a comic book, that will have a video game, and has spinoff novels and action figures should have a forum!

One of the subforums of Transformers hasn't had a post in 45 days so no threads show. A lot of forums are slow going with only Avengers, Batman and Spider-Man being popular.

I was just thinking this the other day.

There has been calls for one since before season one premiered. The numbers now show that if given a forum there would be more discussion and a lot of people around the world watch it.

There was a James Bond forum I believe years ago with the reasoning being James Bond was in comics.

If Walking Dead gets it's own forum, Rick should be the sole moderator.

Agreed.

I wonder how the intro will be next season since Shane (forgot his name. Jon?) is gone. Maybe they'll keep the same intro and just put like Glen in the titles. Kinda' like when Rex Lee got the title in Entourage finally.

Well, the opening credits were previously:

Andrew Lincoln (Rick)
Jon Bernthal (Shane)
Sarah Wayne Callies (Lori)
Laurie Holden (Andrea)
Jeffrey DeMunn (Dale)
Steven Yeun (Glenn)
Chandler Riggs (Carl)
Norman Reedus (Daryl)

They've killed off Bernthal and DeMunn. Most likely Michonne will get into the main credits. Maybe Hershel and Maggie. Possibly The Governor.
