The Walking Dead The Walking Dead Season 5 Episode 1 "No Sanctuary" Discussion Thread

And the walker would look at the panel to see what he won the Emmy for. :lmao:

Anyone else really enjoying Carol's continuing evolution? She's come so far since episode 1, but I really love how tough and capable she is. She's definitely gotten to the point where I'm going to feel it if/when she buys it.

She's come a long way and on of the more interesting characters lately. I'll be interested to see if they follow up with her and Rick being at odds or if it will just be brushed off.

Rick was more worried about how Tyrese would treat Carol I think

Situation notwithstanding, they didn't really part on bad terms. That looked like a pretty sincere embrace between the two.

Yeah, it’s over and done with. She brought them to Judith, he can’t still be angry at this point.

There really wasn't much of a chance for him to get into details but that would be a lot of mixed emotions in a matter of minutes . Carol saved them, Tyrese is accompanying her, and Judith is alive.

Watching the encore; those screams in the open take on a more chilling quality now that you know what they are. :(

There must of been some relief to know she was still alive even if she hadn't been the one to rescue them

It really does. Normal violence is one thing that I can tolerate pretty well, but that king? Ugh, my whole stomach goes in knots and I feel sick. That's really rough to rewatch now.

I was just thinking the same thing. It’s sad - they were putting up signs to take people in, and that happened to them.

Doesn’t excuse what they became, but...wow.

Ties in a bit with what Rick did at the end of last season. Mary was Gareth’s mother, and he couldn’t stop them the same way Rick was able to stop Joe’s gang from going after Carl.

Also, the new opening credits have Morgan’s messages from ‘Clear’. And now Morgan’s back!

So none of the group seemed to concerned about Beth's whereabouts not even her sister Maggie. LOL

I had a Glenn/Negan thought when they paused the camera, lined up at the trough. Was damn near expecting it.

Both of those scenes were just way uncomfortable.

At PaleyFest last night, they said that quite a few things that happened in this episode are laying down groundwork for things that are going to happen later this season.

Holy gosh...this opening was awesome...the best so far

Really dig this more "ruthless" Rick.

Watching the encore. Noticed there’s a shot of both Carol and Michonne watching Rick and Carl reunite with Judith. The two moms who lost their own kids.

"He had his hands around Judith's neck."

*Carol says nothing, draws blade and heads forward*

:funny:

I can’t believe Morgan is back. I just can’t.

I saw the whole freaking cast and crew of the show last night, and they didn’t mention that there was even an end credits scene.

And Greg Nicotero said he watched tonight’s episode with Norman Reedus at his house two weeks ago. Apparently Norman was so speechless by it, that when it ended he just got up and left without saying anything. He called him from his car about 20 minutes later to tell him how much he liked it. :funny:

Wow. What a heck of way to open season 5. I'm still taking it all in. That premiere exceeded my expectations. Can't wait to see where this season's headed.

Some quick random thoughts about it..

-That opening was intense and grotesque. Felt like something out of a Hostel movie. Almost thought Bob was going to bite it. Very unsettling.

- Glad they resolved what happened to Sam aka Gotham's Penguin. It was fishy how he disappeared last season just before Rick banished Carol. I still believe he had something to do with his gf getting killed. His cameo though unexpected was CUT short.

- Digging this seasons opening title sequence.

- Carol stole most of the ep until that surprise cameo at the end. She's become one of the toughest characters on the show and could easily hold her own with the best of 'em. She's definitely a survivor who's not afraid to get her hands dirty. She has a bigger pair of cojones than Tyreese, who needs to man up already. Even though I enjoyed the beat down he gave that bubblegum chewing, baby threatening, termite motormouth.

- Goodbye katana. Hope it ain't the last we've and Michonne seen of it.

- And I know that ain't the last they've seen of Gareth. He's going to get his revenge. That's why the group should've listened to Rick and exterminate every single Termite. Don't want another unexpected run in ala Claimers.

- Happy to see the majority of the group reunited. For however long that'll last. Carol's definitely earned her spot back in.

- I was taken aback by the MCU inspired after credits moment. I'm also ambivalent about Morgan returning. I was somewhat at peace with where Morgan ended up at the finale of "Clear" even though it was depressing. But this looks like a more sane Morgan so I'm curious of where the character's headed. Could he run into Gareth and what's left of his Termites?
