The Walking Dead The Walking Dead Season 5 Episode 1 "No Sanctuary" Discussion Thread

1) Good Lord that trough scene was harrowing! I was starting to squirm a little.

2) Carol is awesome.

3) Best season opener since S1.

I think the Terminus squad or what's left of them aren't done yet.

Gareth will be back at least. And if Tyrese didn't kill that guy in the cabin (and it only makes sense that he didn't) he'll be back too.

That trough scene reminded me of a similar scene in The Raid 2.

I really do love what the show runners set out to do with this episode. After a long layoff we are going to show you peril like you haven't seen on this show in quite some time. Then we are going to completely resolve(for the moment) this whole Terminus story AND get the gang back together all by the end of the episode.

And in the middle of it all we are going to show you some bad ass killing and ass whooping!

mission accomplished!

Great opening episode, man that line-up was brutal, really thought one of the gang were going to get it, Carol is awesome, and the gang getting back together at the end was really emotional. Cant wait to see why where this goes from here on out.

I was surprised to see AMC let Scott Gimple have his production company logo (Idiotbox) at the end of the credits this season.

That opening scene was disturbing in every way possible. I agree with the concensus that this was the best episode of TWD in a long long time. This premire left a bigger impression on me than the entire season 2 of Arrow which I've been binge watching over the last week on NF. That says quite a bit because I love Arrow but TWD premire was off the hook. The throat cutting scenes definitly set a new level of what can be shown on network television. I'm actually suprised they were able to go that far.

Hooray TWD is back!

I do wonder why they don't just shoot them in the head.

I guess cause they wanted to make it really disturbing, and push the butchery imagery.

It just makes the Termites seem extra evil.

Never waste a bullet.

Terrific season premiere; as good as the season 4 finale.

Mary's scene with Carol and that final "then" scene were surprisingly emotional, looking forward to Terminus being further explored.

Wow, amazing season premiere. As Whiskey Tango said, it's the best start we've had to a season since season 1. I just hope they keep this up with the rest of the season.

Season 1, despite being very short, has been the best season as it gave with each episode and never dragged on. Season 2 was good, even if the first half was a little slow. Season 3 has been the worst one imo, even though the Governor was great. Season 4 redeemed season 3 with the first half of its season but it all died down in the final half of the season.

I'm glad to see that Season 5 has given us an 'explosive' intro and like I said, I just want them to keep that up. I like how quickly they wrapped up with Terminus, I liked the tender moments between Daryl and Carol and Rick and Carl seeing Judith again and I liked the brutalness in the first few minutes as the throats were slit open (though that was really unexpected).
They need to keep giving with each episode because if the momentum dies down again then it's just going to get disappointing and the show is just going to offer these great episodes every now and again. I'm not saying every episode should have the amount of action that the season premiere did but they definitely need to tell some good stories and flesh out characters more (especially Glenn who hasn't had a lot to do these past couple of seasons).

That was a brilliant season opening. I hope the rest of the season can maintain that level of quality.

Rick had the right idea. It would be sweet karma if the ones that were against finishing them off end up regretting that decision with a death or two in the group

Apparently Glenn and some others didn't learn from the consequences of letting people that are a threat to them live e.g. that prisoner Andrew (from season 3) and later the Gov. Both put the group (especially Rick) through hell when they struck back. He made that mistake before with Shane, Andrew, the Gov., and to a certain extent the Claimers. So yep Rick definitely had the right idea.

Love the ep, but was the editing/timing off to anyone else when Carol set off the explosion..?

From the time she witnesses Rick and co being dragged out of the cars, until the actual explosion, seemed like only a minute;two at the most. Where as the trough scene, Rick's talk with Garath, etc went on for a good five minutes plus, from the inside…

An excellent start to season five and the gore throughout is superb. The second scene where the Terminus people were about to butcher Rick, Daryl, Glen and Bob was tense. Carol to the rescue is awesome and it was nice to see her disguise herself as a zombie. I don't think we've seen that since season one. Speaking of her character has grown a lot since then. The zombie on fire eating someone is one of the coolest visuals this show has done. Rick was a beast when he grabbed that guy's machine gun. Tyreese should have killed that guy first thing but seeing him tackle dude was great. Eugene is such a ********ter. The reunion scenes at the end were genuinely touching. I'm honestly surprised they burned through the Terminus situation so quickly but I loved the pacing and I hope the rest of the season follows suit. It was fantastic to see Morgan return in the post credits scene.
