Well, first, I want to close off a chapter: I never intended to pick up the Joker. I DID in fact fill out an application, for effect. My sample post would have had the Joker declare that this was a one-time thing. Thing is, with me being gone for the weekend, I didn't actually expect to make it. If I had though, I would've waited for you to post, EBJ. You don't have to believe me, and feel free to think I'm a jerk, but this is just an explanation. It was 'easy' to use you to prove my point about reserving characters. Ragging on Byrd on MB would've caused a bit too much of a fuss, but this allowed me to get the full effect from it.
Now, first off, my application:
I'll be applying for Sgt. Vincent Del Arrazio soon.
Now, first off, my application:
"Gotham City Noir" RPG Application
Screenname: Harlekin.
Gothamite: The Joker.
Class: Rule Breaker.
Resume: The Joker is Batman's chief antagonist. The Joker started off as the Red Hood, until a confrontation with the Batman led him to take a bath in chemical waste, forever altering his skin and turning him insane. Since then, there has not been one specific Joker. The Joker is a mad mad clown who understands the joke of life and wakes up each day, reinventing himself. With the Joker, you'll never know what the punchline is.
Factoids of interest: Behind the insanity of the Joker, there lies a brilliant man. The clarity he has found in his unique state has given him the ability to create devices unable to be made by ordinary men. He has no association witht the morals of our society, or any, for that matter. The Joker simply is.
He's perenially clothed in purple, often in fine tailored suits. It's rare that the Joker is not dressed immacutely. His suit serves as a repository to a literal arsenal of lethal weaponry though. Joy buzzers that deliver a fatal shock, flowers that squirt the "Joker venom", which makes the victim's face contort into a sickly grin and become insane as well.
The Joker is a very bad bad man.
Known associates: Punch & Jewelee (henchmen).
Three integral reasons behind choosing the character:
1. If you're a Batman fan and you like playing villains, it's almost impossible not to want to play the Joker, at least for a short stint: to see if you can. He's a very hard character to grasp.
2. Can Bruce Timm's version be combined with the Batman Begins version? Can you pull the cartoon's characterization into the noir world? Can you make the Joker fun in a bleak dark world? Another challenge, another reason to play the character.
3. He's insane. There's nothing that can't be done with that. The depths of good and bad can be explored to the fullest. The Joker has a very philosophical quality to him that can really come to the forefront in a noirish setting. Where's the line?
Please provide a brief explanation behind your character's motivations:
He's batty, basically. It's almost futile to try and understand the Joker's motivations. Only the Joker knows why he does the things he does. Everything, including life and death, are a joke to him, and he's the comedian. It's his job to make you laugh. Are you laughing yet? No, then I guess he'll have to kill you. Whatever the Joker finds funny, he'll do, and the Joker has a very wide sense of humour.
