The "Why So Serious? Gotham City Noir" RPG: Sign-Up/OOC Thread

Hey guys, just letting you know I will be a little less active this week, finals are kinda kicking my ass right now, but I will probably make another post soon. :)

By the by, I think it's handy to establish some things beforehand. For example, in Byrd's latest post he talks about the breaking of organized crime. The three organisations he refers to are Falcone, Maroni and Thorne. Cobblepot is hinted at, but he's not a member of the real Mafia (nor would Thorne). Seeing as Gotham is essentially a darker grimmer New York, there should actually be about five families running things.

- Falcone
- Maroni
- Inzerillo
- ???
- ???

This excluding all the other organisations in Gotham. I'd like to establish something like the greater mob beforehand though, so we have something to go off from. This also leads to the following question: We're not supposed to refer to any of the other DC cities (although that's already happened with Metropolis), but what about Blüdhaven, essentially the New Jersey to Gotham's New York?

Maybe we could fit Tony Zucco in there somewhere. I agree with what you're saying about Thorne, he's a gangster, but he just seems too WASPish to be La Cosa Nostra

FBI FILES - THE FIVE FAMILIES OF GOTHAM CITY

- The Falcone family
Currently in disarray, the Falcone family was originally headed up by Carmine "The Roman" Falcone. It seems that the vigilante Batman has a personal vendetta against this family, having worked hard to break up the organisation, even before the death of Carmine. Alberto Falcone, the Roman's son, recently returned. What role he will play is uncertain.

- The Maroni family
Succeeding his father Luigi "Big Lou" Maroni, Salvatore Maroni runs a tight ship. With the Falcone family out of the works for a while and the Zucco family just up and running, Maroni is undoubtedly the most powerful mob boss in Gotham. The other families are just too minor to resist. Maybe we could guide the Bat to Maroni. Sal seems to like the high life.

- The Zucco family
Headed up by Tony Zucco, currently spending time in jail on a weapons charge. Expected to be out in a few months. Originally a member of Maroni's family but was able to convince a few members of the broken Falcone family to join his side. His right-hand man Edward Skeevers runs things in Zucco's place. The anomisity between Maroni and Zucco has simmered to a truce, but one that could break at any time.

- The Inzerillo family
The family with the least public exposure. Jack Inzerillo has made sure that his family stays out of the limelight, thereby avoiding the GCPD and Gotham's vigilantes. Sources in both the GCPD and the criminal circuit say there's a Detective with ties to the family: Detective Sergeant Vincent Del Arrazio. He's a cousin to Jack. He could be useful; he's worked with us before.

- The Moxon family
This family's business has been slow for a while now, but the return of Lew Moxon, the boss, chances are that is about to change. Rumours are abound about the potential succesor to the aging mob boss. Moxon has relatively legit ambitions, having a failed career in politics and spending some time amongst the rich and famous of Gotham before going into exile.

Excellent summary. I'm gonna have a sort of civil war within the Falcone family, with Alberto as a neutral bystander.

"Gotham City Noir" RPG Application

Screenname:
Apprentice

Gothamite you would like to portray: Rachel Dawes

Class of society: Law Enforcer

Resume: A childhood friend of Bruce Wayne, Rachel's life forever changed when the millionaire's parents were murdered; her mother, an employee of the Waynes, moved to find other employment and Bruce became distant and lonely. As she grew up, she entered law school and began active training at Gotham City's District Attorney Office. Her friendship with Bruce seemingly came to a final end when she discovered his intentions to murder Joe Chill...however, years later, he returned to Gotham and things became even more complicated when she realised that he was the vigilante Batman. Having faced down the likes of the Scarecrow and endured the horrors of the Slums riot, she is determined to use her power as Assistant DA to eliminate crime within the city.

Factoids of interest: Assistant District Attorney

Known associates: Her fellows at the DA Office.

Three integral reasons behind choosing the character:
1. I have some plans for her that will build her into a stronger character.
2. As with the female protagonist of any superhero story, Rachel tends to be portrayed as the damsel in distress - I want to veer her onto a different path.
3. Someobdy's gotta keep Byrd's Batman in line...

Please provide a brief explanation behind your character's motivations: As stated previously, Rachel has a strong moral code and is willing to make sacrifices to eliminate crime from Gotham City. Her resolve to do so has only increased with her knowledge of Bruce's alter ego.

Damn, homie. You don't play with this crime fiction

Good job on that Five Families post, Harl. It got me thinking - is Boss Maroni free? We need some players to fill out the organised crime networks of Gotham, and I'm already playing Maroni as an NPC in 1U. Perhaps something to consider...

EDIT: Damn, just saw he was taken on the last page! This game just doesn't want me in it. :( Oh well...

Maroni's being played by batman11. Sorry, Soze. I know the roster hasn't been updated with that information yet.

Thanks Keyser.

So, MB, when can we expect a roster update?

There we are.

Hopefully I didn't miss anything.

Yeah, you did.

Detective Sergeant Vincent Del Arrazio
Alias: Vincent Del Arrazio
Occupation: Police Sergeant
Associates (Attached NPC's): Joely Bartlett (partner)
Portrayed by Harlekin

I'll use my app post in the IC today, and hopefully get another up also.

There's a lot of scary talk about this rpg, making it sound like the BB rpg, not the noir rpg, anyone else notice that?

That's because it's basically a BB RPG with a noir theme rather than a noir RPG.

That's because it's basically a BB RPG with a noir theme rather than a noir RPG.

But still, the first post mentioned the continuity being loosely based off of BB, but generally the feel was darker and more in line with the older batman comics :)

BTW, when is the second character allowed? Just for reference.....

Basically. Wouldn't be bad to stick to one character for a while though.

I agree that sticking to one character is good, I do have decent plans for a second however, so filling the quality and quantity quote alright :)

By the way, if any of you do-gooders are disillusioned into believing that The Joker will be in Arkham for long...reality is going to laugh in your face!

:hoboj:

On careful inspection of the new TDK trailer I have this to say.

EBJ you lucky ****ing bastard. You get to play that... I mean.

That was immense. "C'mon HIT ME!"

Lord Doom

Gothamite you would like to portray: Richard "Dick" Grayson

Class of society: (Choose one) Guardian

Resume: (Brief character biography)
Dick Grayson is a member of the Flying Graysons, a circus trapeze act.
The Grayson's are residents of Gotham City, but left to join the circus as they toured the country. Now the circus is preparing to perform in Gotham, and Dick and his family have returned to their hometown to practice up. At night, Dick enjoys leaping from the rooftops of Gotham just to feel the incredible sensation of freedom it gives him. At times, he even puts himself in danger by helping the innocent in need during his nightly romps.
Factoids of interest: (Special attributes - IE: Weapons, attire... anything needed to be known) Dick has is an amazing acrobat and trains his body regularly. He also practices martial arts by watching Bruce Lee films.

Known associates: (NPC's needed to be attached to your character)
John Fredrick Grayson and Mary Lloyd Grayson (parents)
Three integral reasons behind choosing the character: 1. 2. 3.
1. I like him as a character.
2. I've got some neat ideas for him
3. I just plain felt like playing as him.
Please provide a brief explaination behind your character's motivations (ex: What does he/she believe in? How does he/she connect with Gotham City? What grinds your character's gears?):
Dick has a strong belief in defending those who cannot defend themselves. He's still a kid, so his sense of right and wrong are still a bit shaky, but he knows a criminal when he sees one. He hates feeling restricted and loves freedom.
File Headshot: (A picture if your character, if applicable)

Please provide a small sample post, in the format you plan to portray this identity, with three paragraphs at minimum:

Dick felt the brisk night breeze against his face as he leaped off another rooftop. This was great exercise, but his mother would be having a fit if she knew what he was doing. Dick leaped off the edge of the roof, grabbed a nearby fire-escape, and swung off of it. He did a triple back-flip and landed perfectly on his feet.

"Ta-daa!" he shouted at no one in particular. Then he bowed to an invisible audience amd began blowing kisses.

"Thanks folk, I'll be here all week."

Dick spotted a flag-pole and smirked. He got a good running start and went for it. Effortlessly, Dick leaped off the rooftop, grabbed the pole, and began swinging.

"And the crowd goes WILD!!"

Suddenly, the pole lurched downward.

"Uh-oh..."

The pole snapped out of its place and Dick plummeted to the alley below.

"Aw SHCIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIT!!!!"

Dick managed to grab onto a window ledge and saved himself. He let out a gasp of relief.

"Close one."

Then Dick felt the pain in his shoulder.

"Ouch! Must've dislodged something... Man, mom's gonna KILL me!"

Dick brought himself up to his feet, brushed himself off, and climbed down the building in pain. He then walked down the streets and attempted to hail a taxi. but none seemed to be availible. That's when Dick noticed the sidnal, the giant bat the pierced the night sky. It was something Dick had never seen before.

"Awesome..." he gasped.
