The "Why So Serious? Gotham City Noir" RPG: Sign-Up/OOC Thread

Are we familiar with the notion of a femme fatale? One of the more key aspects of film noir......
*cough* Catwoman *cough*

Besides, Ivy has powers...something that is generally frowned upon in this RPG.

Doesn't mean you have to use them, and her poison element could easily be morphed into her use of poisons, rather than bodily secretions of them, wow she's awesome......now I want her....lol

Then get an app up.

We've also got a Mr. Freeze, so I wouldn't exactly say powers are frowned upon.

I've talked to Byrd and MB about a guy I wanted to pick up in here. I think I'll apply for him now but I doubt I'll get to post as him til after Christmas.

BL already got an application up, so his approval is pending.

Well, powers are frowned upon in other Heroes. And it's yet to be seen if Freeze or Ivy use powers.

Yeah, exactly. BL expressed an interest, but didn't put up an app yet.

First Victor post up tomorrow. I've been working on it a lot since I got approved, trying to make it as good as possible. Y'know the saying: start as you mean to go on, 'n' all that.

Screen name: Syn (Mercenary)

Gothamite you would like to portray: Lloyd Ventrix

Class of society: (Choose one) Rule Breaker

Resume: (Brief character biography) Lloyd Ventrix was a simple working man. He went to work eight hours a day to provide for his family, and came home. But he soon realized his job wasn’t paying off. The bills began piling up, and his debts began to increase. With the addition of his newly born daughter to his family, he knew they would never be able to make it much longer. It was then that Lloyd made the hardest decision of his life to become a criminal.

Lloyd’s first robbery was that of a convenience store. After his heist, he suddenly felt a feeling he had never felt before. Thrill. The thrill of the crime, the thrill of it all. Lloyd began to commit more thefts, becoming better and better. As the money rolled in, he soon found a new satisfaction in himself. He lied to his wife, and told her it was merely a new raise he had been given at work. His wife was ecstatic, and soon their bills and debts disappeared.

Just as things seemed like they couldn’t get any better for the Ventrix family, tragedy struck. Lloyd’s daughter developed cancer. Lloyd was devastated. Even with the money he earned from his robberies, he could never pay for the medical care it would take to care for his child. Lloyd new he would have to go the next step. His next theft would have to be big.

Lloyd went to the Central Gotham Bank ready to pull of the crime of his life. But, he was just one man, and an ill prepared one at that. Police were able to detain him as he tried to exit the bank, trapping him inside. As he hastily exited through one of the back doors, a sniper shot him in the shoulder, knocking him to the ground. He was arrested, and tried in front of a court. Upon further investigation, they discovered he was behind many other robberies in the past year.

Lloyd was found guilty, and sent to jail for twenty years. About a month after his incarceration, he received a letter from his attorney informing him his wife had filed for divorce and a restraining order had been put into action between him and his daughter. Lloyd fell into a deep depression in jail. All he could think about was the health of his daughter, and how remorseful he was that he could never see her.

It is now fifteen years later, and Lloyd has been released from jail on parole for good behavior. He has gotten an apartment, and is now working for a research company as an errand boy. Lloyd is now trying to make a name for himself, and turn over a new leaf in hopes of earning back his ex-wife’s trust. But how long will it be before the urge and desire to steal once again sets in? Only time will tell.

Factoids of interest: (Special attributes - IE: Weapons, attire... anything needed to be known) Nothing as of now. But soon he will come across a suit that allows him to become invisible to the human eye.

Known associates: (NPC's needed to be attached to your character) Kimberly Ventrix (daughter) Helen Ventrix (ex-wife) Dr. Sam Giddell

Three integral reasons behind choosing the character: 1. 2. 3.
1) This guy had a pretty interesting episode in the TV series. As soon as I watched it I thought, “Wow...this could be cool for Gotham Central.”

2) He has only had one appearance, and leaves a lot to explain.

3) I have faith in my ability to make him a pretty interesting character in this RPG, instead of just a common crook.

Please provide a brief explanation behind your character's motivations (ex: What does he/she believe in? How does he/she connect with Gotham City? What grinds your character's gears?): Lloyd’s motives are relatively simple. He wants to provide for his daughter, and still keep in contact with her despite his wife’s feelings. The only way he can do these things is by breaking the law. Everything he does is for his daughter, and he will let nothing get in his way.

Please provide a small sample post, in the format you plan to portray this identity, with three paragraphs at minimum:
I walk into the lab room slowly, holding my black bag under my arm. As I look around the room, I see Doctor Sam Giddell working furiously at one of the tables. He’s always working like this. He hates to be disturbed when he’s this enveloped in his work but I know he has those samples that need to be delivered, and I’m on the clock.

“Dr. Giddell?” I yell out to him.

“What?” He says as he turns away from his work. “Oh, it’s you Lloyd. How are you today?”

”Pretty good, sir. You have those samples?”

“Ah, why yes I do. Here you are.” He picks up a box from the table and walks over to me. He carefully hands me the box as he smiles.

“What’s in this?” I ask curiously.

“A new project I’m working on.”

“Can I get a sneak peak?”

“Ha, ha. Sure.” He says with a hearty laugh. He pats me on the back, and points to the box in my hands. “It’s part of a new invisibility project I am working on.”

“Invisibility?” I ask with a confused tone.

“Yes, invisibility. It’s a material that can refract the light of anything it is put on, making it undetectable by the human eye.”

“Sounds pretty high tech.” I say with a smirk. “What’s it for?”

”Wayne Enterprises has been funding this experiment for three years now. It’s part of a new program they are building for the military. You can imagine how useful this could be for soldiers in the field.”

“Wow.” I say dumbfounded. “That’s quite impressive. You could go anywhere, do anything…take anything…”

“What was that?” He asks as he adjusts his glasses.

“Oh nothing.” I say with a smirk. “Where did you want me to take these samples?”

“Take them to Wayne Enterprises. They need to be tested more there.”

“Will do, sir.” I say with a small laugh. “Will do.”

Approved. :brucebat:

Gee, that was quick.
Just razzin ya. Thanks.

Well I'll be generous and see if BL is certain he wants to pick up Ivy, if he decides not, then I'll put up an app, but I'll let him have a think first.

Another Riddler post up, really trying to show this story in a different way to the usual RPG style, hope you like it.....:)

Cyrus, you accidentally posted an OOC message in the IC. In any case, nice Riddler post.

MB, mind moving his OOC reply to this thread?

Hey The Penguin is out of town for the next week...but don't worry he'll be back next Tuesday to cause more trouble and really start making life hard for the law & order sect of Gotham.

I'm tempted to have The Joker sing Christmas music while waiting for Harvey Dent to arrive. But that would be such a forced yuletide post.

Okay, I'm back, the problem with my laptop isn't completely fixed yet but it's working so far so, if I vanished, the cable to my laptop messed up again... anyone know where I get find those for cheaper? Its an HP Pavillion dv2000... sorry about the OT but... yeah.

Can someone add me to the roster as Lloyd Ventrix please?

So, a funny thing just happened to the description of the Batman on the front page...

By the by, wouldn't it be more logical to have Albert Falcone be the Alter Ego of The Roman's Son rather than the reverse? It's done that way with all the other characters.
