CD Projeckt Red The Witcher 3

Did the developers make good on their claim that you dont need to have played the other games to understand Witcher 3? They said this is the perfect jumping point for the series. Is that true or just fluff they put out there?

Eh, a little of both IMO. I will NEVER believe developers/publishers that make the claim that the final entry is the "perfect jumping in point". Thats BS, the perfect jumping in point is at the damn beginning or at very least the previous game. I said the same thing when Bioware claimed ME3 was the perfect time to pick up the series.

With that said, this game does a decent job of at least introducing you to the world, in a better way than Assassins of Kings did. It eases you into the mechanics with an excellent tutorial. So by the time you are put out on your own, you at least of a small understanding how how this world operates.

But i still don't believe this is the perfect jumping in spot as there are faaaar too many big relationships and quests that revolve around Geralts past that would just sail over ones head who is just now coming to the story. It wont have nearly the impact.

Thanks. I have Witcher 2 and thought Id finally try and play it but Im not really feeling the camera or controls and finding it a bit difficult. Without any affinity for this character or series, I dont really feel compelled to play through it. I think I will leave it alone and just try and play 3 and if I fall in love with that, maybe that will give me the urge to playthrough its backstory

Witcher 2 tied a knot on the story it had. The biggest things about what happened there that lead to the third game is Geralt getting his memory back, and the impending war. Mastering the combat in that, also translates well into the third game, since the style and approach one needs to develop in enemy encounters wind up being the same kinds of tactics you use in the third.

I think the lore is probably more important, in terms of understanding who these people are, and their relationship with Geralt.

But, you could definitely work your way back. The books and the games are so much alike, that if you like the universe and the characters in the game, then you'll dig the novels and the previous games. The Witcher 3 does about as perfect a job as anyone, any storyteller in any medium whatsoever, can possibly do in telling and showing you who these characters are, how they are, and what their relationship is to Geralt. They've done a wonderful job with the storytelling on informing people who are new. I've seen some people, who know nothing about the character or the universe, make accurate and true observations through the storytelling in the game.

Yeah I'm glad I at least played through Witcher 2 to understand who most of the main characters are but even more importantly to understand the back story of the war and the politics of the land, I would imagine that might get a little tricky to follow in Witcher 3 especially when the conversations start getting deep into it but there is a good plenty of literature and books in the game itself which help explain the situation to newcomers. I have picked up enough bits and pieces about the first story now too which I never got play.

The only thing that may be lost on me is that I have more of an emotional tie between Geralt and Triss than I do Geralt and Yen, having not played the first game at all.

I played like 4 hours of Witcher 2 back when it was $5 and never touched it again. I loved it but at the time I just didn't get around to finishing it. So far with Witcher 3 I have already like 30+ hours logged in, haha. The story does seem complex and some things are lost on me, but between the books you find, the dialogue, and various recap vids on YouTube, I haven't been that lost.

Plus it kind of adds to the world when there are things going on out there that I don't understand. You just go with it. This is one of the best games I've played. Dat beard growth feature.

The Witcher

The Witcher was originally an isometric ARPG without Geralt

The Witcher has cemented itself as one of the world's most beloved 3rd person RPGs, but this wasn’t always its destiny. Back in 2002 when CD Projekt were first developing a game based on The Witcher books, their first vision for the game was an isometric APRG far closer to Diablo than the game we know today.
The first game’s former project lead Ryszard Chojnowski has shown off the original prototype. Come take a look.

Maybe we can get a "horn dissappearin" feature in MGSV.. like the beard growth in this game...

My friend who always enjoyed the Witcher games but tends to be terrible finally figured out the game.

"Wow.. Who'da thunk that if I just hold block in battle and not rush in like an idiot i would die a lot less often."

Lololol.

I've never played the first two games and understood the story perfectly fine.

Just beheaded a dude in front of his son, think I might be going to "Witcher hell". :csad:

They started it first to be fair though :sly:

I got the ghost lamp from Kiera, but then it seemed like the mission ended. What am I supposed to do with it?

Just getting into the swing of things with this game. Enjoying it so far. The only distracting glitch I've come across so far (and it's pretty annoying) is that whenever I pause the game or enter the menu - every character in the game, including Geralt, appears wet. Has anyone else experienced this??

Ah, I found the mission and the true purpose for this lamp.

PS4. I've checked youtube and apparently it is a common problem and will be addressed in another patch.

So...after spending 30 hours in the game so far (I will likely finish the game at nearly 150 hours I bet) I have to say that this game raises the bar for RPG's in terms of open world and story telling. The next Elder Scrolls or Dragon Age games have A LOT to prove now.

Ah thats why I have yet to see it then. Yeah there is a few things that need ironing out no doubt, always happens in games this size I guess sadly.

so have they fixed the small text size issue yet?

Level 17 and still havent gotten a boat to Skillige. How far along is everyone else?

Level 17? Geez. Admittedly, I still haven't taken that boat either but I'm only level 12.

Yeah, Ive cleared every question mark in Velen, Novigrad and White Orchard. Well, every ? that isnt guarded by a high level beast.

I'm level 13 right now myself. Trying to find that ****eson guy at the moment. I gotta say, I haven't played the other games but it seems there's a much more natural chemistry between Geralt and Triss than him and Jennifer, at least from what I've seen so far.

Level 5 or 6.:O I haven't played it much. Been busy with work and Bloodborne arrived yesterday and I spent last night building my character for that and getting a feel for that game.

Just got to 17 myself but still have stuff to do in White Orchard, lol. This game is so huge and has a mini-game so distracting I may have played that more now than actually the main game itself. Rocking full Ursine gear now though :sly:

Thing is Yennifer is more prominent in the books and the first game which a lot of people coming into this wouldnt know about so the connection to Yen is thin for them.

Triss was the main love interest in W2 which I and a lot of others first started playing this franchise on so like you Triss stands out as more connected to Geralt.

I just got to 20 myself, after the first quest on Skillige. Now I need to take some Witcher contracts to get the coin required to get the upgrades needed for my enhanced Feline armor.

40 plus hours in, still look at this game with the same child like wonderment I did when I first booted it up. Easily, easily the greatest gaming experience to date on the new platforms. 2015 off to an awesome start with many more awesome games to come.
