Rockstar Red Dead Redemption

A lot of people are complaining that this is a straight port and not a remaster/remake. It's justified but personally I don't even care, I'm just looking forward to playing it again without having to break out my old Xbox 360. Is $50 a bit steep for a 13 year old game? Sure, but there might be a sale around the holidays.
The price isn't for me, so I will wait til its under $40 like GTA Trilogy.

I don't mind if this is just a straight port. I haven't played the game since I didn't have a ps3, so at least I will now have an option to play it. I just hope there's a waypoint for the map.

I hope GTA IV is neXt. La Noire/GTA V/GTA Trilogy/Rdr2 are sitting together in my shelf, so I need the other two Rockstar games on disc!

I'm with you on GTA IV, a PS4 port should have happened a long time ago. This RDR 1 release gives me hope that we could see the same thing with GTA IV for PS4 and Switch.

I am hoping the reception for this port is much better. We'll know in 10 days.

The reception for GTA trilogy remaster, kinda killed a ps4 GTA IV port, based from reports. But it looks like Rockstar isn't totally giving it up, since they are porting another old game. Anyway, its only 1 game and GTA will always sell.

It's been 13 years since I last played this, so I'll be picking it up regardless of price. I will say, it's funny watching so many people on twitter crapping on Rockstar saying they're not even excited for the next GTA including the youtube grifters when you know damn well they're gonna forget all about this once that GTA 6 teaser drops.

They should have started out with a GTA IV port before even thinking about remastering GTA Trilogy.

Actually remastering the trilogy themselves instead of handing it off to a smaller team that had already mishandled those games in the past also would've helped, the trilogy remasters should've been an easy win for R*.

Whats funnier is they also remastered GTA V for the PS5.

So its like GTA IV is continuously being ignored. We should find out in the neXt few months, if this changes. Aside from MaX Payne 3, there isn't a lot more they could port to ps4/5.

Though I'd like a remaster for Liberty City Stories and Vice City Stories as well since I played those. But they aren't essential as GTA IV which featured a much different map.

If they knock the price down significantly that might smooth things over a bit. The backlash wouldn't have been as bad if the price was $30 at most.

Iirc Gta trilogy was $60 dollars but those are 3 games and were all remastered. This one is a straight up port? No changes at all when it was released 13 years ago. I'm assuming 4K HD is the only improvement.

Its another disappointing re-release, but then again I'm patient when it comes to games dropping their prices. The most important thing is it will be finally playable those (like me) who have missed it, two console generations ago.

But if they remastered this, it probably looked a lot better than San Andreas remaster.

In a perfect world we'd have gotten a remake for PS5/Series X/S using the RDR2 engine and character models. All the assets are pretty much there, they'd just have to build out Mexico.

Rockstar needs to stop remaking s**t and focus all their efforts on getting a new GTA out sometime this decade

The only, and I mean only reason they get a pass for how long it's taken GTA VI to come out is Red Dead Redemption II being one of the greatest games of all time. But even then, that came out five years ago. They've definitely wasted too much time and effort on GTA Online and making GTA V available across three console generations.

Ports of games that are currently unplayable on PS4/PS5 like RDR1 and GTA IV shouldn't take much effort at all for them by comparison.

GTA VI should come out by late 2024 or early 2025. It doesn't feel too long from now.

Anyway these ports are way overdue. I don't think Rockstar is spending their precious times porting or remastering these games anyway. GTA Trilogy iirc was outsourced and this one isn't even a remaster. They are basically cash grabs with minimal effort. They couldn't even package the GTA Trilogy nicely. Mafia Trilogy's packaging is sublime in comparison.

GTA Online is pretty much the sole reason why there hasn't been a new GTA game in almost 10 years. RDR2 is the inbetween game but I don't see why would Rockstar take so long to release another GTA game, if they weren't so devoted to GTA Online.

GTA Online's success is the single worst thing that could've happened to R*. Not financially of course, but creatively. They've become lazy, the quality and quantity of their output has plummeted. I'm convinced that the main reason RDO got dropped was because it became clear Red Dead fans were going to hold their game to an actual standard and not just open their wallets for whatever dogs*** R* happened to churn out, it would've taken actual effort for RDO to be made profitable and they couldn't be bothered. GTAO has taught them they have a massive fanbase in GTA who will open up their wallets for subpar content time and time again no matter how blatant it becomes that they're taking advantage of their consumers. I am genuinely concerned for GTA VI at this point, because either they've just put all their actual talent on one project and only care about new singleplayer games and everything else has suffered for it, or they've just stopped caring entirely.

Red Dead Redemption 3 Development: Is It Really Happening?

I hope this isn't true. I prefer if Rockstar moves forward with a new IP after GTA VI, instead of RDR3. Red Dead Redemption 2 was awesome but after I beat the game, I didn't really go back to it. Its just not the type of game backdrop I want to go back over and over again. I'm literally playing GTA V right now, and I couldn't muster reinstalling RDR2. Something different to their eXisting IPs would be way more interesting and refreshing, preferably a sci fi game set in a very futuristic Earth (no aliens though).

I'd welcome a Red Dead Redemption 3 that follows Sadie and Charles as playable characters after the events of RDR 2.

The thing that would grab me about a RDR3, if the map isn't going to be 60% barren. But I think like RDR1, it would probably be set around the time period to keep the western vibe. So there's going to be a lot of open spaces and the only thing you would see there other than trees and open field vegetation, are human enemies (and wild animals) that will randomly pop out of nowhere. I hated those in RDR2. There was a time my horse was killed during an ambush and i didn't know what to do, so I lost my first horse at that time.

I liked the story but the open world was pretty dire.

Good that they've added that, still inexcusable that it didn't launch with 60fps, but better late than never I guess.

I finally got this for about 35 American dollars. At first I was hesitant to buy this, since I wanted to buy this for a much cheaper price especially this is originally a 2010 PS3 game, that isn't really remastered for the PS4. But I also don't have anything new to play right now and its a Rockstar game, and I would have bought this many years ago if they only released this many years ago for the ps4.

I have only played about 30 minutes today, and even though it is showing its age in the cutscenes, I'm a bit surprised this still looks quite presentable, especially for an unremastered PS3 game ported for the Ps4. The lighting looks quite good. I think I would take my time diving into the RDR Saga once again. I'll try to remember/refresh my memories what happened in RDR2, if there are certain connections to this game that I need to know while playing this.

Nothing you need to know about the 2nd game when playing this. It's more like playing the second game will bring back some memories of this one, than the other way around.

Okay long thoughts about RDR1. This is my first game this 2024. If this was ported to the ps4 many years ago, I would have played this first before RDR2, which I played in 2019. This game obviously trigged my memories from playing RDR2, especially areas like Hennigan's Stead, MeXico and Blackwater. In RDR1, MeXico looks the best which looked great in RDR2. Those mountains are good looking.

I focused on the main story missions. I mostly ignored the "stranger" missions, though I finished some of those and hideouts, which gave me eXtra trophies. Aside from Rdr2, this reminded me of the Mafia games and LA Noire. I really felt that this was made at the same time as LA Noire. Their graphics are almost on par with each other.

I don't remember a lot about John in RDR2 aside from I played him after Arthur died. 2019 is like light years ago for me, so at first I didn't care much about the story here. I instantly remembered Dutch when he showed up. I was surprised how short his screentime was. Then when John's family showed up towards the end. It made me a bit nostalgic about RDR2. I went to YouTube to watch the ending of Rdr2 and to see if there were other characters in RDR2 that were in RDR1, and there were two gang members I don't remember from RDR2. RDR2 has a really good story and it is much deeper and has a lot more weight compare to RDR1, and its weird that continuation to the story of RDR2 isn't as well developed and fleshed out. I know it would be impossible for Rockstar, but RDR1 should have been remade, so it would be on par with RDR2 - gameplay, story, graphics. I feel like RDR2 is 9.5 while RDR1 imo, is 7.8 at its best.

To be honest, I didn't really enjoy RDR1. The open world is pretty barren. I feel like this is missing that "sense of fun". RDR2 grabbed me with its story. The story of RDR1 didn't grab me until towards the end when more familiar faces showed up. Even though there's so much more I could do here, the environment of this game didn't entice me to do all the things possible in the game. Its like the complete opposite of GTA and I just wasn't satisfied with the game. I wasn't a bit disappointed when I could no longer use John after the final story mission. Aside from triggering the actual ending, I used Jack for some "stranger"missions.

Rockstar should have remastered this or at least, put some new touches to this to modernize it a bit. The cutscenes look quite rough especially the textures. Even though this doesn't look bad, it does look like an early 2010s game and in 2022-23, Rockstar should have given effort. For a straight up PS4 port, this should have been out in 2013 to 2017. I just don't know why it took them this long, if they weren't even going to remaster it. There were rumors for a remaster, that it was canceled because of the poor reception for GTA Trilogy Definitive Edition, but I played that collection last year and imo, it was fine and they should remastered RDR1 (and GTA IV) as well. I also found out it annoying when missions failed because of the NPCs. There was a mission which I failed because the horse got stuck in a horse and couldn't get away from that rock. Another, Jack's horse suddenly jumped in the river. Another one, this long mission which I had to restart - the enemies were shown in the radar but they weren't actually there for 5 minutes. Another was Uncle suddenly disappeared when I was catching horses shown in the map so I had repeat that annoying "calm the horse" part which is my least favorite thing to do in the game.

Over all, I liked I finally experienced the first RDR to judge it for myself. Maybe I have played so many games in the ps4 that I don't see the big fuzz about the first RDR. It was just a 7.8 for me, but I'm still giving it eXtra credits, since this led to RDR2 which is a much better game. Also, I don't want a RDR3, I feel like the story of these games are tragic and not really uplifting. The setting alone (late 1800s/early 1990s wild west) is just not my type and I really get immerse when I play videogames. I feel like I would have been either bored with my life or a mess (like these characters) if I was living in that time period and that crossed my mind when playing RDR. I want something more fun from Rockstar like GTA, so I don't want another RDR3. Though I would probably play it if it gets made.
