CD Projeckt Red The Witcher 3

The callbacks are fantastic.

I couldn't stop laughing after reading the letter from Yen that Gearlt had in his inventory at the very start of the game. The whole "My dear friend" callback from that unfortunately worded letter in the books that Geralt regretted using when she wrote back to him using "my dear friend" in the most passive aggressive manner I've ever seen anyone use that term before.

The rose of remembrance from Witcher 2, as well. That was pretty nice.

I was listening to the Blood of Elves audiobook and had sort of zoned out when the book got to the letter and missed who the letter was from. Then I noticed it was ridiculously passive aggressive and was thinking that has got to be from Yen. The audiobook narrator made it even more passive aggressive. :funny:

"We like this world a lot. We invested 15 years of our lives in it and a lot of money."

Witcher Dev "Will Think About" The Witcher 4, But Nothing Confirmed Yet

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is the last game in the series to star Geralt of Rivia, but it might not be the final game in the franchise overall. During CD Projekt Red's latest management meeting today, executives stressed that the series was conceived as a trilogy, so a fourth game in Geralt's story might not make sense. However, that doesn't mean more games in the series are ruled out.
"The Witcher was designed as a trilogy and a trilogy cannot have a fourth part, can it?" an executive said during a Q&A session that followed the results briefing. "We like this world a lot. We invested 15 years of our lives in it and a lot of money. So, we'll think about [making a fourth Witcher game]."
Some of CD Projekt Red's current projects include Gwent: The Witcher Card Game and Cyberpunk 2077. Additionally, the Polish studio is working on another AAA game.

The Witcher 3 was a critical and commercial success, so The Witcher 4 coming to market eventually seems likely, though it surely won't happen soon. In December 2015, CD Projekt Red CEO Adam Kicinski said it would be unfair to fans of the series not to make a fourth game.
Another CD Projekt Red boss, Marcin Iwinski, said previously that the Witcher series "deserves some rest," while the team shifts to Cyberpunk 2077. "The past 10 years the team has been working on swords and castles and medieval Slavic monsters. So I think it's time for some guns, androids, and some ammo," Iwinski said.
In other news about The Witcher, CD Projekt Red has announced that the franchise has now reached 25 million units sold across the trilogy.

You can go into the witcher 3 totally blind. The game does a good job of fully immersing you into the whole world and bring you up to speed on everything. There's lot of references to events in the previously established Witcher stories, but it sort of goes into great detail.

This is one of the best acted games I can remember with the strongest characters.

I knew nothing about the franchise prior to TW3, and yeah I'd say they do a pretty good job of catching players up to speed (for the most part). I recently read all the books and have started my second play though and it actually feels like a completely different game now. There are SO many call backs to the books and moments, places, and characters whose backstory and context from the books changes your view and appreciation. I highly recommended people read the books if they haven't already.

I actually stopped halfway through the game because I started reading the books, and I'm halfway through the last book. Once I'm done, I'll return to the game, but now I'm wondering if I should just restart it, because I'm sure I missed a lot of key moments/relationships when I went in blind.

I hope other fantasy books get the Witcher videogame treatment. Most of the books I read nowadays are fantasy books.

Haha, good to see at least one author who appreciates the boost the games gave his books.

Like Mass Effect 2 it has that rare talent of actually making you give a damn about video game characters and their fate. Not many games are that good at doing that, Bioware used to be pretty good as mentioned Mass Effect and maybe early Dragon Age games and Jade Empire back in the day.

Must finish the Witcher books sometime soon also.

Yes, I wish more games had character writing and voice acting of the standard of The Witcher and Mass Effect 2.

Since everyone is talking about ME2, the Suicide Mission is still the greatest moment in video game history for me. Everyone can die, and your success is measured by how much you've invested in the Normandy and how well you know your crew.

After helping them with their myriad of daddy issues (the overall narrative of ME2 was weak, but the character writing was the strongest probably in any game ever) you know your squad well enough to make it out with no one left behind. And that ending where everyone makes it out and the most rebellious and misanthropic members of the team looks on, nods, and salutes in approval as Shepard gets ready to for the next mission is perfect.

Makes you feel like you took a rag tag group of thugs, criminals, and mercenaries and turned them into soldiers/family.

Sigh... then ME3 comes along.

It is definitely one of the best ever. A situation where everyone or noone can die (with that getting take forward for the next game) and anything in between all dependent on how you have played the game up to and including that point. And all with characters you really care about. ME3 had great character resolutions throughout (like Thane & Mordin) but the ending should have used the lessons of why the suicide mission worked so well. Whoever is writing/acting out the characters in games like ME2 and Witcher need to get together onto one game and absolutely kill it!

Drew Karpyshyn, Patrick Weekes, and Mac Walters (when his head isn't up his own ass).

And ME3 YMMV. The Genophage arc had a good ending. Legion had a decent resolution, Mordin and Thane were great. Jack's was satisfactory, but she could've been on the squad. Miranda's was a terrible rehash of ME2. Jacob's was a slap in the face to his fans. Grunt could have been on the squad instead of Vega, but Freddy Prince Jr. made it work so he gets a pass. Samara like Miranda's was a rehash, but wasn't as devastating because unlike Miranda (who is probably the 4th most important character in this setting) Samara is an ancillary character. Javik was unnecessary, but amusing since he's the only one that calls Liara and the Asari on their bullisht. EDI was completely shoehorned because of Tricia Helfer. Like I spent two entire games killing killer robots. Making the hottest Cylon a voice actor is not going to make me care about them enough to commit galactic genocide.

ME3 was just one bad decision after another IMO. It's decent. But it could have been GREAT.

Do you know what these guys are up to now? Would be interesting to see how their future projects go.

Actually I agree pretty much with all of that. When I said 'throughout', I meant it as in that there are good endings spread out during the journey of the game, not that all of the endings are of that standard. For me it worked really well because the best endings happened to be for the characters I was very much into. The ones you mention at the beginning were great and we don't get that kind of resolution on most games or even your average film. But nothing compares to the intensity of the Suicide mission. If ME3 had originally finished with the Citadel DLC as its ending I think it would be remembered very differently as for many it seems like it was only the very ending that ruined the whole thing.

Drew is doing Star Wars Old Republic stuff or working on the new BioWare IP. Patrick Weekes is in charge of character writing for Dragon Age. Mac Walters was the lead designer of Andromeda (lol).

But that's you. Jack, Mordin, and Miranda were my favorite characters of the trilogy. 1/3 of those got a good ending. The other two were just there and Miranda was treated like trash. 99% of the fanbase was sure she'd be on the team and leading a Cerberus revolt. But Mac made the Blue Mary Sue head of intel with her stupid pet infodrone and had Miranda running around the galaxy looking for her sister... Again... while the apocalypse is happening. The second MVP of the Reaper War behind Shepard sits on the bench because she's looking for her sister... Again. It's soooo stupid.

Oh right so they're all at Bioware still at least.

Yes I was saying it was specific to me and agreeing with what you said about the other not so good endings. Miranda's was just bad yeah.

I have never been a big fan of the Suicide Mission. Its a fun idea, but the gameplay itself is weak and the boss is awful. The only thing you need to do to keep people alive is pass some arbitrary talking points, buy their upgrades and do their side missions. Sending the right people the right way also isn't difficult at all.

Now something like the Battle of Kaer Morhen or Mass Effect 2's Lair of the Shadow Broker. That is the really good "big" stuff imo.

Also Mass Effect 3 > Mass Effect 2. It really is a better version of the game.

Hahahahahahahahahahaha.....

Like, that all but confirms how terribad I find your taste in anything.

That's fine. I mean it isn't an actual argument, just trolling, but okay. It plays better in every way. I dislike the ending a lot. But having a conversation with Thane about his past does not make a game better then, actually playing some fun battles. And the mission structure of Mass Effect 3, along with the shooting, is much better. What you do with the Mass Effect 2 characters in their missions is like better, more integrated versions of their loyalty missions.

Mass Effect 2 is a really fun side story. Mass Effect 3 is actually the space opera, with better gameplay to back it up.

I'll take the episodic side story that stuck the landing and then some over the space opera that fell flat on it's face. If anything ME3 was a bad version of ME1 with good gameplay.

Even the crazy ass Indoctrination Theory was a better crafted ending than ME3's.

Its a game. I'll take the one that plays a lot better, has plenty of good writing, with better missions and structure.

I agree with DarthSkywalker about Mass Effect 3 being a better overall game then Mass Effect 2. A meh ending isn't going to invalidate a good 40-60 hours of a better game experience.

Count yourselves in the minority then. ME3 marked BW's turning point. Fans started jumping ship en masse and their reception and reputation has been getting more and more tepid by gamers and reviewers since.
