The "World of Heroes" DC RPG Season III

Haha... frozen Batcicle.

Ok... I guess I better help the dork out.

I get rid of the Robocop getup, and i'm just plane old Guy Gardner.

But, ya know, with a flame thrower that my ring has made.

I shoot it at the Bat, melting the ice around him. Once its weak enough, about two seconds later, it cracks, and he'l loose.

Now time for the frozen main course... Mr. Freeze.

The GL was chasing down the frozen Bats. But that was enough time to grab the second freezing pistol. Full blast on Sinestro. It wouldn't stop him, but certainly it would have enough effect as to free the large cannon currently commanded by Harley Quinn.

Pressure from below pushes me forward. It takes a moment to regain control. That is when I notice ice crawling up my legs. I shake my head.

With a thought, my forcefield heats up considerably. The ice melts away faster than it forms. I can survive the endless cold of space, and they think some ice will stop me? Pathetic.

"Siwwy Wabbit!" I taunt freeze.

I send a blast of energy from my ring.

"Sinestro's alread got a heart of ice," I continue. "What good would freezing him do?!"

These Green Lanterns were going to be difficult to say the least. He wasn't planning on winning this battle, but certainly there had to be some way around this problem.

The other one was still close to Batman by the edge of the water. Delaying tactics being what they were, a full powered blast from both guns was enough to encase them in an ice dome. With Sinestro pre-occupied, an escape into the depths of the prison would be enough to gather thoughts.

At least the now fearless inmates were willing to run outside when ordered. Cover is going to be important...

Lantern energy collides on ice.

There's a weird kind of explosion. Lots of shards fly out in all directions.

I raise my shield around me and Bat's to protect us.

When the shards and frosty air clear, Freeze is gone.

I frown.

I was gonna get me an ear too.

The Joker and Harley Quinn followed Mr. Freeze back into Stonegate. Freeze quickly created a wall of ice around the entrance. It wouldn't hold long, just time enough for them to get back down into the more highly-secured areas of the prison.

"Vic, you sure know how to make an entrance," The Joker cackled, "Meet up with Crane, and see what other little surprises you can launch on The Unity. Take harley here with you. I'll be right behind you."

The Joker turned back to the entrance. He ran his hand along the ice - it was beginning to melt already. They were trying to get in. The Joker could make out the distinctive form of Sinestro on the other side of the wall.

"I don't get it," The Joker shouted, just loud enough for Sinestro to hear through the barrier, "I know all about you. I'd have thought you would have understood the concept of means to an end better than anyone."

By the time I break free from the ice, Freeze is already gone. I stand next to Gardner and look around.

There. Either he went into the prison, or he made a big ice wall for kicks.

"Follow me," I growl, rushing towards the wall, taking one of the exploding Batarangs and throwing it into the ice. It breaks into a thousand pieces and droplets of water.

No Freeze, but Harley Quinn and The Joker. I think back to what the bastard did to Bludhaven, and the now frighteningly familiar urge to kill him is back. I can't do that, but I'll DEFINATELY knock out some teeth in that grin of his.

My ring licks at the ice wall keeping me out of the prison. It melts away under the heat. Soon, very soon.

I hear the Joker's words to me. I use my ring to focus my voice so only he can hear me.

I think back to all I've done and been trying to accomplish since coming back to this world. I smile.

"Oh, trust me. I do." I cryptically reply.

Before The Joker had a chance to reply to Sinestro, the ice wall exploded. The Joker found himself face-to-face with a very angry-looking Batman. Hell, when wasn't he angry?

"What are you doing here, Batsy?" The Joker asked, "Shouldn't you be out battling the real threat?"

No reply from Bucie. The Joker smiled mockingly when he realised why.

"Oh, now I get it! You've got your tights in a twist about what I did in Bludhaven! Oh no! I used my gas on that city with all thosee poor people! Boo-hoo-hoo! HA HA!"

The Joker's smile suddenly faded. He actually appeared quite serious, angry even.

"A simple 'thank you' would be nice. In all honesty, you should be on your knees, singing my praises. I'm doing your job for you! I wiped out a whole city full of Unified. Bludhaven was lost, Batman. There was practically nobody left that wasn't infected. Now that they are dead - I'll talk real slowly so you can understand, Bat-Boob - they are no longer a threat to Gotham City, our city. There was no other way to deal with Bludhaven. Unless you have a...miracle cure for The Unity tucked away in that fetching utility belt of yours."

The Joker paced closer to Batman.

"If anything, you're jealous because right now, I'm being a better hero than you! How's that for a hoot! HA HA! But all joking aside, Batsy, you need to think about where you stand. Do you want to stand here, debating our moral codes, or do you want to stop The Unity. Unlike you, I have the power - and the balls - to do it!"

Kyle smiled as he reached out with his own ring, covering the second half of the planet in the radiant green light. No entrance like a grand entrance.

"IN BLACKEST NIGHT...."

I descended upon Gotham City slowly...

"NO EVIL SHALL ESCAPE MY SIGHT..."

Freeze continued down the halls of the prison, his comrades in tow. He iced barriers at random intervals, and whenever they came to a junction, he made a wall in each direction just to confuse them. The Green Lanterns rings would likely be able to clue them in, but it wouldn't stop the ice from slowing them. He was smart enough to have assumed the prison was a bust as soon as Joker had given him his weapons back, so the box of hand grenades he procured from the armory before joining the roof battle were about to become handy...as well as the speedboat he made sure was parked in the motor pool.

Ironic. He was about to put forth great pains to melt some ice.

As he piled into the speedboat, making what woud appear to be a vain escape, he dropped grenades on the first two giant ice blocks floating in the water. In a flash, the had vaporized and the fear gas saturating each one was released into the air. Green Lanterns or no, if they hadn't had gas masks on already they were going to have a rude awakening...

He would blow the rest of the ice and get out of there as fast as possible.

I recognised the kid now; Stephen Sharpe IV. The second Gambler.

The Gambler had quite a legacy: Guy had unbelievable luck. Stuf just went his way. He was clever, and cautious, and he never spent a day in prison. He was the criminal archetype. He was an original; The Joker and the Royal Flush Gang actually stole the razor edged playing cards thing from him.

Dunno why this chump thinks he has what it takes to be like his dad.
But he's just as deadly, it seems. Sharpe III was an expert marksman. He never missed. Never.

But marksmanship isn't hereditary. Or, maybe it is: Look at Connor Hawke and the White Feather.

"Now."

From the air vent. Mahkent came through for us after all.

"Freeze, scumbags."

Clever, clever. One quick freeze later, and we were ready to go.

The ice finally completely melts infront of me. I make my way through the open door. Why did it take so long to melt that obstacle? I was not that distracted. No, I was. That's when I realize, too late, my problem. The battle and capture of Parasite. The fight with Gardner. Trying to save the prisoners. My ring is out of charge!

Just as I step in to see Batman confronting Joker, my forcefield gives out. I drop a few inches to the ground. It is then I notice a faint odor. A...gas? NO! I try to hold my breath, but I have taken some in the lungs. And everything...becomes...chaos!

Nothing makes sense. I can't breath. Everything looks...nonsensical...is that a word? My mind is tearing itself apart. My heart pounds. It's horrible. The pure chaos...I never knew I was so...afraid? no....no...No...NO!!!

I...WAS...A...GREEN...LANTERN!!! I had no FEAR! My will is indomitable!

I force my mind to relax. My heart to steady. Through sheer force of will, I force my fear aside. My mind begins to clear. The twisting stops. That is when I notice the light through the prison windows.

Is it...getting green in here?

I hate to say it, but in some twisted way, the Joker is making sense.

Bat's looks ready to kill him.

I thought i'd seen him mad. I've never seen him mad.

Sinestro looks to be spazzing out. Looks like his ring is out of juice. This is... well normally Sinestro having no power is a good thing, today i'm not so sure.

There's suddenly a green haze all around us. It's coming from outside the compound. I smile.

I can hear Sinestro's thoughts.

"Looks like the Guardians have sent some back up," I comment. "I was wonderin' when i'd get to annoy Jordan."

The Red X said:
X landed on the ground his caped draped over him and his fist tightened, Deathstroke had got away
"They always run when they know they are going to lose"

The streets were quite, everyone had left. X remained lerking in the shadows, waiting.

He stealthily entered a near by abandoned warehouse. He looked around and sat on a crumbling wooden crate . His hand reached to the back of his belt and it uncliped from around his waist. He placed it down on the crate and looked around once more "Home sweet, home sweet" his Computerized voice quietly whispered.

Kyle hovered over the prison. By now everyone would be aware of their presence.

"Let all who worship Evil's might beware my power..."

Kyle formed a giant hammer and swung. The wall came crashing in.

"Green Lanterns Light."

No one seemed to notice me, or at the very least they were unable to persue. All the ice blocks were blown as more and more opponents arrived.

Things were getting a little too hot for me. I have big plans, and none of them involve letting Batman take me back to Arkham. I knew I would run into him eventually, but I am out of fear toxin and no match for him and two Lanterns at this point.

No one has seen me yet; they are all distracted by the Joker and Mr. Freeze. I should be able to slip away relatively undetected. I stay in the shadows and move with silence as I make my way towards the exit. By now all the heroes were assembling on the roof of the prison and the sky was shinning a bright green. I saw two more Green Lanterns hovering over the prison. Smart move on my part to escape when I did.

I make my way down to the water where I have secretly hidden a row boat just incase something like this did happen. I untie the boat and shove it off into the water. I jump in and as quietly and quickly as I can, I start to row. When I reach the shore and I stay to the shadows making sure as to not be seen. I have to get to my lab to make more fear toxin. These heroes were lucky I was out of it this time, but soon they will all know what it truly means to be afraid…

The wall comes tumbling down. My shield covers me, Bats and Sinestro.

Big hammer.

Gotta be Kyle.

I look up, and there he is. Junior Lantern. And there's the other guy... Senile old Hal.

"Hey poozers," I yell up to the pair. "Might want to watch out for us other Superheroes down here."

Jordan looks at me with a raised eyebrow, Kyle with that chirpy, eager to please smile of his.

"Not that I couldn't deal with your mess-ups all day long,"

I smile. I love it when Green plan comes togeather.

"A Green Lantern reunion! A little family gathering, complete with the red-skinned stepchild. Isn't this precious!"

The Joker fumbled through his pockets, eventually producing a cheap-looking plastic ring.

"Can I be in the club?" he asked, "I have a power-ring...that I got out of a cereal-box."

They all stared at him.

"What? Not even a chuckle? Well, I know a clique when I see one. I'll leave you boys to it. Bye bye now! HA HA!"

The Joker turned to leave.

Earlier:
As Kara drifted near death and Kal flew her to the fortress, memories and flashes burned through Kara's unconscious.
She remembered landing on Earth. Not once but twice. Once in a field near Smallville. Once in the harbor near Gotham.

She remembered her parents, Alura and Zor-El and her home of Argo City.

She remembered witnessing the destruction of her planet. Not once, but twice. Once in a rocket on a chunk of the dieing planet. Once in her home under the Dome of Argo City.

She remembered being given her costume. Once sewn by her own mother using their family crest so her cousin would know her. Once by her "Aunt" after she had proven her worth.

She remembered living on an island, but also growing up in an orphanage.

She remembered the names Fred and Edna Danvers. They seemed that they meant something to her.

She remembered picking the name Linda Lee for herself, not once but twice.

She remembered fighting villains for years that had not yet come.

She remembered fighting alongside the Legion of Superheroes one thousand years in the future.

She remembered... Querl and how he had loved her.

The most prominent memories to appear though, were of two fights.

She remembered sacrificing herself for her cousin, and her hero, not once but... twice? She foggily recalled fighting in some wierd place where her powers didn't work to their fullest, and destroying something that was threatening... everything? She remembered the last words she ever spoke to Kal.

"C'mon Kara. Don't give up. Pl..Please... Stay with us.

"I... I can't. B... but it's okay... I knew what I was doing... I wanted... you to be safe... You mean so much to me... So much to the world."

"Y-you succeeded in destroying the machines."

"Thank Heaven... the worlds... have a chance to live. Y-you're crying... Please don't. You taught me to be brave.. and I was... I... I love you so much for what you are. For how... good you are......"

But they weren't her last words were they? She remembered dieing. But she didn't did she? Was she dead?

As these... memories? Is that really what they were? As they flashed through her mind a name came to her. One she had often heard in passing but someone she had yet to meet. Donna. Donna Troy. Maybe she could help figure this out.

Time had passed and the salve that Diana had applied began to work, the bruises and cuts began to heal and Kara drifted back out of her dream world. As she opened her eyes she recognized her surroundings. The first part of her life on Earth had been spent here. Had it though? Or had it been spent in Midvale Orphanage? She was in the Fortress. She saw her cousin. He wasn't wearing the black sacrilige he had been.

After doing routine maintenance on the Jet, I turn to my monitors to check in on Clark.

"Kal? Is it really you? Did I do it?"

Thank Zeus.

I race to the infirmary. I see Kara's still form still on the bed, but she is stirring. I must give Io a big kiss when I see her next. And my apologies.

"Kara. You're alright. Let the balm complete it's work. The crystals of the Fortress of Solitude should be directing solar energy into your Kryptonian physiology. You'll be back to normal in no time."

I look over at Superman.

"Kal is right here. Now tell me. Did you do what?"

Did I save the universe?

"Did I get Kal back? Did I save the world's greatest hero from himself?"

But I DID save the universe. I remember saving the un... wait, no. Multiverse?

"Diana, when this Unity Crisis is over, I need you to take me to Donna. For some reason I feel I need to talk to her."

"Of course we'll go see Donna. She's still in New Kronus, I believe. As for Clark. Ask him yourself."

I turn to Clark.
