The "World of Heroes" DC RPG Season III

"Wait! We have to stop at the Flash Museum."

I look at the elder Flash.

"Why?"

"The Cosmic Treadmill. It's the only thing I know of that can generate a sustained Speedforce Field. With a few modifications we may be able to use it to generate a substantive field to weaken the Unity. Or at least remove the influence of the Unity's field from the rest of the globe."

"If we take the Treadmill to the Fortress of Solitude, we may be able to project a low frequency Speedforce Field from the Pole to the rest of the planet. The Unity would be unable to replicate and maintain it's control over the populace."

"But it will take alot more power than I can muster. I will need some help. At least one more speedster. Possibly two."

I stop the Jet over the Museum. It's still in shambles from some earlier encounter, but hopefully Garrick can find the Treadmill.

"Just get the Treadmill. We'll take it to the Fortress and see where we can go from there."

Jay heads for the loading bay.

"I'll locate it and then you haul it up."

He streaks out of the Jet. Moments later I see his comm blinking on my monitor. I hover the Jet above the coordinate and set it on autopilot.

"Here it is. I think I can help you if we---"

The Lasso of Truth wraps around the Treadmill and I haul it up to the loading bay with little difficulty.

"Or you could do that. I've got to say, they sure do feed you girls right on that island of yours. Let's go."

I smile and jump into the pilot's seat.

Next stop. The Fortress of Solitude.

Sharpe would not be denied. The smoke obscured his vision, yes. But he knew that there were four targets behind that smoke, he was bound to hit one of them.

Knives. three of them. Same hand, all at once. Mahkent got nailed in the shoulder and leg. I wanted to stop. To patch up Cameron and Jack. But there wasn't time. We would have to come back for Chance, if he wasn't already dead.

The Psycho Pirate. Buddy Baker told me himself that the Psycho Pirate was dead. He disappeared into thin air, you don't just come back from that.
Terrible times are coming. This is a sign. It's like the opposite of Elijah coming back. Terrible times are coming. We have to be careful. We have to be strong. Buddy told me some other stuff, but I can't really remember it. At all, really. Although we had escaped the Psycho-Pirate for now, he would most certainly come for us again.

We got to him. Escaping the dangers of Savage's ersatz Injustice Society, only to be met with a much greater evil.

Finally. The room was huge. It seemed to make up the bulk of the base. Circular, with a large man sitting in a large chair(which he likely regarded as a throne) in the centre of the room. The Octopus. The Man himself. More than likely, a dummy.

He spoke. His voice was loud and commanding.

"Ah. Company. I asume you've come to stop me again, Danny? You always were predictable. But this is very different. Joining forces with convicted criminials? Why, Danny, I am very disappointed in you. I can see that I'm winning already. There's no escaping me. You know that. I can die, it matters none. Dozens are poised to take my place. Do what you will. I will call off my 'dogs,' if you will; But I am not going peacefully."

I removed the knives from Mahkent. He'll be alright... Mahkent saw an opening. He grabbed the knives, and hurled them a our antagonist. The Octopus, it is said, is extremely durable, moreso than his advanced age and weight would lead one to believe.

Rumours abound as to the source of his powers. It is said that he is the original Metahuman. Or, that he was empowered by Oggar or Hades, or any other malevolent God or sorceror. It is said that the Endless have turned a blind eye toward his actions, or that he is the Prodigal Endless himself.
One thing, and only one thing was certain about the Octopus: He must be stopped.

"I don't think that will work. This telepath, Saturn Girl, is surely powerful, but, as Batman can confirm, the Unity's power is immense. If she's compromised and taken by the Unity, Saturn Girl could potentially 'unify' people just by looking at them. Not exactly the best case scenario."

Clark interrupts my mantra, but it keeps me focused on something else.

"True, but it's possible she can trace the Unity's location, so we could at least fight it head-on."

"Well how 'bout that!" I punch the air as I say with glee, "Guy Gardner comes up with a way to track the unity!"

Batman looks as if he's about to speak when i pre-empt him.

"With a little help from everyone else,"

"I need to get to Metropolis."

The group all turned to face The Joker, still handcuffed, lingering on the edges of the group.

"I...I forgot," he stammered, "How could I be so dumb! This...this isn't funny. The...ah, heh heh, The Scarecrow added a fail-safe...to the Venom Bomb. Batsy here may have taken the detonator, but I also have a trigger in my other pocket, that I have to press once every hour. If I...heh heh...fail to press the button, a 5 hour countdown is initiated on the Venom-Bomb. I last pressed the button 1 hour and 7 minutes ago. Heh heh HA HA HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!"

The Joker's laugh died into a whimper. He could see he had their attention now. Taking a deep breath, he continued.

"The countdown has begun. The only way to stop the Venom-Bomb now is to enter the access code into the keypad attached to the bomb itself. The access code that nobody in this group other than me knows. Someone has to take me to Metropolis so I can key it in. Now that we have another solution to The Unity problem, why wipe out the whole city in one swoop? That would leave less people to torment and murder individually! HA HA!"

The Joker looked around at the group, before locking his eyes on Batman.

"Of course, most of you have important matters to deal with. Stopping The Unity and all that. So I'd say only one of you needs to come. I volunteer Batman. He knows me better than anyone else, after all. Whaddya say, Batsy?"

I turn to Bruce, "I'm going to try and find Wally, he's an integral part of a plan Diana, Kara, and myself have formulated. I can drop the two of you off on my way there."

I should have known that Joker would have planned something like this. Good God, my head feels like it's wrapped in cotton, ripping and shifting.

I think back...it feels like days, weeks, since this business with Unity started. It feels as though I can't make it through the rest of this...

No. Rest later, either when Unity is defeated or when I'm finally laid into the grave. I got myself involved, and I'm going to get my-and-everyone-else out.

"I'm going to try and find Wally, he's an integral part of a plan Diana, Kara, and myself have formulated. I can drop the two of you off on my way there."

I grab Joker by the chain connecting his handcuffs. Wait. That won't work so well. He might drop while Clark is flying. Not that he doesn't deserve it, but we'll need him until this is over with. The arm, that'll do for now. My other hand reaches for Clark.

"Right. Tell me about this plan you have."

I listen to the Joker's rant. Please, give us some credit. That is quite convenient a story. He spends so much time and effort preparing for the city's destruction, and now he wants to save it? Why?

I grab Batman by the shoulder and count myself lucky I am not attacked at the touch. And he should count himself lucky he does not attack me. "Do not trust the madman," I doubt he would in any case, but it needs to be said. "Why this change of heart? Now, instead of killing off the unified, he wants to save them for future torture? Possible, but unlikely. There is something he is hiding."

I look at the Joker. "Let me pull the information from his mind. I'll find the code and disarm the bomb myself. Maybe I'll even take the time to sort out some of the chaos running through his brain. Let me eliminate your worst enemy, the man who killed uncounted in Bludhaven. That must sound appealing."

"Sinestro, I've fought this madman for over a decade. If I've learned one thing about him, it's this--when it comes to death and mayhem, espically the type he's responcible for, he always tells the truth."

Then his second part registers. Can he honestly change the Joker's psyche? Maybe if he can...

No. No matter how much the bastard needs to be clensed of his insanity, I can't go this far to do so. It's worse than death--a violation, a rape of the mind.

Although, if he can get inside the Joker's mind, there might be some use...

"Don't try to cure him, but, if you can find out the location of his bomb and the codes nessesary to disarm it, we can just lock him up so that he won't be a problem."

"Because that's worked precisely how many times in the past?!"

Batman stares at me. Hard.

"Look, i'm in a better position that most of you to say this, maybe the best thing for this guy is a mind cleanse."

“Red X will infiltrate the resistance in Gotham and learn of their plans and report back to me”.

"You want me to head into to Gotham, into their stronghold. You got to be kidding me, if they found out I was working for you…. I’m no idiot, this isn't worth it said x sternly.

"Then how do I make it worth it"

“You can't give me what I want” he walked away from unity and began to look for an exit.

"I can bring back the ones you have lost back"answer unity. X stopped sharply and fell silent.

"You can do that?"replied X seriously.

"Yes"

"You better not be lying to me" X paused for a moment "then I’m in, send to the resistance"

"Very well" replied the unity. And in a flash of blue light he was gone.

"Hellooooooooooo! I'm right here!"

The Joker once again stepped forward, trying to attract the attention of the heroes.

"Do you realise that Black Mask, The Riddler and Two-Face are out there right now, fighting The Unity? You have three non-powered nutjobs actually trying to stop this thing while you so-called superheroes stand here, whining like old women, about what you should do to me."

That had shut them up. He may not have superpowers, but he was going to let his voice be heard. His plan depended on it.

"Are you leaving it up to the craziest man on the planet to think rationally? HA HA! That's hilarious! I have a very powerful weapon in Metropolis. And Rhubarb-Head's right, I do have an ulterior motive for wanting to disarm it. I don't want to waste such an ingenious weapon. Yes, it could wipe out Metropolis, but not The Unity. I'd rather save the weapon, and use it in a way that is going to really hit The Unity where it hurts."

The Joker grinned deviously. He wondered what was going on in their feeble minds right now.

"And that will be me doing my bit to save the world. No way am i going to let you do-gooders get all the glory. HA HA!"

"So all those murders you commited, count for nothing?" X stood atop the near by building
and then jumped down to the ground with the others

IC: Batgirl

The wind is cold and hard against my face as I race through the rain washed streets of Gotham. Not the most subtle entrance into the world of vigilantism.Much more blaring and in-your-face than my very first rounds in this costume but desperate times call for desperate measures.

I take my eyes off the road and look at the electronic map of Gotham displayed in front of me on the mini screen. This has baffled me more than anything tonight. The tiny green dot labeled 'Batman' is in the Gotham Penintentary. Not surprising in the least had this been all the map projected at me. But congregated next to him are also little dots representing Clark and Kyle, Hal and even Freeze and Joker of all people. I'm thinking this screams immediate attention. But now I can't help but feel a bit un certain about my decision to rush here. I mean, why would the JLA need the assistence of a vigilante who is very much new to these things once again. Hell, I'm not even sure I still know how to aim the grapple hook properly.

I brush my hair slapping against my face out of the way as the building looms suddenly into view. And with a surprisingly thumping heart I realise there is the congregation of the superheroes and villans. The vibrant blue and red of Clark's costume stands out. But something that catches my widened eyes even more is the purple suit clad evil monster of a man that Bruce is holding.

A red and black blurred suddenly streaks out of no where and stands in front of the group. Followed instantly by my bike comming to a stop a bit away from him.

"Well, since I've lost count of how many people I've killed," replied The Joker to the new arrival, "Then yes, you could say they do count for nothing. HA HA! I made a pun!"

While The Joker laughed, he never took his eyes off this newcomer. He seemed pretty small, and he had a young-sounding voice.

"It's not quite Halloween yet, Junior," he cackled, "So it's unwise to dress up and try playing with the grown-ups. You do realise you just jumped into a room with Superman. You're outnumbered by some of the most powerful people on Earth. Hell, even I could probably take you! HA HA! In fact, if I wasn't handcuffed, I'd have b!tch-slapped you by now."

The Joker gave Batman a mocking sideways glance as he continued.

"Or, I could just smack you across the skull with a crowbar, like i did to the last snivelling kid who got in my way. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!"

Your plan may yet hold merrit, but for now, we must play to our advantages. Red X and Garth Ranzz; the last time that the resistance fighters saw the both of you, you were allied with them. They are not aware of your current allegiance to me. I can give both of you a degree of mental shielding to protect this secret from Imra Ardeen - Saturn Girl.

The Unity could feel Garth's discomfort with that particular issue.

I understand your emotional conflict in this matter, Garth Ranzz, but it is a necessary factor. She will understand why you had to keep this secret from her when she finally joins us. And she will thank you.

Rudy rolled his eyes at this mushy crap. "Cut the mushy crap. Why don't I just take buddy's place?" Rudy said as he jerked his thumb towards Sparky, indicating him. "I can take 'em all by surprise when the time's right."
Garth did not appreciate the Parasite’s comments that included taking his place and taking out Imra. Despite being alone and, consequently, out of his league against the Parasite, Garth straightened himself and looked the purple behemoth dead in his inhuman eyes.
“You will not lay a hand on her”, he said firmly and in a much colder tone than what someone would imagine Garth would be capable of.

Spike_x1 said:
No, Raymond Jones. For now, you will stay here with me. It has come to my attention that there is a glaring flaw in your biology that must be remedied immediately, before I can allow myself to assign you to another mission.

Rudy slumped backwards into a chair with a huff.

For now, Garth and Red X are to infiltrate the resistance and learn of their plans, which will be broadcast back to myself. This is a crucial time for us, but I remain confident. Afterall, the rebellion are up against an entire world of my soldiers. It is only a matter of time before they fall.
Part of Garth was relieved that he wouldn’t have to physically fight the Parasite to keep him from killing Imra, but he did not let that part show. He just stood his ground and, eventually, took his eyes off of the Parasite and went back to paying attention to the Unity.

"Well as long as i get paid, I don't matter how we do it." Answered X.

Garth let it all sink in before asking, “So, you want me just to go undercover then? Both Imra and the Question saw me vanish. Imra’s probably tried psi-scanning for me already and will know that I’ve been off planet. I suppose I could always say that you took me and offered me a job working for you, but I turned you down. That would work.”

Garth raised his new arm into the air, “Course, there’d be the problem with this. If I turned you down, then I wouldn’t have this nice, new arm.”

Putting the arm back to his side, Garth asked the Unity, “You got any way that I can mask it? Make it look like it’s still my messed up, mechanical arm?”

"Man... You really are a nut Joker," I look at him. "Everyone knows you're the pansiest of the Bat's rouges... Hell, even Penguin is tougher than you laughing boy."

The Joker stops laughing. He looks really pissed. Good.

"I mean, you probably don't even got the brains of the Riddler!"

I laugh.

"You're code's probably just your birthday or something ******ed like that!"

I chuckle a while longer then I look at him.

"But you killed a city of innocents little laughing Bobo," I turn harsh in the tone fo my voice. "And that does not compute with me,"

My ring constructs a large bat and hand, and starts pounding.

"So if the Bat doesn't want to beat the truth out of you," I smile wickedly. "I sure has hell ain't got a problem doing a man's job for him!"

You handcuffed, defenseless" X put blades razor-sharp centre point to the joker’s throat, "or me hold a blade to your throat?"

He suddenly withdrew the weapon back to his belt, "but this isn't about you and me is it" X tilted his head to the left slightly “it’s about saving the world" said X teasingly.

I could beat him up any day of the week, and I have beaten up both The Scarecrow and Two-Face in the past. And then there's Robin..."

The Joker smiled. Ah, nostalgic memories. Then he remembered the situation he was in.

"And Blue-Boy, instead of getting your panties in a twist over little old me, maybe you should think about the prepubescent ninja that's just dived into the room and held a knife to my throat. Or were you too busy checking out my ass to notice him?"

This ring... It's making me calmer I guess. Not sure if I like it. I really want to punch his face in.

"And the teenage mutant ninja squirt over here?" I point at the new comer. "Well i've fought fear demons. Been apointed by the Guardians of the Universe itself to take on genocide you would cream your pants for."

I crack my knuckles.

I consider making a crack about how he would feel is someone changed his mind to become less of an ass, but we have more important things to worry about.

I notice the kid now with us. I remember reading something of him in the files...Red-something...Red X. That's it. I'm not sure what his involvement is, but...

Wait. I notice someone a bit behind him. Bat-themed...red hair...it couldn't be...

"Barbara?"

"...And then there's Robin..."

I catch the last bit of Joker's sentence. That does it.

The Joker suddenly spins towards the ground from my fist. I hear him groan and curse. Everyone else looks at me.

He mentioned Jason. The bastard doesn't even deserve to speak his name.

"Boom!" I let out a high pitched yelp. "And he's down!"

I clap sarcastically. "Well done Bat's... that gets us all the answers that we need don't it!"

He turns. He's pissed at the Robin comment Joker made.

"Ok, before you decide to go Captain Hits-a-Lot on me, think about it this way..."

I walk over and stand above the Joker, looking down on the bastard.

"This guy killed someone you loved, that sucks, really, my heart bleeds," This isn't pissing him off any less. "But the S.O.B. is also the only guy who has a code to stop the CITY of Metropolis blowing up,"

He's still looking like he's going to throw a punch my way.

"One kid who shouldn't have died. A city that's going to die if we don't stop thinking with our vendetta's and focussing on our goal,"

I get off the bike and walk towards the group. The heels of my boots are echoing a bit too loudly I think. I've become an object of scrutiny. Everyone has their eyes on me as if not being able believe the sight before them. I clench my fists and continue walking in silence. Bruce has just punched Joker but I could see his eyes resting on me behind those glowing slits of his. Its times like this that I wish I had incorporated lenses of the sort into this mask of mine.

Joker's groans echo into the night as I stand in front of Batman. Regarding him from behind this mask like I haven't for so long. I feel the need to explain, and find myself at the loss for words. Everyone else becoming an audience to this scene doesn't help the awkwardness of this in the least. I raise my eyebrows at him in which I hope isn't too uncertain a manner, "So...I figured it was about time..."

Everyone else becoming an audience to this scene doesn't help the awkwardness of this in the least. I raise my eyebrows at him in which I hope isn't too uncertain a manner, "So...I figured it was about time..."

"Its like a God dam family reunion" muttered X under his breath.

The bickering starts before I could let Bruce in on the "plan" we've devised involving the Flashes, and then he lashes out at the Joker. Can't blame him for that, but still time is of the essence.

"Batman, I need to begin my search for the Flash, if you want me to drop you and this piece of human garbage off in Metropolis, we'd better get going."
