Alright, P-Man I appreciate the trust.
*breathes deeply..no pressure..no pressure...*
Alright, I am more than willing to listen to your story idea, from what I've gathered you'd like make Dr. Fate a new person, one who's never been seen in the DCU before, correct?
That is the issue isn't it?
To an extent a certain amount of creative license is needed to evolve the RPG. This evolution propels it forward, not just in the gameplay it's self but also in the actual story telling. I totally agree with that, however as gamemaster I have to look past my own ideas and take into account what the players have expressed without going to drastic measures to decide.
This RPG was started with the purpose to be a place to create stories for mainstream DC Comics, over time the rules have changed as have the ideas, but weve always kept the arcs and the characterizations in the RPG as close to the source as we could while still moving forward. What we are feeling now is the extreme growing pains of an RPG that has not changed and shifted as much as the comics it was based off of have. Many people are trying to stretch their wings within it, without hindering other players characters or ideas, that have not yet reached the level of wanting drastic changes.
The majority of the players keep their characters very close to the source from which they come or had come from, not very many changes have been made. For the few who did want change and the ability to play around with alternative ideas the One Universe RPG, The Ultimate DC RPG and the Multiverse RPG were created to satiate the desires of those few ready to take a leap into new character development.
On a personal level, I am more than willing to consider it further and perhaps even approve it, given the very negative feedback it has received. However, because of the large amount of backlash the idea has received I do not think that at this time its conducive to stretch the RPG farther along in its continuing evolution by going the route of self-created characters taking center stage or taking on the mantle of an already established character.
This is not only a upholding of the rules weve all inherited from the beginning of this RPG, but also a reflection of the present mentality of the players within the RPG. This RPG is simply not ready for that leap yet, it is not yet treated as its own DC Comics continuity, merely it is treated as an almost completely enclosed extension of the DC Comics universe. A gifting of the present characters within the present DCU, nothing more and nothing less. In the future I truly hope we can move the storytelling of the RPG along and perhaps seperately from the DC Comics Universe it was based on.
This is not meant to constrain you as at this present time I have, of my own, a player-created character I am using as a plot device. However she will not be taking on the mantle of any established character, nor will she be a primary character, rather just an NPC. The line is this; no player-created characters may be allowed as primary characters, merely as supporting cast and plot devices. If at any time concern is expressed over a particular player created it will be reviewed then and a decision will be made, if it involves a GM, the decision will naturally be decided by the other GMs with no favoritism or selectism will shown.
Purple Man I hope for you I have made the right decision and explained myself. If not feel free to ask questions. I really hope I make some sort of sense since it's late and I'm rather tired.
For everyone else Id like to consider this matter closed. No comments please towards Purple Man about the matter.
