The "World of Heroes" DC RPG Season V Signup/OOC Thread

Yea, and like the villains' crimes would echo the ones from that time period. Like Joker robbing that museum with the really huge instruments and such.

Man, I made Hal Jordan cool... try reading up on the past posts... I gave his ring personality, I made him fall in love, I made him powerful and a team leader... and I still kept that asskickin spunk...

Nothing against you, BNK. I'm just not a fan of Hal is all. :o

I got around to thinking...wouldn't it be interesting if there was an RPG where it was based on the Golden and Silver ages? Like, you had to go off from those continuities, and you had to write like they were written back then? With the "POW" and the "BAM" and like with Robin's one liner's "Holy guacamole Batman!".

Just came to thought when was looking at some New Frontier stuff. I really think it would be interesting.

That's actually not that bad of an idea. It could be really fun, aswell as challenging in some respects. I've recently been reading some of the earlier Batman stories in reprints from the 30's... I'd, admittedly, love to play that era's gun-toting, criminal killing, policeman beating Batman. :o

If I weren't absolutely positive that people would shoot it down because of there apparentally being too many RPG's, I'd be all for it. :csad:

I was leaning more towards the 50s and somewhat 60s era. Not the anti-hero type of Batman from the 30s. :(

It would be more of a comedic and very interesting RPG. It would be more challenging and I think would be very interesting for someone playing a villain. You would have to be campy and stuff.

I'd probably have a seizure from playing that one. :wow:

Well, I had this idea where I'd interview some of the posters who play these RPGs to get an inside view on where they're coming from, and also to just get to know them better.

I call it...

Inside the Poster's Studio
with Superferret

My first "guest" is Master Bruce. Since joining the RPGs in Mid '04, as Nightwing in Season II of the DC RPG, he's gone on to play characters ranging from Daredevil to Superman. I spoke with him earlier today.

Superferret: Okay, I think it’d be good to start off on the topic of LibrarianThorne’s departure from the RPGs and the Hype as a whole. Now, it was assumed that at the beginning of next season in the DC RPG, LT would be taking the role of Superman back from you, but with him gone, that won’t happen. How did you feel about that turn of events?

Master Bruce: I felt that it was unfortunate that he left for the reasons he did. However, I can sympathize. Sometimes none of us realize how daunting real life can be and how hard it is to maintain the activities we enjoy, such as RPGing. So as much as I did hate to see him leave, I can understand him leaving in the first place.

SF: But you also seemed to be kinda 'stuck' with Clark.

MB: Well, it isn't necessarily the worst thing in the world to have Superman as a character. I've been a big fan of Clark since I was a kid, so for me to be 'stuck' with him isn't nearly as troublesome as it would've been with almost any other character.

SF: True, true. (BTW I'm not just doing this to plug my return as Superman when I take him next season.)

MB: (I know.)

SF:You’ve taken on a few characters after another poster did a stellar job with them, namely Superman (from LT) and Spider-Man (from ElectroFlare). Were you ever worried that you wouldn’t be able to fill the roles as well?

MB: Almost every time, actually. Starting with when I took over the role of Daredevil from MST3K_4ever. I knew that I was following some rather stellar roleplayers, so of course there was some worry. But I tried my best to put the worry behind me, because the truth was, I was playing the characters before the players that portrayed them.

SF: "Playing the characters before the players that portrayed them." What do you mean by that?

MB: There are a multitude of interpretations that a character can lend itself too. Some prefer certain aspects of a character, some prefer others. While I enjoyed reading the interpretations presented by the players before me, I had my own interpretation to present. That's what kept me from dropping the characters, usually.

SF: Okay, good. Here’s one of two questions I plan to ask everyone I interview: Of all the characters you’ve played which is your favorite?

MB: Batman. Easily.

SF: Well, duh. But, for sake of discussion, why?

MB: Simply because with him, above all characters I play, I have the most confidence that I can portray him as accurately as I possibly can, because of my knowledge of the character.

I think, also, he presents a level of challenge I don't find with other characters, in that while he's faced with superhuman opposition and threats on an almost nightly basis, he himself is below that league, physically. So you have to be constantly on your toes, thinking of all the possible ways that a human being can overcome a superhuman obstacle.

SF: So you like playing Bruce because of the challenge?

MB: Essentially. Because along with those elements, there are certain mannerisms (or in his case, lack thereof) that you have to maintain. You can't laugh, you can't chuckle, you can't cry... you have to be in a constant state of brooding, while maintaining the intelligence that makes him a superhero. This guy's really traumatized, and you have to show that.

SF: Interesting. Now for a slight change of pace. I know that you’re dying to get a chance to play Batman in the DC RPG. Let’s talk hypothetically, if you did somehow get that role, what would happen to Nightwing? Would you still play him, or would you drop him?

MB: I would drop him, for two reasons. One, Batman is a major character in the DCU, and thus I'd want to focus all of my attention towards staying active and entertaining with the character. And two, I personally feel it wouldn't be fair to play both of them at the same time, considering how closely related they are and how big of a fanbase each one has.

SF: So, you prefer playing Batman over Nightwing?

MB: Yes.

SF: Okay, moving on to the Marvel U for a moment, you've been given a lot of tough stuff to work with as Daredevil, what with Keyser's excellent portrayal of Bullseye being an ever present threat, Loki giving Matt his sight back, and defending Wolverine in court. How does playing him stack up with Batman?

MB: I think Matt's interesting to play because he could actually be considered closer to the 'abyss' than Bruce. He's lost most of the people he loves, whereas Batman still has Robin, Nightwing, Catwoman, and others to back him up when he's going through a rough patch. Matt doesn't have those... at least the one I play. So he's a little angrier at the world, rather than the criminals that terrorize it

SF: With all those dark, brooding characters, it's kind of odd that you can also capture light-hearted characters like Spider-Man just as well.

MB: I know. That's kind of an odd thing for me. But I think that's the fun of playing in an RPG... you're opening yourself to so many different possible outlooks on a world that's so fantastical. Spider-Man deals with his grief differently than Batman and Daredevil. He cracks jokes, and makes the best of his life.

SF: Cracking jokes in the face of tragedy is Spidey's best quality. I've got to say that my favorite Spider-Man post of yours is the one where he's in the graveyard with the undead remains of the people he loved and lost.

MB: That was a challenging one to write, I have to admit. You don't know how exactly to play it at first. There are so many different paths you can take, but you don't know which ones will necessarily work better than others. I could've had Peter break down and go insane in that one moment, because that is a really unimaginably devastating situation. But that's usually when the thought process of a character kicks in. You start to realize "This isn't what he'd do. He'd do this!". And then your mind really goes to work. I love it.

SF: Okay, well, we'll finish up here, but one last question (and this will be another that I'll ask everyone), if you could play any character you haven't had the chance to yet, who would it be?

MB: Hmm. Tough question. I think I'd have to say that it'd be an interesting change of pace to portray Wonder Woman, or any female in general.

SF: Wonder Woman? So not only do you want the distinction of being the first to play all of the most popular male superheroes in the RPGs (Supes, Bats, and Spidey), you also want the Trinity too? You selfish bastard.

MB: I know. I really am. It's what makes me... er... me, I guess.

He really is, folks, he really is.

Haha, good stuff... anyway, I'll have another post up by tonight... i'll get back into the game after a short hiatus...

Excellent read. It was a good interview by both parties I think.

I love the idea, SF. Can't wait to see who's up next, though I know I'd like to see what's inside Soze's head.

That's the fourth time someone suggested Soze.

Keyser, looks like you're up next. Once I get some questions together.

When you are interviewing him, be sure to give him a hard time about dropping Black Adam. :oldrazz:

I would definately be interested--I'd love to play the campy Adam West Batman, and if someone snatches that up (I'm looking at YOU, MB.), I'd maybe take the original Question--a hard-ass objectivist. :woot:

Oh, don't worry. If it were the 60's era as opposed to the 30's era, you can have him. I wouldn't do quite as good with it as opposed to the dark, brooding Bruce. :o If the RPG were to happen, I'd probably try my hand at Barry Allen, or Hal Jordan.

Hell, maybe I'd even join your West's Batman as Ward's Robin. :D

"Holy hectic twist of fate, Batman!"

It's funny, 'cause I said that as a joke, but the more I think about it, I think I have a good idea on playing the West Batman in a way that is faithful, deep, while delivering a new twist to it. :o

...SF didn't ask MB's favorite swear word. >.<

Sorry for being gone..I'm hip high in Finals month..and WAY being in assignments.

Hey, I didn't want to step on anyone’s toes, so I figured I ask first: Does anyone have any plans with The Rogues most noticeably Captain Cold?

Well, depending on how much longer this season'll keep up, the Lightning War might take place this season or next season...

also:

Jay needs to meet up with Wally for a place to stay...

Flash family picnic?

Hey Rogues, you wanna fight Wally sometime soon? Or some interaction at all?

any other heroes wanna team up?

You should talk to JB. He's got something planned called the Rogues War, sounds intresting and it needs some more PC'd Rogues.

BNK, I don't suppose Wally would be interested in helping out Diana, would he? Sometime soon? She's going to be duking it out with Hermes, and I figure it could be cool to have the Flash show 'im who really has the fleetest foot... ;)

GSG, Trusty, I'm confused about where this thing goes next... :~(

What?! You forgot the master plan?! The master plan we...discussed?!

EDIT: Check your PMs. How convenient. The ideas I had in store just finally came back to me. :D :O

Well, the Rogues are a bit pre-occupied with some inner conflict at the moment.
But, when the **** hits the fan at the end, by all means jump into the fray. After all, Wally and the other Flashes would want to protect the innocents caught in the middle.

Also, if you want, we might be able to make the Lightning War and the Rogues War intermingle a bit.
