The "World of Heroes" DC RPG Season V Signup/OOC Thread

DC RPG Season V Application

Screen Name:
wiegeabo

Character you would like to play:
Sinestro

Powers:
Former member of the Green Lantern Corps. that now using a yellow ring of Qward for his own purposes. Like a Lantern ring, it can create constructs based on the will of the wearer. Unlike Lantern rings, the constructs are yellow, and the ring is charged by Lantern energy.

Group your character is aligned with (if applicable):
Justice League of America (Probationary)

Three reasons why you have chosen that character:

1)
I've always been a fan of the Lanterns.

2)
When I learned Sinestro was free, I took him in Season III to take him into a new direction. Bringing him to Earth to relearn how to be a hero and restore Order rather than Chaos.

3)
I have big plans for Sinestro this season. Very big.

Write two complete sentences using proper English grammar explaining what you plan to do with the character you've chosen (i.e. What are your goals? Will you be doing anything different with the character than is usually seen?):
In this season, Sinestro will continue to grow and learn. And by the end of the season, he will finally realize his new goal, to become the hero that can bring order to the universe.

How many times do you intend on posting a DAY IN the RPG:
As many as I can manage and are necessary, but usually at least once or twice a day.

Color and font you plan on using for your characters speech (Might not be applicable but it makes the roster pretty):
"This is how I speak." And this is how I think.

Do you have an Instant Messenger? Which one, and what is your screen name?
MSN (prefered), AIM, YIM. Same screen name.

How did you find out about this game, Recruitment thread/word of post/seeing the RPG OOC/IC thread?
Two seasons of playing Sinestro. Originally from Johnny Blaze.

Please provide a small sample post with original content in the style that you plan to write your character in:

It has been several weeks since the sacrifice. Many weeks I have traveled this world. After Superman fell, there was a period of relative peace, as if the entire world was taking a long moment of silence. The peace did not last long, but it was enjoyable.

During my travels I helped out where I could. But these last few weeks I found myself spending most of my time in two places: Star City and Metropolis. After the endless night in Gotham I has spent a month helping Star fight the crime that had nearly ripped it apart. Lieutenant Mitchelson and I work well together, and stopped many crimes and gangs. And my presence in Star, then and now, aggrivated Green Arrow to no end. And I must admit, although I am unsure why, it is almost as much fun to anger the Arrow as it was to anger Jordan.

But right now, I am not in Star City. I am flying over Metropolis, his home. Many heroes have been working in this city at various times to make up for his loss. And we have actually done a fair job of it. Today alone I stopped a bank robbery, a terrorist missle attack at the airport, and saved some catlike creature that had escaped from the zoo.

And now, I felt it was time to pay a visit to someone I had been avoiding. I fly up the side of the building to the proper window and tap on it. I hear a ruffle inside and the curtain flings open. The expression on the woman's face is a combination of surprise, happiness, and hope. Upon seeing me, it instantly turns into sadness, with a hidden strength behind it.

I wonder why...oh, she thought I was him.

"I am sorry to disturb you, Mrs. Kent."

"No, no, that's ok. Heroes have been coming to see me ever since..."

"They wish to honor your husband, and you, as do I."

"How did you..."
she says with a look of concern.

"It was not difficult to determine his true identity. The other members of the League called him Clark. And I read about Clark Kents 'death' during the battle. Besides, I have the entire Justice League computer database in my ring."

That last remark makes her smile. "You're...Sinestro, right? Used to be a Lantern? Used to be a villain?"

"Yes, I am, and I was. But I have changed. I am a member of the Justice League now. Probationary, as the Lanterns continue to remind me."

"I see. Would you like to come in?"

"No, thank you. I just wanted to..."

"What is that?" she says, looking at my arm.

I look down at the gold armband with the outline of an 'S' on it. I have been wearing since it happened and had forgotten it was there, I had become so used to willing it into existence. "I understand it is a tradition many humans subscribe to. I felt it fitting, and since I cannot make it black..."

She has tears in her eyes. "It is a lovely gesture."

I nod. "I came to thank you, and thank him through you. He gave me an opportunity to prove myself when others would not. He saved my life and had faith in me. I could not let that go without saying how much it meant."

"Thank you for saying so. I know he'd appreciate it, because I do."

I nod again. "You are welcome. Now, I must go. Good-bye Mrs. Kent."

"Good-bye, Sinestro."

I leave and fly into the heart of his city...

Hey, after spending what feels like an hour updating the roster, you tend to get bored... :o

"ISN'T Shaq... thank god...."

But I am bald, and seven feet tall, and black

...And... I'm just short enough to get my ass handed to you. :o

I think a brain dead cat is a better actor than Shaq daddy (BTW: I loved Steel when I was nine, when I hit ten I seen the sad truth.)

OK, I do this for the Avengers over in the Marvel RPG, so here's the JLA from the first roster report (Not very good, but I did it in 5 minutes)

Lotta green and...not much else....now accepting applications

Dude...really use a flattering image of Dinah not the "Look at my Chesty" one.

I like the way Kyle is in the center. :D

But seriously, might wanna put Kyle and Hal on opposite sides for symetry.

Purple Man
Please pay close attention and read everything.

This was my Ruling which I posted last week in the Season IV OOC thread:

From what you've told me you are in essence 'creating' a character to play from their POV.

That is the issue isn't it?
To an extent a certain amount of creative license is needed to evolve the RPG. This evolution propels it forward, not just in the gameplay it's self but also in the actual story telling. I totally agree with that, however as gamemaster I have to look past my own ideas and take into account what the players have expressed without going to drastic measures to decide.

This RPG was started with the purpose to be a place to create stories for mainstream DC Comics, over time the ‘rules’ have changed as have the ideas, but we’ve always kept the arcs and the characterizations in the RPG as close to the source as we could while still moving forward. What we are feeling now is the extreme growing pains of an RPG that has not changed and shifted as much as the comics it was based off of. Many people are trying to stretch their wings within it, without hindering other players characters or ideas that have not yet reached the level of wanting drastic changes.

The majority of the players keep their characters very close to the source from which they come or had come not very many changes were made. For the few who did want change and the ability to play around with alternative ideas the One Universe RPG, The Ultimate DC RPG and the Multiverse RPG were created to satiate the desires of those few ready to take a leap into new character development.

On a personal level, I am more than willing to consider it further and perhaps even approve it, given the very negative feedback it has received. However, because of the large amount of backlash the idea has received I do not think that at this time it’s not conducive to stretch the RPG farther along in its continuing evolution by going the route of self-created characters taking center stage or taking on the mantle of an already established character.

This is not only a upholding of the ‘rules’ we’ve all inherited from the beginning of this RPG, but also a reflection of the present mentality of the players within the RPG. This RPG is simply not ready for that leap yet, it is not yet treated as it’s own DC Comics continuity, merely it is treated as an almost completely enclosed extension of the DC Comics universe. A gifting of the present characters within the present DCU, nothing more and nothing less. In the future I truly hope we can move

This is not meant to constrain you as at this present time I have, of my own, a player-created character I am using as a plot device. However she will not be taking on the mantle of any established character, nor will she be a primary character, rather just an NPC. The line is this; no player-created characters may be allowed as primary characters, merely as supporting cast and plot devices. If at any time concern is expressed over a particular player created it will be reviewed then and a decision will be made, if it involves a GM, the decision will naturally be decided by the other GM’s with no favoritism showed.

Purple Man I hope for you I have made the right decision and explained myself. If not feel free to ask questions. For everyone else I’d like to consider this matter closed. No comments please towards Purple Man about the matter.

________

The following is what I have decided on tonight, with the knowledge of what SF has done.

Many of the players in this game are unhappy with your undying need to constantly push and bend the rules. Without voting I generally listen to the majority and go with what they say. I treat this RPG more as an informal democracy than anything esel because it was almost literally created by the players. This said, it's come to my attention that SuperFerret was accepted as Jonn, however his posts will be from a fourth person point of view from a character he created.

I will allow your story to go through with the following provisions, please pay attention.
If you do NOT accept them as they stand you will NOT be allowed to do the arc.

Should I or any of the other GM's at any point feel as if you are going to far, and changing the in game universe to much, we will ask you to pull back on your story.

1. The emphisis will be on Hector. I know you'll have to change your arc to fit this but it fits with what we're allowing SF to do. Since we are allowing something similar to SF you will follow the pattern he has set down. Make the emphisis on Hector as the main character with your character being nothing more than a plot point. Once the arc you have planned is over your character will cease to exist in gam and will NOT be allowed to resurface at any point.

2. You will keep your arc isolated from the rest of the arcs in the RPG.

3. You will not draw in un-neccesary NPC. By this I mean none. If you want some you'll have to ask us first.

4. The GM's hold the power at any point to comment on your arc and ask you to change it if they feel it's effecting the RPG. However, to prevent prejudice, it must be agreed on by two AGM's and be brought to myself before we come to you.

We are keeping you on a short leash because of the delicate nature of this idea of yours. I do not want to cause a riot within the players. So please follow the provisions.

Just to note, not all of them will be in that style, in fact they will be a rarity, it's just that J'onn's shapechanging is easier told from an outside POV, and I hate writing in third person, but most of J'onn's posts will be in first person. As will all of Orin's.

I'm sorry but once the line is crossed we can't put regulations on it. Unless we say "You only get 5 4th person posts per season."

Is that what ya'll want?

We'll allow it but it has to be on our terms. I know it's unfair to ask that but this is the first time for pushing the envelope so much and I'd rather if the other players didn't start typing 'Foul' every other post in the OOC.

I'm just covering my own ass here, Twy. I personally like Purp's idea, and think it'd be great to add new life to this RPG, but others don't and I don't want it on my head.

My ass is to cute to be covered.

*moons him*

:oldrazz: :cwink:

In light of the new rules I will be playing Hal Jordan as seen from Ron Marz' perspective. I will be breaking the 4th wall and writing it from a 4th person perspective.

I will be constantly criticizing other players writing in post. And I'm thinking of doing a sort of "Waiting for Godot" style of absurdism.

You know, since the rules are out the window and all...

Gimmie a kiss, Twy. I'm just yankin' your chain. :p

:gl: :gl: :gl:

Twy, and Ferret. You rock! Thank you for all your support.

It's open minds like yours that I stick around.

I noticed I got mostly negative feedback. But that's ok. I'm glad that my idea is so radical that the sticklers abhore it. I'm not interested in writing standard super hero fare. I want to do something different. Something that will make you think beyond this rpg.

In the most heterosexual way possible, my Dr.Fate story arc is like a love letter to Grant Morrison. I know it's a risque thing to say, but his views and beliefs have really changed my life. His books are beyond the standard super hero fare.

The negative responses have actually helped a lot. There will be more emphasis on Hector Hall, and I've figured out a way to do it. He will be running paralell to the Dr.Fate story in a place I can only call 'In Between'.

Thank you all for the feedback. Bad or good I appreciate the comments. I'm just glad that my ideas bring out some sort of response from people.
